Definitely sounds like their tastes run similar. Gamersgate has Dawn of Discovery so that might just be the ticket. Heck, the game looks interesting to me too.

If I'm not too late, Impulse has Dawn of Discovery Gold for $6.something. I picked it up. I'm at work, so can't confirm if it's still on sale.

Is that Steamworks?

Edit; It appears not. It's Anno 1404 elsewhere right? No Steamworks as per Wikipedia. Dang.

No it's just Pimpbaa. He's not very bright and thinks that anime = pedostuff.
Just ignore him.
Oh...wow, really? He must have some strange, idiotic connection in his mind where hentai = anime or something. I was wondering where he got that from.

No as far as I know.

Also Just Cause 2 is $5 at Direct2Drive.

Edit: Pandora, after verifying files restart Steam. That worked for me the few times it happened.

Lead character a child with a short/mini skirt and an even younger looking fairy with a bare midriff and a top that only a pedophile would want on a child. I know there is far worse than this, but it doesn't make it acceptable.

** Looks at Pimpbaa's tag **

Oh, you were hoping for half naked dudes.........

Hmm. I can't access Civ V page in Green Man Gaming? I want to gift the game.

If you have already bought the game from them you can't gift it. But they are working on a Gifting and wishlist system.

So I finally got around to beating Assassin's Creed 1

Bought From Dust. Anybody who is waiting for a price-cut is part of the problem.

No... people like you, that pays full price for draconian DRM are the problem. Just like the people that bitch about online passes for console games bitch, then happily throw there money at said games. Instead they should be letting the publishers know with their wallet that this shit is unacceptable.

I'll pick it up when it's 50% off, which probably won't be to long of a wait.

3rd-party DRM: Ubisoft Online Service

HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO ACCESS THIS VIDEO GAME AND ONLINE FEATURES AND TO PLAY ONLINE. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONE OR MORE SPECIFIC ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://www.fromdustgame.com/

I haven't played much of AC2.

also why are all the cars from Dirt 1 so far so fucking floaty?

What do I have to change to make it so the cars don't spin out at the slightest touch of the stick? So far it sucks shit (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Pretty sure it hasn't even been confirmed to have an always on DRM scheme. Last tidbit from Ubi was "It does not." Whatever that means.

In any case, I see no reason to punish the developers of the game just to spite the publisher. The game is great and unique enough to justify the $15. If it was $60, I would definitely give it pause.

Also it's a bit hypocritical to pick it up at 50% off sometime down the line, imo. Either stick by your principals or not, but don't use it as an excuse to be a cheap scumbag.

After doing more reading on it, it seems it just requires an account through Ubisoft and an Internet connection at start up to verify the game is legit. I guess that's not too bad.

I hardly think buying a game at 50% off instead of at release makes one a "cheap scumbag". o_O I buy games at full price at release if I'm very interested and/or want to reward the publisher. Buying on sale seems reasonable to me if you're sort of interested but don't want to support the publisher as much, but that's probably a stupid parallel for me to draw since for all I know, the publisher gets the same amount of money.

I have a $10 limit on DRM infested pc games I buy on Steam. Though, I have unfortunately broken that rule once or twice because of circumstance beyond my control. Picked up DS2 at 14.99 during summer sale because I dunno what my connection will be like during Christmas sale, since I'm moving to the middle of nowhere in Sept.

I have no issues buying DRM infested games, as long as it's basically rental prices, which DRM turns these games into.

Yes, Steam is technically DRM, and it's the only one I find even remotely acceptable, I'd rather be DRM free, but that isn't realistic.'

As for being a cheap scumbag, I buy Steamworks games that I'm interested in, day one. *shrug* Support the people that deserve to be supported.

In his case, it does. But not in general, no. Although From Dust sports some amazing production values and quality to come in at just $15.

There is a learning curve that comes with driving rally cars. Recent Dirt's have made it easier, but 1 is quite easy as well.

I find it very hard, it took me two tries to even beat the first race, much less the time attack which sent me all over the road.

I was hoping the handling of the cars would have been more like Splitsecond :|

Wait, you are mad over two tries to beat a race? And why would Rally Cars control like super cars in a ridiculous arcade racer?

Kinda disappointed there isn't more discussion about EYE in this or what's become the official thread. I've stumbled across one brief impression and every other post is about organizing a 4pack.

It's honestly kind of hard to get into. You have to sit down and devote a good chunk of time to it in the beginning if you want to get anything out of it at all. I haven't had a whole lot of time to check it out, or I'd be everywhere spraying my praise (or disapproval).

So far, I like it. It's rough around the edges, but I like it.

Edit: The above impressions compared it to "Deus Ex, but with coop and built in the HL2 engine." I wouldn't disagree with that.

Why does it make him a scumbag? He chooses to pay less for games with obnoxious DRM (though From Dust may not have the always-on DRM). Exactly what about that is unreasonable?

From Dust looks pretty, but I'm really still a bit uncertain what kind of game it is. It appears to be a terraforming god-sim kind of game.

Dirt 2 seems to have better car control but lol I can't even beat the first race. Where hte fuck is my emergency break? Why are the cars so slippery? This isn't fun.

So far I think I like Dirt 3 the best, but I haven't played any of them enough to give a definitive judgement.

From Dust looks interesting but as usual Ubisoft's DRM is incredibad. I can totally understand waiting on a significant decrease in price before buying a game because it uses an awful client or terrible DRM. The dollar amount is immaterial, it's that Ubisoft negatively impacts the experience of legitimate customers with 'solutions' like this.

if they patch the DRM out at a later date, I would willingly pay full price for the game.

I can see why people would be pumped for From Dust, Another World and Heart of Darkness are both wonderful, and we haven't really had any god games in a while, but it looks quite different. More in line with a traditional puzzle game in a complicated analog skin. I've heard it can be very frustrating, and quite often because of the failings of the game, not your performance.

If I didn't have a ton to play, I'd probably be getting it full price, but I can wait. EYE looks much more interesting, I'm more tempted by that right now.

From what Ubisoft has been saying, they think the DLC is a massive success. Can't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

I take it you meant DRM.

And if it's not going anywhere, then my purchase of their games will continue to be at bargain basement prices or after they've stripped that shit out of their games.

That's on the store page right now.

That already happens with Steam, no reason to authenticate with outside sources.

But it doesn't use Steamworks. I mean, I understand not liking always on DRM, but authenticating upon first launch isn't NEARLY as bad as some people make it out to be. But no, let's get on the "I hate Ubi" train. It's good for moral.

Usability limits on the things you 'own' is always a bad thing.
Only if it realistically impacts you, otherwise it just appears like making a stand for the sake of doing so. They said it reduced piracy for AC2, it works, and it seems like a pretty small inconvenience to me.

What's so bad about the 'always online' DRM? Are people just against the principle?

Ubisofts DRM servers aren't always up and running, so even though you may be playing a single player game, you might not simply be able to play because of a problem on their end. It's not like Steam where you can continue to play even if you lose your connection to the internet for whatever reason, but with Ubisoft's always on DRM, the hammer comes down and you can't play your game.

So in the middle of a mission in Assassin's Creed for example, what happens if the server dies?
