Whim, click, install, play.

That's a good recipe for buyer's remorse. It's especially worse with DD though. If you had buyers remorse after buying a retail game, at least you could sell it to get some of your money back.

Does anyone have kind of dreadful performance in the actual Steam application? I don't know whether it's bloat or my now oldish rig is just showing its teeth, but fade ins and outs are not smooth at all and store navigation is kind of sluggish.

Steam has always been kind of shitty performance wise, both on my old and new rig.

"I support this thread!

So curious, but do people skin their steam or do they leave it at default?"

I still use the preinstalled ones but not the basic gray/olive green one they have for default I choose one of the other ones they have.

It's also a good recipe for finding games you really enjoy that you may not have picked up at retail.

That works both way my friend.

Don't hate, just sit back and enjoy.

That wasn't your argument though, steam is cheaper sometimes, especially with it's bigger packages like the new edios one and the sale on a game every weekend, and some people think it's more convenient to have it on the server so they don't have to keep track of the physical copy. It obviously has it's advantages for some, if you don't like those advantages fine but don't try to shit up a steam thread to when they're are clear advantages for it and obviously disadvantages too like anything else.

How is expressing his opinions on STEAM shitting up the thread? It has its disadvantages, one being that you can save a lot of bloody money by buying in stores. Often you save over 50%.

I hate the steam shop. I hate their overpricing. I hate their censoring. I'll probably never buy something on steam again, f you Valve. So full of LOSE.

It was they way he made his arguement, by questioning how someone could find 'win' with Steam. A better way perhaps would have been something like " I can see how some of you may find Win,but here are my opinions...". Instead he chose:

God forbid we leave our houses...

Come at something like a troll, be treated like a troll.

What are you talking about?

Has there ever been a proper age verification system online? Most systems ask users to volunteer an age, any age. As long as the age submitted is over 17, you're golden.

Valve isn't at fault here, it's the censorship in general.

Ah, I was under the impression that a lot of games got censored in Germany at retail.
No. If I had bought TF2/HL2 Ep.2/the Orange Box at retail it wouldn't have been censored

Isn't this just like making an official Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo thread? I hope all Steam news doesn't get shoved in this thread.

Yeah, the porno sites.

They check my age when I give them my credit card details.

Ah, that would suck :/ Maybe it won't be so bad if he keeps the OP updated but still I see how you can start overlooking a lot if this starts to become a catch all for steam.

So is anyone else playing Chaos Theory? I'm finding it fun, the puzzles are interesting except for some of the timing based ones.

I gave it five minutes; it didn't really hold my interest.

The Day Of Defeat beta, on the other hand, is good clean fun.

More like a Virtual Console, XBLA, or PSN Store Update thread.

Oh wait.
Exactly.

I felt this thread was needed. Sometimes I see some steam deals or announcements that I don't think deserve their own thread but should be posted on GAF. Like COD4 being 20% off or the Eidos pack (actually, I made a thread about that...).

Consider this thread subscribed.

Why would they upgrade DoD before CSS?
They're saving the worst for last?

(In all seriousness, there are a ton of people who still play CS:S. My guess is that significantly more people playing CS:S than DOD:S, so they're in no rush to get more players to the CS:S side.)

I was wondering when Steam was going to get its own thread, but does the service really need more exposure on the Neo GAF?

Can it ever get enough exposure? All the publishers should put out their games through steam!

Ubisoft's games are not available in Europe, so no deals for us...

wat

The german version of Orange box IS censored, with the characters in TF2 blowing up like robots when dying, instead of being mutilated.

Hey you have your XBLA thread and technically both services are the same concept! :)

Has anyone purchased Chaos Theory yet? I am so tempted to buy it and I wanted impressions of it.

*edit: duh there is a demo, I might as well try it.

Still waiting for Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold!
Still waiting for The Witcher!

It was announced for Steam when Atari started dumping some of their games on the service, but I've seen nothing since. ):

True enough, I wonder if there is room for another grand thread, but I suspect the people would be disinterested in it.

I think they should release microsoft game studios games on there! Age of Empires, Age of Mythology.. you name it! (Halo: CE?)

I guess that'll never happen, but MS doesnt have its own distribution channel right?

I don't think so, but they have a competing online game service, so yea...

They're waiting for the updated version to put on Steam. It'll have some of the voice work redone, extra quests, and fewer bugs. The extra content will be available as a free DLC for people who already bought the game.

It was recently delayed to this Fall I believe.

I'm thinking of buying something on Steam, but I'm not sure what to get.

Should I get Titan Quest Gold (includes Immortal Throne) if I can convince a friend or two to buy it off Steam as well? How does multiplayer work?

Titan Quest = Diablo 2 with way nicer graphics, and a better leveling system. Idk about online, never tried it.

I just want to know if I can play with a friend online if we both get it on Steam. Are there servers up, or can we create and join each other's games? If anyone knows, please tell us.

Just so you know... People are not made out of screws and hamburgers.

Weirdly, I think the censored version of TF2 (where all of the players are actually robots made out of crazy junk) fits the game better than the 'real' version where they're all supposed to be actual people.

I would like it as a toggle option for uncensored versions of the game. I also think it would fit the art direction better.
