Starfield xbox series Gameplay leaked

It's as I feared, the planets are divided into separate cells, and not seamless. I'm not gonna lie, not being able to hop into a vehicle and freely explore a whole planet is a bummer. This probably means there won't be any underwater vehicles either. I've been looking forward to encounter creepy alien aquatic lifeforms. Hopefully that's something mods can fix.

So anyways... what did we learn today?

this was so obvious from the gameplay they showed and knowing the limits of the engine. It was always going to be a bunch of predetermined spaces. Come on guys, you seriously didn't believe the PR speak fuck, you have too look thrown thier BS sometimes.

You quoted me, but did you take the time to watch the video at the given timestamp? The player makes his own landing point...again, he doesn't use it, but it is possible. The walking around the planet part I specifically mentioned that I don't know if they implemented it, just that it is technically possible

Completely agree. I was wondering why we haven't seen the player using vehicles on planet. I'm still excited, but if this is true, my hype is deflated quite a bit.
Read my other comment 2 above yours. The thing about caves and the loot sounds lit and gets me excited again

You could walk the entire planet on No Mans Sky, at launch.

Just saying.

And to what end?

No man's sky planets are caricatures in size and yet still so boring and tedious. Elite dangerous to scale planet would literally take a decade or more of your life to walk around one.

Sucks that the maps aren't stitched together for Starfield, but in the end, doesn't mean fuck all for gameplay.

Why is it odd? You cant use the boostpack unless you dump a skill point into it, so I don't see why you would just be able to pickpocket if you don't have the aptitude for it. So invest a skillpoint in pickpock :)
If you are unable to enter stealth or pickpocket anyone (which is what it sounds like) without investing in it, that would be entire different to any of the games they have ever made and 99% of players will not expect that.

In the end, being better at those things is what you invest in, not being locked out of them entirely until you do.

So after reading all the leaked material I'm 99% sure this is how planet exploration works.

- Each planet has certain parameters that the engine follows when you land on it. For example this planet is supposed to be brown and rocky with these creatures, these facilities, these caves, etc. (Now that we have more info, this matches with what Todd Howard said when they released the last Direct video showcase. That the planet generates points of interest around where you land.)

- when you pick any spot you want to land on that planet the game procedurally generates matching terrain and drops those items, creatures, facilities etc into that square of terrain.

- when you leave the planet and pick a new spot to land, even if it's right at the edge of the previous boundary you hit, the game just procedurally generates new terrain that won't match up with the area that you just left. Essentially this makes the whole idea of exploring a planet a lie. The planets are simply "gateways" to that planets predetermined map-type.

- Basically each planet has one map that is procedurally generated every time you land. This makes where you land completely pointless and, honestly, a marketing gimmick.

One caveat to this is that planets might have different biomes, like forest, desert, etc. The planet knows which biome is supposed to generate based on where you click to land. And then just follows the formula listed above.

Very disappointing.

Bc I feel like it's never been something you were required to have as a skill to do in okd games. Am I wrong?

In my post above I explained why it doesn't appear that they're divided into cells. There is basically one "map" per planet that randomly generates terrain based on that planet parameters. Every time you go to the planet it's just generates the same size square map with the same points of interest but with different procedural terrain.

Each planet is basically just one square map with that planets creatures, enemies, etc and procedurally generated terrain.

Getting disappointed at your own conjecture is quite the thing.
I don't think there's any info out there that says the only interesting things on any planet would be restricted to the first area you land on any planet. Or that landing in another zone that overlaps where you previously landed completely wipes the previously generated stuff.

Or that every planet has just one map. Or even where you land being 'pointless'. Continents, elevation, climate etc will likely be visible from space and will influence how the maps looks like where you land.
There's certainly going to be a lot of procedurally generated stuff, but I don't think it's as limited or disposable as you make it seem.

But we'll see.

Pretty sure this is bullshit. They've shown the same area with the same terrain with different fixtures/points of interest on separate loads. The terrain is likely fixed but the "stuff" in it is different.

And why would you do that lol? There's absolutely nothing of interest on the planets in NMS. Explore an entire planet once and you might as well stop playing the game since there's pretty much nothing left for you to do.

What. The leakers literally say the terrain matches up. fucking lmao.

The planets also have multiple biomes, and are the same for everyone except the points of interest.

