I can tell I'm going to rage about this once From Dust installs. After a basic look-over of the game directories, there's no simple .ini for basic things like textures, post-processing, looking not-like-shit, etc.

Never got the appeal of GSB. It's just making up scenarios, isn't it?

Making up scenarios? What?

There are 3 modes:

1. Mission Mode: You play through a series of scripted missions. You need to design your fleet to win each one.
2. Online Challenge: You get to try and defeat fleets created by people online.
3. Campaign (expansion only): A fairly simplistic 4x game wrapped around the fleet battles.

Oh, alright, thanks.

You know in games like Advance Wars and Flotilla where you can set up a battle and then watch it unfold/play it? I thought it was just that.

Thata makes me so sad :(

It is. But there's a fair amount of meat there in that you design your own ships with parts you unlock and set their behaviors and deploy them according to budgets and other restrictions.

HAHA HOLY CRAP

100$ in Australia

smh
The game is Steamworks, so never ever buy it from the Aussie steam store because you can buy it cheaper from elsewhere. I noticed a lot of the games that use Steamworks price gouge Australia, like Bethesda games, Deus Ex: HR, CoD etc. So I thank them for using steamworks and allowing me to circumvent their prices so easily :D

I love the little I've played of Eschalon, and I'm always up for more new retro style games, so I am very interested in getting Avadon. No time to devote to it however, perfect candidate to wait for a sale and save a few bucks.

Well, I know this probably doesn't matter to most, but at $9, it practically is on sale already (ignoring the 10% bit). The game was previously only sold for $25 on the developer's website.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Pretty awesome that MW3 is going to have dedicated servers. Hooray for competition.

yeah, that was the sticking point for me.

it went from, 'i dunno if i'll buy' ...to, 'i'll pre order this sometime soon'.

Yeah, I know, saw that in the Avadon thread, but still, if I'm not going to play it yet, I might as well wait and save a few bucks :)

But at 9 bucks anyway, I'll probably just cave and get it regardless.

Modern Warfare 3's ridiculously in your face and OTT splash advert very nearly got me on "WOAAA IMPULSE" when I opened Steam just now.. until I saw the price.

From Dust impressions -

Barely any settings

Really shitty controls

Screen tearing

Locked at 30 FPS

Fucking Ubisoft

locked @ 30fps sounds crappy, but the screen tearing should be fixable by forcing vsync in your video card control panel, or by using D3Doverrider.

regarding shit controls ...maybe its one of those games that really recommends an xbox pad (hello console port?).

Very sad to hear the From Dust complaints, I really expected big things from the PC version. I was going to be waiting for a sale, just because my backlog is obscene, but I hope they sort their shit out soon.

I'll wait for the inevitable D2D deal to pick it up at a discount.

I can deal with technical limitations, but having to make a Uplay account and launching From Dust from Ubisofts own bullshit client is where I regret not buying on the Xbox instead.
Urgh.

edit:
uhm, guys, it says "60" on the "refresh rate" variable? Did that patch already happen?
edit2: nope. fraps says 30. How fitting. :')

I didn't even notice it, to be honest. It's not really the type of game that has to be 60fps for me. I guess it would look a little more vibrant, but it's not worth worrying about. Game is fun. Sometimes you just gotta turn fraps off and enjoy yourself.

It's been kind of panned for having shitty controls on the 360. People were putting hope in the PC version controlling better. Guess UBI just decided to take the shitty 360 controls, and have the mouse emulate the analog stick. That always controls so well.

Gonna have to readjust my "Will wait for 5 bucks" downward. Maybe AMD will have a free giveaway one day.

Just loaded it up and played a few missions and this is pretty much my experience, except I had no noticeable screen tearing.

There's no screen tearing if you force it through your drivers or use d3d overrider.

Didn't notice From Dust had the crap DRM on it, so I'm glad I clicked to see that negative recommendation and noticed that. Yet another Ubi game I want but won't buy.

Basically, but I'm loving the game itself so I still hope it does well in sales.

I'm glad i didn't preorder From Dust too!

I just spent some time playing the Bastion demo, i fucking loved it!

Need to buy this game, the price is a little steep for me atm. I want the soundtrack too. :(

Bastion still doesn't work properly for me, the animation is all choppy and some of the backgrounds have weird artifacts :( definitely not a video card issue, every other game seems to be running fine.
