Sales of Guilty Gear Accent Core really call into question the idea that the Wii crowd is into fighters - especially when you consider that the game fixed almost all of the issues that bugged up the PS2 release and it still only sold a fractional amount even adjusting for userbase. I understand what you are trying to say here, but even when you look at sales in Japan, it's clear that the Wii's market doesn't cover the same bases that would end up supporting a Street Fighter game. This is part of the reason why the Xbox 360, even in Japan, is getting a lot of the defacto arcade ports with just a fraction of the install base of the Wii.
What I think was the fundamental issue with GG:AC, was the same thing that affected a number of games that had Wii/PS2 ports.
In a case scenario where a Wii and PS2 release co-exist, which version is probably more likely to sell? The PS2 version, of course, because more people stand to have a PS2 even more than they have a Wii, plus probably have everything they would need to get a good game play experience on the PS2, as opposed to having to re-buy stuff (re: arcade pads/sticks) all over again for a new console.
If it was such a thing that the Wii market didn't have to compete directly with the PS2 seemingly every time, I would imagine things would be much different. But it's the devs and publishers themselves that do more to screw over the possibility of crafting a solid fighting game base on the Wii, and that's the price they have to pay if they want to keep playing it "safe" with the PS2.
Any way, when I saw Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, I was pretty much set on believing that SF4 was probably never going to come to the Wii, and TatsuCap is probably a good reason to support. As it stands right now, TatsuCap is probably going to be a much more popular game in Japan, than SF4 ever will be. So, my thinking is, instead of trying to downscale SF4 for the sake of Wii and PS2 demographics, why not just give them TatsuCap, and let them have their own game?
As it stands right now, TatsuCap doesn't look like anything that Fate Unlimited Codes (Capcom and 8ing's System 246 title) couldn't put out. So I think it's pretty safe to presume that TC is a lower end game not meant to compete in the same venue as SF4. So thus, I'm really of the opinion that the main reason why PS2 and Wii won't be a part of the SF4 party, is because they'll be having their own bash with the Tatsunoko and Capcom Bunch hosting.
And since the PS2 and Wii market is still very viable in Japan, coupled with the fact that TatsuCap will probably remain Japanese exclusive? This all seems to be coming together in a way that I believe Capcom has been planning for a while now. SF4 is for the West, and TatsuCap is Japan's own.