It's literally the exact opposite of what you're saying. Each planet has specific points of interests. Like bandit camps, caves, outposts, etc. The train is procedure really generated every time you land but the points of interest stay the same regardless of where you land.

Todd literally says this in the presentation when they released the latest Direct.

Also, the person who leaked the screenshot showing the map boundary answered questions. He said that even when he landed right next to where he just was, the terrain didn't match up.

That means every time you land the terrain is randomly generated. It's not a seamless planet.

Look I'm just as excited as anyone for this game, Skyrim is my favorite game of all time and Morrowind is my second favorite. But I'm not going to sit here and just pretend that the game is going to work the way that I wish it would when I have some facts that show that it may not.

The leaker literally says the terrain doesn't match up...

You have no idea what you're talking about and are making yourself look really uninformed.

We already know this is false.

Read the last line. LOL he made it all up.

Cool that you fell for it though.

If you do some actual digging you can find comments from the person that posted the Chinese language screenshots. And those he States specifically that the terrain does NOT match up when re-landing.

I read that after you already visit a location you dont even need your ship to travel between planets (in one system) . You can just fast travel from this location in this planet to another location(known) from another planet .

So you say it's 4Chan and that's reason to not believe it, then acknowledge that everything the person said, they admitted to making up. And yet you're still choosing to believe it.

Allllllrighty then...

Show me where another leaker has said the terrain does not match up. Go on, I'll wait.

Thanks for your patience.

Go to the link on the previous page that has all the screenshots from the person who found the boundary limitation. Someone translated it to English, but you can also just translate the page to English yourself using Chrome.

Here is what the person said:

I can confirm that the boundary of the landing point exists. I also tried a bunch of drop points to see if they connected into one big area, but that's not the case.

______

Like I said, I hope this person is wrong, and I hope I'm wrong. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Seems unlikely. But very, very lame if it's true.

Like No Man's Sky did it for real, with twelve people, the better part of a decade ago. On base PS4.

Its bethesda so its understandable , they havent even invented door without loading .

Yea, door in this game still have a load screen , npc still suddenly disappear infront of the door .

The game still gonna be fun , I still gonna throw like 500 hours into it , but pls keep your expectations in check .

My expectation at this point is a Skyrim/Fallout space reskin. Because Fallout really is mostly an Elder Scrolls skin. Pickpocket in a space game, LOL.

I'll play it, but feeling really no hype.

No Mans Sky doesnt have quests, fully interactable NPC's with their own schedules, factions, hundreds of interesting POI's, complete player agency during missions, companions, fully living breathing cities.

Jesus christ. This isnt a space sim, its a fucking Bethesda RPG.

My thoughts on the early leaks are that I will probably focus more on the story and quests in this game than I will exploring planets. I do not see a lot of reasons (so far) for me to explore landing zones outside of the points of interest. I hope I am wrong because I love exploration in games. The good news for me is the NMS update makes me itch to go back to it for a space exploration game so I have it to fall back on.

Its amazing how everyone tries so hard to find the smallest nonsense to talk shit about the game. Keep doing it, meanwhile millions of players will enjoy playing it. My god gamers are something. Expecting the same shit when spider man 2 drops this fall

I get that, but I put so many hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 that I'm just looking for what differentiates it from those games, especially Skyrim, which itself has an incredible sense of exploration.

If space is just a setting here, and I'm constantly aware of the "seams," that's going to be a big disappointment.

I can't understand how some could be bothered because you can't explore the entire planet walking. To me is a lot worse that you still have to see a load screen when you enter a building, that's annoying since you visit the cities, but who mentally sane would explore an entire procedurally generated planet just to see rocks for hours.

It's just that it would give someone who likes it a sense of scale. The feeling of the virtual place being some kind of 'real'. Its hard for me to explain...and I wandered for hours over planets in No Man's Sky, just to look at the terrain its generating. That's very interesting to me. Its gotten a lot worse over the years because they changed the generation to accomodate different vehicles. Vanilla terrain generation was sometimes so alien and weird, you would have no use for a rover or a bike.
You can call me insane for that, that I like things others find boring, I mean I get weird looks for reading books at work all the time in my lunch break...but then again they look at me funny when I bring my switch and play No Man's Sky, Diablo 2 etc.
I too would love for BGS games to have no loading screens, but if I could chose, I would take seamless planet exploration over no loading screens every time. And I think that's fine that others or even most disagree with me. I can't understand most of the people around me, but I almost always understand why they are how they are :pie_thinking:
