There are so many Warhammer items and I have no idea what is what.

Any suggestions for someone who wants to try out the Warhammer series for the first time?
Forget all the DLC items exist. As far as I'm aware, they're all cosmetic, and just for the latest expansion, Retribution.

I never really got into it, but the little I remember playing of the original Dawn of War series was a traditional style RTS (base building, resource management, etc.)

The Dawn of War 2 games rid all the base building and resource management, and focus solely on moving 2-4 squads on a series of missions that basically boil down to killing everything in sight, with leveling up, acquiring new skills and equipping your squads with loot. It also has 2 player co-op, where each player controls 2 squads.

If the latter interests you more, starting off with the original Dawn of War 2 would suffice for someone just starting with the series.

there's a demo of dawn of war ii btw, i just tried and it was pretty fun.

i think i'll pass for now and wait for steam christmas sales, too much on my plate atm, though it looks rather fun, and maybe there will be a version with all the DLC.

dawn of war ii is also GFWL, fyi. just saying because i know some people refuse to have GFWL games on their steam accounts.

Probably a long shot, but I recently bought the Day of the Tentacle CD version. Through Google I saw that in order to play it I needed to run it through ScummVM. I can run it that way no problem, but I would like to add a shortcut to run the game from Steam as a non-Steam game.

I have Lure of the Temptress which also runs through ScummVM from GoG.com that I added on Steam through a command line I found online, but using that same method, I can't get DOTT to run.

Does anyone know how I can run DOTT through ScummVM as a non-steam game shortcut?
There's a really good post on how to make individual game shortcuts for Scumm VM on the telltale forums (here)

So once the game is set up for scumm vm: for steam just make a shortcut to the scummvm .exe a normal. Then add the scumm vm ID after the file location in the target box in steam options.
Then rename the shortcut and you're done!

Also works for websites!
I launch quake live through this method so I can respond to steam chat and organise games :]

Just to confirm that Red Orchestra bought from the Get Games deal can indeed be activated through Steam. I just did.
And I can still confirm that the code they sent me does not work, so buyer beware!

*Waits 2 to 3 business days for a reply from Get Games*

So what's the consensus on Metro 2033 for those who've played it? I wanted to buy it during the Summer Sale, but I don't think it ever went on sale so I didn't get it. Is it worth $20?

It was $5 yesterday dude. It goes on sale pretty often, I'd wait.

You could also look for it at a cheaper prices in stores. Game is steamworks.

It was definitely worth the 5 bucks I spent on it yesterday

Oh, here is something we should keep an eye out on. The change in the languages:
jhtqc7.png

This should give an idea if Dota 2 is in fact bringing people over from China or not.

I just installed MotionInJoy to enable my PS3 controller to emulate a Xbox 360 controller for next week when Deus Ex 3 (2) hits. So after installing everthing and clicking "enable" and then configuring the gamepad in the options of Windows it seems everything works perfectly. Is there anything else I have to consider or will it work now right off the bat when I start Deus Ex?

Is that language people use in the client? I don't know how big the population of China is that can speak English, but I know alot of (Dutch) people that run the client in English.

I don't think I'll ever truly understand how DOTA 2 works. I tried watching a youtube of it recently, and now I know how the elderly feel when they watch their grandkids play videogames.

Yeah, I think so. I believe steam defaults to the Operating System language.

Just play a couple of games of something DOTA-like which is F2P. Once you get an idea of the mechanics, e-sports matches of stuff like DOTA and Starcraft are incredible to watch.

i remember playing this game with my buddies (when it was known as Three Corridors) and we had helluva fun :D

"Bastion" seems to be doing well for itself up there. That's good to see. The game really is one incredibly solid package.

I would probably grab it, but for some reason it requires at least 512MB of VRAM, which is odd considering the other system requirements are low and it's an XBLA title as well.

Maybe I'll just get it on XBLA since I'm probably not going to be able to build a PC until near the end of the year. Anyone have it on both platforms?

LOL cause it's so true.

You should be good to go from now on.

Did you try the demo? I have 256MB VRAM and it runs perfectly fine here so full game should be good too.

I've played way too much League of Legends in the last month or so, up to level 22 now, and I tried watching some of the DOTA 2 tourney. I hardly knew what was going on either. =P

There is one issue, for most games you wont notice it.

The L2 and R2 triggers have a pretty big dead-zone when you start to slowly press them down, they probably go from 15-100% but you lose the initial light touches.

For example in Alpha Protocol when you are lock-picking you have to line up pins in the lock, but if the pins are too close to the bottom the dead zone won't allow you to get near there it just jumps up.

This is the only game I've had an issue like this in it, but it may be something to consider if you are required to do delicate things in DE3

Heh, yeah. This was extremely annoying. :/

I really think this is Steam taking a dump on the other sites that sell the game cheaper with a steam key or something

i mean 8 ITEMS, fucking EIGHT

It's too bad I don't play TF2, and I'm not sure how to haggle TF2 items for games

Well, that at least makes up a little bit for missing the retail Deus Ex HR mission by preordering the digital deluxe edition on Steam.

I currently can't launch ANY games at all on Steam, at least not TF2 and the others I tried. I restarted Steam and I just get a message saying the game is unavailable no matter what. Anyone else?

Well steam has blocked me again from buying anything. Was gonna buy bastion since hoping for a refund for from dust. But support won't most likely get back to me for a week or so.

If it's using client language information then it isn't close to be accurate.

eight items.... :|

Seems like they try and give away more items the more expensive the game is (Such as Total War: Shogun 2, which had a similar amount of items). Was waiting to preorder since Gamestop screwed me over by sending my severance package paperwork late. Guess that worked out :D
