SteamSpy - Approximate LTD sales for every game on Steam (Updated Daily)

That's not nearly as much as it deserves, but at least it didn't bomb utterly. You also need to consider that it wasn't sold only on Steam (e.g. my physical copy activates on Uplay only).

Yeah, you can add another 8-10 copies to the figures to get uPlay sales ;)

Maybe put a disclaimer of sorts so you don't get more emails from devs?

I can see certain pubs and sales aggregaters reacting like this:

Here are some more indie RPGs:

Recettear: 367k ± 35k
Chantelise: 136k ± 21k
Fortune Summoners: 102k ± 18k
Dungeons of Dredmor: 532k ± 41k

And some not necessarily indie RPGs:

Ys Oath: 133 ± 20k
Ys Origin: 204k ± 25k
Trails in the Sky: 97k ± 17k
Hyperdimension Neptunia: 53k ± 13k
Agarest: 157k ± 22k
Agarest 2: 24k ± 9k
Agarest Zero: 52k ± 13k

I am so happy/amazed at how well the Carpe Fulgur games have done. It must feel euphoric to have a game from 2007 you only expected to sell 10,000 copies do so incredibly well.

And thanks to everyone else who bought Ys, now I can finally play VI!

I'm not Russian but Space Rangers is one of the best games released in the last 10 years.

If you didn't know that, that's how noob GAF is in pc gaming terms. :p
Preach.
Divinity: Original Sin - Owners: 795,182 ± 48,469
Wasteland 2 - Owners: 410,342 ± 34,848
Dead State - Owners: 47,912 ± 11,917
Shadowrun Returns - Owners: 782,817 ± 48,092
Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Owners: 330,746 ± 31,291*
Pillars of Eternity - Owners: 226,422 ± 25,896
BG2 Enhanced Edition - Owners: 224,876 ± 25,808
I'm very, very pleased with this.

I'm confused
The Japanese pretty open to this stuff. Partially, yes since used game number sales are behind paywall but that's infinitely better than nothing. They could just released general figure of numbers for the hardware and top ten software. I mean, what can the public do with those numbers?

Good news, everyone. XPaw, creator of SteamDB just showed me how to get owners and players data for Dota 2 using official Valve API without any hacks.

In four days SteamSpy should show Dota 2 and TF2 :)

Bullshit
If Space Rangers HD sells that much, why no one on GAF talk about it? Why the hell my OP doesn't make it to the third page?
Gaf, play this game pls

There are dozens of us. I haven't really had interest on playing it, and I found myself disliking some of the changes.

Sweet, then we could get the Dota 2 player distribution across the globe right? I wonder how much Southeast Asian play it.

Honestly I haven't touched it myself for a while because other games keeps me busy. I haven't seen much change yet besides the pirates being total hax in early game.

Yes, but we'll have to wait around a week before this data will become more or less reliable :)

Dota 2 is huge, of course, 4 days sample might be good enough.

Pretty funny how neither you or arstechnica guy thought of that.

Ah right, galyonkin, I wanted to get a clarification on this.

I'd like (soon enough) to post Top 10 daily sales for a week, thus we have a better idea what actually means to be in Steam Top 10...and, when the week is over, I'll also do a weekly Top 10 thanks to the daily Top 10 data. So, if I've read correctly from your site, numbers are updated daily, at night (GMT + 2). Now, does this mean that, for example, if I want to post Top 10 sales for April 10th (example), I'll have to post them on April 11th, since the numbers take count of April 10th sales only starting from April 10th's night?
I'll definitely support this idea of making weakly thread. That way we could get more better discussion over sales number. As we can seen currently in this thread. there isn't really any discussion going on. User A post RPG sales, while user B post Indie sales. Too much to talk about in a single thread.

Also, maybe for the first week of a month we could aggregate the number of previous month? I think this will be particularly useful to see how a new game perform in their first month of release, since if we just take the number of top 10, it could dominated by super popular game like GTAV.
Pretty funny how neither you or arstechnica guy thought of that.
Sometimes the solution to a problem just lying right under our noses lol

Well we are gonna wait until after HoMM VII to see if we are gonna get another sequel. If they do make a sequel I think they can definitely solve a lot of the problems with the first game. I doubt it was an expensive game to make since they just reused assets from HoMM VI and used Unity, it is probably just a matter if they think it is worth their time to make another sequel.

iirc Valve doesn't distribute DotA 2 through steam in China. If you are still somehow able to see numbers for that region though that would be cool.

If they did, Larian would make an announcement.
Hopefully they will reach that milestone after Summer Sale.

Valve still doesnt have a spring sale :/ When you think how little time it is between fall sale, Hallowenn sale and Winter Sale.....
Doesnt even have to be big like Summer or Winter, but SOMETHING Spring related should be done. Its not like they are starved for games.

It should be called spring cleaning, and all the games that didn't get daily deals/user voted deals during the winter sale but wanted to should be put up instead of the usual suspects.

If every game sold on Steam was $5, based on this sales data how much has Steam earned Valve? Obviously it will be more but let's see what the bare minimum is.

The numbers are tiny compared to other early access games but it annoys me that more than a quarter of a million people and I bought this game.

This data tells us how many games are registered on Steam, not which storefront they were bought from. Valve take no cut from Steam keys.

I think there's too much variation in the numbers to ever have a weekly top 10 be accurate.
For example, let's say you take the last week of CS:GO. From the 27th of March to the 3rd of April, total sales are -70,000.
Edit: Damn, doublepost.

You know what's insane, if Valve took just 10% of every sale, and that list of games was $10 each, Valve's own revenue would be $15 million just off those 9 games based off the minimum of those sales figures.

Keeping up all the steam services and servers is not free though.

Right, he never said they'd have $15m profit, just that they'd have $15m revenue.

On a related note, obviously there's no way to do this, but I think it's a shame we can't get an average selling price or something like that. Would love to see how much revenue these games are actually generating, given all the sales/etc.

You are correct. I doubt the 10% would be enough to cover the cost.

Looking at the early access page really blows my mind. It's almost like most people would rather buy half finished products and wait for them to be finished.

I own Dayz and rust so I'm in this group of people

Sales data of games developed by companies based in Finland. I gathered it mostly as something to refer in future to know how the sales have developed. As a whole it seems that Steam has been pretty good for Finnish gaming industry.

So to clarify a bit, those numbers under 30k are a little more unreliable, but it's for sure that the numbers are under 30k?

Call of Juarez Gunslinger - Owners: 584,215 ± 41,565

I was curious how the Dead Island series did, by Techland.

Dead Island - 2,631,286 ± 87,812
Dead Island Riptide - 996,875 ± 54,245
Escape Dead Island - 6,752 ± 5,400 (yikes)

Dying Light - 564,123 ± 40,845

Note that the original dead island was in a bundle and has been discounted quite a bit.

Dying light is the most surprising to me, it rated far better than both dead island games, and was far more polished (imo a better game.) But didn't break over 750k. Most are waiting for a sale I suppose. I'm also not saying it was a failure, I just expected it to be more popular with the zombie crowd.

I think that a pretty good number for a zombie game on Steam :).. many people didn't even finished their Dead Island games, and other zombie games :D

Just now I found out that Thief from last year sold around milion copies.. that's insane.. the worst of the Thief games, it just came and left and look now, what a big number they have
