I was gonna say FEAR, but that works. At least I remember liking it when I played it several years ago...on PS2 (don't hate). It's too bad it won't ever be on Steam or GOG. :(

STALKER is also badass, though.

I'm playing through Half Life 2 for the first time at the moment.

Absolutely loving it. I can see why it's so highly regarded. I've been suffering a pretty consistent burnout of single player FPS games recently but Half Life 2 makes me feel like I'm playing one for the first time again. Feels very fresh.

Also, it holds up REALLY well visually in my opinion. There's still not an awful lot wrong with alot of the textures and water effects. Playing it in 2011, it doesn't look all that out of place.

Currently going through the Highway 17 section. Without spoiling anything, roughly how far in am I? Steam says I've played it for 5.8 hours.

I would say about half way, maybe more. Technically you're past half way in level count, but Highway 17 itself is the longest I believe.

Well, that's not really true. If you stop at all the things it's long, you can rip thru that chapter.

I still need to finish Stalker barely touched my copy. The screen rocking when you move though hurts my eyes alot didn't see any options to turn that off.I may give it another try though can't get anything new because of my internet cap lol so it will tie me over till I get Bastion

STALKER is a fantastic series but I wouldn't call them great shooters

Maybe I'm weird, but I love the gunplay in STALKER. I'd only rank FEAR above it. Enemies soaked up a bit too much damage in SoC, but it's perfect in CoP. I love that the guns are unreliable, with realistic amount of spread (for a videogame). When the bullets do land, they're fucking lethal. The gunplay combined with the unpredictable emergent moments makes for some pretty intense firefights.

love it

Of course NOLF2 is better than NOLF, it has the Siberia mission in it.

One thing people often forget is that the gunplay in FEAR is really just an evolution of the shooting in NOLF2.

Yeah you fucked up that game is great, thankfully it will only take a couple of years before it goes on sale again so hang in there.

Oh, I just realized that i have that game in my steam game library. I should maybe play it then...

I got my friend to gift it to me and he said i didn't have to pay him back. Well....now I feel bad because I played it for 30 hours and stopped. What a crock of shit.

I played some of DA 2 and it was sickening. But maybe I'll give the original a chance someday.
Ok, so I haven't tried DA2 but just about every impression I've read of it has mentioned that it sucks and it is not Dragon Age.

Dragon Age: Origins is a really great RPG that people should be playing. It's like Final Fantasy XII but at PC standards (and better overall than FFXII with room to argue over which story you like more).

Wait... are you saying 30 hours isn't enough? O_o That's longer than I play 98% of the games I buy.

I've put about 70 hours into Civ V.

Something about it isn't quite as good as Civ IV even now.

I suspect it's the REALLY SLOW calculations per turn. Civ IV early game would end turns really quickly. Civ V ends turns slowly right from the start. It slows down the pace of the game.

I'm getting back into it a bit now. They've rebalanced the game quite significantly, I think it's better now than at launch, but turns are still too slow.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure there was a recent Steam entry in the registry for a Civ 5 GOTY if you're one of those people that holds out for those. I'm sure it'll cost more but I know there are some people that would rather wait to get the whole thing cheap. Still a tremendous value at $10 or so, though.

Ugh, wish I could have paid that much at launch. Civ V sucks.
What's so bad about it? I've never played a Civ game except for maybe an hour of Revolution but I recently got 5 and have been hooked.

I've only played 2 near full games so far(both to maybe the late 1800s or early 1900s) and Steam says I've already put in 30.8 hours. Like I said, I've never played the game before so I'm sure it would be faster if I already understood how the game works.

Anyone actually play Combat Wings? Looks like a fun little game, that should be worth $2.50. Also, a bit more arcady then a heavy duty flight sim.

I really wasn't a fan of them removing religion, and the game ran like a pig after about 20 turns. I feel like the hex board ended up restricting movement options, since direct paths became a lot harder on some maps. Also the game nickels and dimes you for DLC so bad it's criminal. Plus, no animations in multiplayer made my group of friends feel like we might as well just play a board game.

Basically, the only change I liked was no stacking units.

granted I basically played the game for a week, was disappointed, and uninstalled it, so maybe patches have made it better. I guess I should give it another shot some time

When was the last time Oblivion and Morrowind were on sale, and how often do they go on sale? Been considering picking both up for the mods as I have them on the Xbox and 360 currently. Maybe I could answer my own question with some sort of Skyrim bundle/deal?

Steam down for anyone?

I tried launching Witcher 2 and it gave me an error about contacting the key server, so i exited steam and now it won't let me back in. I'm stuck at "Connecting to Steam Account:"

Well, got in, still can't contact the key server....

They were just on sale for Quakecon week.

They were on sale like 2 weeks ago during Quakecon. $15 for both IIRC. Oblivion goes on sale during pretty much every Christmas and Summer sale. Morrowind not so much.

There was a massive Quakecon sale not too long ago.

Yup I just tried to load the store and the community section and it's down. Hope it's nothing serious.

You and me both, I have the day off tomorrow and I plan on playing me shit tons of Deus Ex. Hopefully it's just some maintenance or prep for the launch tomorrow(if they need to do that?)
