So here's something a little... strange. It's no secret that I absolutely love Hitman so I decided to pick up a retail copy of the game because it comes with a very cool steelbook and I wanted to support the devs. I received the game today and this is what the included leaflet says

Now this doesn't really matter to me because I already own the game on Steam, but I haven't had (or needed) a DVD drive on my PC in about 5-6 years now. However if I had been buying the game for the first time this would have presented an actual problem for me.

So I went to the product verification website they link on that leaflet and they have an FAQ about this system

What is the product verification system?

The product verification system prevents the further wholesale trade of Steam activation keys without the user needing to agree to a license agreement, i.e. while infringing copyright.

Can I install a game that uses the product verification system on a computer with no DVD drive?

A DVD drive and an internet connection are required in order to get your Steam key. If you do not have a DVD drive on your computer, you can use an external drive (connected via USB) or run the product verification on another computer with a DVD drive installed. You can then use the generated Steam key on the computer you want. In the event you cannot use any of the above solutions, please visit the Square Enix Support Centre website at http://support.eu.square-enix.com, where answers to the most frequently asked questions are available. Should these not answer your query, details of telephone and web chat support are also provided.

because they want you to agree to EULA which presumably states that you cannot resell the key?

And if you cannot figure out a way to get access to a DVD drive then you are basically shit out of luck because their last piece of advice is pointing you to the generic Square Enix support website. However if you can get a DVD drive then you can generate a key which can be used/transferred anywhere, so it basically defeats the purpose of the entire exercise.

Publishers getting super weird about their CD keys these days. Also, this is not a region locked copy or anything of the sort because of where I live. It's imported from Europe meaning at least every European copy will have the same measure.

At least the steelbook is embossed and looks awesome. One store had a pre-order bonus where they were giving out a red necktie with the game lol.

FF4 After Years is also episodic, each episode following certain characters.
10 episodes total, iirc there's only party freedom in the last one.

Due to it having so many episodes, it took me longer to finish it than FF4 too, it just kinda drags too much (it took me around 40-ish hours for FF4, and around 60-ish for FF4A).

so apparently bandai added 60fps support to naruto 4 in the latest patch wonder what that's like considering the animations were done at 30fps

yeah, that sounds incredibly obtuse. which is weird coming from square, because other games like deus ex mankind divided just have their codes on the booklet as per usual.

I don't want SMT5 to be bloated with development budget it needs to sell a fuckton of copies to break even and have other part of the game suffered from that. Persona 5 scale of project is enough to make SMT5 feels ambitious and plays much better than its predecessor. The argument for Atlus to enter PC market shouldn't be about earning more money to make their development budget bloated than it should but rather accessibility to more people and reliable alternative market to sustain them considering the walking zombie husk that is Japan console market.

Sorry if I come up as being hostile. I just don't like how AAA budget perceived to makes a game automatically better when it was not the case we have seen during the 7th generation of console.

I think RU/CIS copies of Deus Ex Mankind Divided used same.

iirc, it actually uses Securom to check authenticity of disk.

So, I booted Steam and it asked for login datas. The fact is:
-I didn't log in another PCs
-I didn't log in another device
-The authenticator works as usual

Did this happen to someone else too? It's the first time it happened to me and I'm on steam from 10 years.

I have a little external DVD drive that hooks up via USB just in case I need to install something like that (
actually for porn
). It is an LG. They are fairly cheap.

Monthly will be bad because:

- XCOM 2 probably eats large portion of budget
- $5 Bonus for referrals for this bundle
- $5 Bonus for resubscribers.

Worth it for XCOM 2 alone tho if you don't own it.

Try not to get too angry at the demo coming today in the Monthly. Demos are lame, sure, but it's a pretty rad game and announced awhile ago so it could be avoided if you hadn't bought in early for XCOM.

Once you have paid for the month, you open the link for that month ie. the same site you'd access to get your XCOM 2 key from. There's a button near the top to add $5 (or regional equivalent?) to your Humble wallet.

Also, someone come over and beat the sniper boss for me so I can finish the game. Thanks!

The game is Denuvo protected and always online so I think hasn't been cracked. Which means nobody will have uploaded the ISO for it either. I do have an external USB DVD drive somewhere in the house but I haven't seen it in years and I don't even know if it still works. Will look for that I guess.

Once again, I regret buying a game digitally immensely. Stardew Valley was one of my rare exceptions and I rarely played it because it was digital. Finally might actually make a nice dent in it now that it's physical :3

It's especially odd because Stardew Valley and its' day system and the whole "one more" addictive nature especially suits it to digital. If I had to swap in a disc for it every time I played it, I'd have ended up spending a lot less time with it.
