What if we had a Steam Account with all of the Gaffers on it, and then people could just link to that account when someone new wants some friends and it'd have everyone on the list and then can pick and choose?

Sorta like the Xbox variant? I'm not sure how that works but I feel like we have a lot of people here.

When you say steam account with all of GAF on it, do you mean something akin to a group?
There's spreedsheets in community I believe with ID's, or there's the Steam group located at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/neogaf (I hope that's reachable, I can't confirm as of writing.) which I think is what you're thinking about. It's "only" got about three thousand users, but it's one way of finding others.

Yeah, I don't play online games often, and when I do it's typically CS/CS:S, so I don't bother adding GAFers for anything other than gifting purposes.

I just joined the Steam Trade beta client and after a while and a restart 3 games started updating, one of which is Magicka and it's downloading 1GB which if I remember correctly is the whole game, what the hell? Anyone had this happen before? Is it going to do the same for the other games?

I do remember that there was a problem with the beta in the start, that some users had this problem, but according to Valve that was supposed to have been fixed, it might just be these three of yours that are bugged, or they're being switched to the new content delivery system. You might want to report this as a bug on the official forums and see if there's been anyone that's been having the same error still, if not, I can just hope you're not on bandwidth cap.

Well everyone who posted here got immediately about 50 new friends, that would have taken quite a bit longer in the dedicated thread. I guess its okay to have this coming up here once a few months for new users. It shouldnt be the main topic for every day, though. You probably wont read anything about it anymore in 1-2 days.
