Another interesting bit:

RAGE: Like already mentioned RAGE will be released on three DVDs on the Xbox 360 but only one Blu-ray on the PS3 due to the nature of a much bigger medium. On how many DVDs will the PC-Version ship or are there plans to release it on Blu-ray?
It will probably also ship on three DVDs on the PC.

So Steam download will most likely be at least 27GB.

Ouch. Doesn't bode well for the Linux version, which was always a "we'll get to it later if we have time!" kind of affair.

What the fuck.

Wow, if that's the explanation, then that's fucked up. It sounds great in theory if the game is continually updated, but there will come a point when it won't recognize the hardware and stick you on low settings... causing the player to have to go through inis (presumably) to fix that. And most people won't know about that.

Hopefully they change their minds and make something more traditional.

Awesome to hear about Bastion so soon on Steam, but I didn't get it on 360 because I figured I could wait till later, maybe for a winter sale price, but dang, it's there so soon... perhaps I'll bite.

If it's like any other version of Id tech, it will have an easily accessible INI.

I'm prolly just gonna hold off on buying it though in case they do release the insane textures that Carmack teased they would. I'd rather play the game the first time the best possible way.

They shit canned the OS X version, lame.

And I don't believe Sony wouldn't allow cross platform play.

EDIT:

Ummm

What the fuck.
Wait, wait, wait, so the game decides your settings for you and you can't configure at all?

That's going to suck. What if I don't like the settings the game chooses for me? :X

Hopefully we can edit it via other means outside the game.

It's clearly not like any other idTech version.

If the game is deciding for you on the fly, then presumably it's a fluid state, so locking settings beforehand seems unlikely.

It's not the end of the world or anything, but I don't think it's very cool if it works how I imagine (and of course, it very well may not). For example I hate SSAO most of the time, it doesn't seem like I'll have much choice to disable it if my computer is considered of certain performance.

Ok winners are
fokkusuppa & BahaFS

This was the method I used: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/770763.html

I also randomized(1-100) the amount of 'Refreshes'. First winnder I refreshed 24 times and second 81.

Here's the images of proof of both winners as everyone can see, everyone was on equal footing.

BahaFS & fokkusuppa

I'm adding both of you to steam, my tag is ' flynt flossy'.

For the rest, it was fun =)

congrats to those guys :)

Very much this. I'm liking the recent increase of XBLA games popping up on Steam.

I think that this is going to be an increasing trend. I think a lot of the smaller games are better off on steam than on XBLA and a lot of devs will begin to realize that.

I believe I saw them using Radiant in some of the trailers so I don't think it's as different from the rest as you are saying.

If you can access an INI, I'm gonna assume that fluid settings nonsense will just have a toggle so that it can be forced off. If not, there is gonna be a severe amount of bitching from the PC side to get them to patch in the toggle.

I hope you're right.

But if you can't at the very least force v-sync, I'm not buying it.

heh no problem guys. All for the namesake of generosity!
I actually though about it afterwards, and should have just chose two random people in the thread and contact them. Surprises sometimes work better heh :p

I really didn't want to this be a 'competition'. None the less, as long as everyone enjoyed it!

BahaFS gift sent.

Fokkusuppa, accept my invite :D

What games did the winners request?
Stallion Free said:
I don't think I have ever encountered a game that I couldn't force that on.
Have you ever encountered a game that had fluid graphical settings decided by the engine which the user couldn't control from in-game?

EA with the same $4.99 sale on select titles that they did last weekend.

so if u were interested in anything there but missed out, now is the second chance.

Grrr as an American living overseas I find nothing more annoying/frustrating right now than whatever IP/region blocking technology EA has in place on the Origin store. Even though I can use a proxy to browse the store and put items in my cart (to pay for with me 100% real authentic American credit card!) I can't checkout through any proxies...it just keeps dumping me on the main page if I try to checkout. I want those $5 games damn it... :(

No, but why would that have any effect on v-sync?
They are presumably prioritizing graphical settings, so in an ideal situation you will be running at the highest speed your monitor can allow, v-sync'd, with all settings on max. Every notch of performance below that loses you something. I would put v-sync at the top of all other settings. I can't speak to where id will put it. If I get 'high' shadows and no v-sync, they've fucked up.

I'm a fucking moron.

EDIT: And that game looks crazy. I hadn't heard of it.

V-sync is not something that would change dynamically. That would be incredibly irritating and a massive oversight.

RAGE: I took the opportunity and looked at the options menu. There were no graphic options beside resolution, brightness, anti-aliasing and GPU transcoding. Is this a limitation of the test version?
This is a feature of the id Tech 5. The Engine automatically adjusts to your hardware to ensure the best performance and graphics the hardware can provide..

Oh come on, I expect better from id. Is it that hard to just put the graphical options in there?

If you can't edit it outside, I'd certainly be annoyed. I tend to prioritize Anti Aliasing over quite a few graphical options. Just because I find jagged edges incredibly annoying. I don't doubt AA will be one of the first things switched off if you don't meet a certain requirement if the game automatically chose your settings. I suppose I can force AA through drivers, but sometimes that can cause glitches.

The console version has a dynamic framebuffer. I'm not ruling out anything till we know more personally.

You would appear to be safe on that. Resolution and AA are on the graphics settings menu.
