If he does poorly as a CEO, he won't last the 5 and 10 years required for the stock options to vest and he'll be ousted before the stock options vest. That and the stock is only worth more the better he does and less the worse he does.
Whilst what you say is true in part, he'd still get the customary golden umbrella and he's already got a massive fortune to live off (not even taking into consideration his multi-million dollar wages).

His current massive fortune was earned off of Apple's past performance, he's earned it--it's not like some executive that is looting a near-bankrupt company while laying off employees. I don't know how you know the details of Apple's "golden umbrella." Steve Jobs, for instance, never had a golden parachute as CEO: http://www.betabeat.com/2011/08/25/steve-jobs-retirement-compensation/

He's also surely received a nice amount of money already for his time as COO, to say nothing of the positions he had before coming to Apple.
His two positions before were at Compaq and IBM's personal PC business, which were unprofitable businesses that have been shut down. I don't know if he really was earning that much at those two places.

I'm not sure anyone said he was that sort of exec... the argument was that even if he fails he'll still be very, very, very comfortable, and he will be.

As for Jobs not having a golden parachute, he's somewhat of a special case, in many, many ways (not forgetting his wages amongst other aspects).

That picture is rather heartbreaking; no one should have to deteriorate that way.

Look at it this way - Steve has been fighting all this time and even in that picture shows that he hasn't given up although the inevitable may be closer than any of us know.

you've probably said already but what sort of stuff is in this collection? is it all video?
All H.264 video.

Was he an executive? Because if the financial collapse has taught us anything, it's that executives get pair regardless of their company's success.

That picture is terrible. I felt like crying.

I gasped looking at this photo as we were about to post it. I was so sad to see him in such a frail state

also thanks for linking to the story
I'm not sure about you personally, but the collective you are a bunch of assholes.

While I'm not a big Apple fan, I feel TMZ crossed the line with the pics of Jobs. The man's dying. They need to give him some dignity before the end.

Is this just Apple keynotes and Apple stuff, or does this include public announcements Jobs did or NeXT and Pixar, and interviews to the media, etc?

Don't gotta be an ass scorcho, I keep them for reference. I've lent you help before in past threads.

There's several NeXT stuff but nothing Pixar.

What's nonsense is how much sports players make. Some of them will make more money than the CEO of Apple in that time span, and they play a freaking SPORT.
The players that make that much are the best 20 or so at their job in the world. They earn that money.

giga, you know your TouchPad comes with 50 gigs of "cloud storage" from "box.net," right?

Let's abuse the shit out of it.

what's wrong with archiving conference videos? comparing this to having pictures of women is stupid.
nothing is. i'm a bit ornery tonight and realize i shouldn't be arguing about emotional investments in companies on a forum dedicated to video games. that i willingly joined and continue to love.

Rashard Lewis, Joe Johnson, Jermaine O'Neal and Eddy Curry say hi.

Eddy Curry made over $30 million playing in just 10 games the last 3 years. That's less than 5% of games.

I don't understand how the picture is so hard to believe.

Pancreatic Cancer has a 6% survival rate beyond 5 years. He's already surpassed that but it's a brutal form of cancer. I watched a healthy, power lifting, uncle of mine deteriorate over 3 years with the disease till he looked even worse than the pic. It's very sad.

Tim Cook is the *only* person that can run Apple. Steve Jobs is about to move on, and he decided that the future of his pride and job, his entire raison d'être should be left in the hands of this one individual. He was elected CEO, and in that time Apple stock has already rebound. It was decided that stock holders should PROMISE 43¢ per share they hold to the creation of a million shares, to ensure no other company for the next 10 years can take Tim away.

If Tim does nothing more than keep everything the same, and continues pulling profit, and keeping stock to climb, he has earned that 43¢ investment in the eyes of stock holders.

Understand why it was done?

TMZ crosses the line about 10 times a day. And the more fucked up shit they do the more popular they get because that is what people want to see.

I just finished cancer treatment and I was adamant that no pictures were ever taken of me because I wanted no record of how I looked. I had no idea how I looked for 10 months (was able to avoid all mirrors and reflections) and I am glad for it. No one has the right to see you like that, especially without your consent.

good luck to you! there's nothing quite like waking up and realizing that dread of going back for another round of treatments is gone and you can just live again. granted, fear is always in the back of the mind, but the sheer elation in returning to normalcy is unmatched.

You couldn't be more right, it's a beautiful feeling.

I'm pretty sure equap is either being sarcastic with his photoshop critique or equap is just grasping at nothing. Steve Jobs has been frail for the longest time, just never this bad.

Well, more like equap reposted that image from Reddit. So, neither.

The lower legs look so skewed because the calf is pretty much gone.
He doesn't have actual pants because of practical concerns when it comes to the caring aspect (clothing, hygiene). That fabric just hangs straight down.
Whoever made that debunk pic doesn't know much about compression artifacts.
High frequency detail is lost at straight-edged high contrast borders with a high compression ratio. That is why the edge of the lower fabric looks so unnaturally straight.
He has uneven beard growth, and that together with (again) compression artifacts leads to the bulbous part on the cheek there.

If TMZ did something like this, they'd open themselves to a pretty heavy lawsuit.

Breathe in, breathe out and accept that people die eventually. You as well.

He did wear a belt for the first time this year at one of the keynotes.

Before that I think they used to talk about how he didn't wear belts because he thought they were useless and he likes simplicity.

Sorry but this looks like total bullshit to me. None of these claims look convincing at all. I'd rather trust TMZ than whichever random internet dude made that.
+1. TMZ might be sleazy, but I don't think they would pull off such an elaborate Photoshop like that. That analysis is not very good and I've got experience professionally retouching images in Photoshop.

"Pinched in" - see no evidence for that, honestly.
"Ankle skewed" - again, what?
"Areas cropped out between his legs" - No, it's what happens when you have a deathly frail man with significant muscle loss, combined with overexposed highlights from a bright sunny day.
"Warping done to face" - No, looks like compression artifacts combined with Steve's spotty ability to grow a beard at his age. Why even Photoshop this part anyways.
Lines around neck - Again, blown out highlights from the camera makes for a loss in detail.

They don't seem to have a problem with the authenticity of Steve's face, and in fact it matches quite logically with how frail the rest of his body looks.
