Suikoden II |OT| The Affordable 108

daoster, that train of thought is what lead to Suikoden Tierakis which was horrible.

You can create a game that has references from the previous games, even characters, but still be a story that can stand on it's own.

I agree. But I guess my point is that, I think we're more likely to see a new Suikoden in the Tierakis tradition, as opposed to what the fans really want.

But Konami already tried that and it failed. (Twice.) That's why they've been doing nothing with the series.

I think if they do revisit it, it will be due in part to the efforts of fans and dedicated Konami employees like InstallBase, who are all advocating for the original world and premise. And new canon Suikodens aren't impenetrable to newcomers. Every single mainline Suikoden game can be enjoyed on it's own just fine and I would imagine a hypothetical Suikoden VI will follow the same pattern. Of course the experience will be made much richer if you've played previous games, but it is not so much of a road block that a better alternative would be yet another unwanted non-canon spinoff. That has zero appeal to anyone IMO.

Of course I'm being very generous to the current mindset of Konami here, but it's a new year and I'm going to be positive about it. :)

Exactly: they're all (even IV) is filled with windows on greater, larger, deeper narrative. It helps the games ain't stridently linear, too.

Played through it.

I lacked 1 character. One fucking character, that I was supposed to get at the early battle at Muse. Fuck this fucking fucked up overfucking shit.

Still a great game, but that's frustrating.

I guess I'll play it again when the EU PSN version is released.

The German version is so incredibly bad, according to the credits it was translated by some Japanese guys, that explains a lot. Often they wouldn't even get the genders right, girls talked to each others like men.

You're not supposed to get all the characters the first time through. Gamers today are so spoiled.

we didn't have gamefaqs at that age. Or Steam sales. You were expected to play a game no less than 8 times, and discover something new each time(sometimes you might even discover the plot). It was called value. It helped give us character. 108 of them.

I know the feeling. On my first gameplay, I missed only Clive. Who had a time limit. :(

I guess you guys have more faith in a potential Suikoden VI (and Konami) then I do. I expect it to be a mobile RPG with IAPs.

I expect Konami to see what's made a lot of these mobile RPGs from Japan print money and copy it. It may not be a bad game (Some of these Mobile RPGs are quite fun), but it's not what I want for a Suikoden, and would rather see it non happen. It's the eternal pessimist in me when it comes to Suikoden.

GameFAQS has been around since 95. And that way of playing is not fun for a lot of people. I played Suikoden I back in 99, and used an FAQ all the way thru to get all the characters, and enjoyed it just fine. Some of us just like getting it right the first time around.

It will end up like Breath of Fire VI. lol
:(((

Help. I'm near the end, I think, at the
the part where my army has gone to liberate Greenhill and Muse and I'm in the war room waiting for reports. The first couple came in like a few minutes, but I've been standing here for like half an hour waiting and nobody will say anything and the guards won't let me leave. What the hell do I do??

I finally beat it. Wow, this game was fucking amazing. The ending was really great.
I got the ending with Nanami dying and Jowy disappearing. I read you can save Nanami and end the game with the three of you adventuring together, but I like the ending I got. It was more emotional.

Probably one of my favourite rpgs. I wish this series was more accessible. I don't have a PS2 to play the rest of the games.

just started this series again. going to focus on finishing 1-2-3-5. what a fucking amazing set of games. so hyped! havent finished them since my younger years.

Well, lets hope this leads to the rest of the mainline series being released on PSN.

I think I'm near the end. I don't want it to end. How far am I?
In Tinto, preparing an attack on Neclord.

Story wise I think this is around 80%. Time wise it is hard to say as it depends on whether you get side tracked and what you have done, what you have yet to do.

Is anyone else experiencing freezes and severe slowdowns on the Vita?

Currently crawling to an inn to save because it has been a while since i saved...

Please be patient.
If you want more information, please follow @konamieu or @konamiuk on twitter.

Follow @konami or me @installbase for info from the US.

I'm trying to figure out if my VITA might be slightly broken. I have only noticed it while playing this game, but sometimes, the character will run around, or the dialogue will auto skip as if I have the button pressed to do so. But I don't. Has anyone else encountered this? It fixes if I do a quick turn off and on, and is only really annoying if it forces me to select an answer to a question before I can read what it says.

You're pressing the back touch screen.

You're pressing the back touch screen.

okay, good! I was wondering if that was it. I assume there is a way to disable this for some games? The last thing I need is for the back of system, where all my fingers rest, to be a giant button that activates sometimes.

If you hold the PS button, you can configure the controls to totally turn off the back screen and assign L2/R2 for the front screens. My go-to set up for most PSX games on Vita.

It is an emulation so slowdowns will be present, they were in the original ps1 as well. Didn't encounter freezes when playing on vita.

Well I think I ruined my chance at 108 stars. After beating
neclord, I went to recruit Abizboah in the mine.
Appearently my other listening crystal is missing. I only used one on the bird. I think I am screwed. :(

There's a couple options. Did you recruit the unicorn which also needs a listening crystal (you can only pick 2 out of the 3)?

Wait I did get the unicorn. So if I got the unicorn and griffin does that keep me from getting
Abizboah
and 108 stars?

Nope, you have 108 stars (well assuming you get the rest). It's a 3 character option for 2 star positions.

There's actually more octopus you can get screwing over your 108 stars, but you're good.

I really wish they would of included L'Rulodia as one of the large animal Stars of Destiny, and then have Chuchara share a star with Ayda, so you don't get screwed over if you want the whole kraken family.

(Or even better, just let you recruit L'Rulodia and Chuchara without a listening crystal if you already have Abizboah.)

Well I just finished the game and holy toledo was that an incredible experience! It was a great story with a great cast.It was a blast from start to finish. I do have a quarrel with the ending.
I made it all the way to the end where I had a duel with Jowry. Ok so both leaders just disappear and go off together with Naomi. That's fine and dandy but now you have two big armies without leaders, not to mention the land is still in shambles after the war.
I'm just saying.

That being aside I consider this game a great piece of work. I think that even after the hype and excitement settles for me this will still be my second favorite JRPG of all time after Chrono Trigger. It made the long wait for me to play more worth it. Now I can start playing the PS2 Suikoden games seeing as I bought them a good four years ago after playing Suikoden 1 on PSN.

Question is there anything I can get from transferring my Suikoden 2 save onto my PS2 for sequel?

The rewards for having a S2 save for 3 are minimal.

The only things you get for loading Suikoden II data into Suikoden III are two
extra scripts (with plays related to events in Suikoden I and II), boosted
levels for three characters, and references to the names you gave to the heroes
and armies of the previous games

By scripts they mean that in the game there is a
playhouse and you cast characters in it.

I'm still really enjoying this game, but getting the 108 stars feel a lot more overwhelming than in Suiko 1.

Also. fuck that walk to Gregminster and then being sent to bed by Shu, losing McDohl right away.

Have they narrowed down the 'January' EU release date yet? This wait is killing me.

Speaking of which, have they confirmed which version we'll get? I'd love to play the games, but If Konami forces me to play the German version - like they did with Metal Gear Solid - then I don't need to look forward to the release any longer. Those are garbage.

McDohl, otherwise known as DcDohl in my game, makes what could possibly be a harder final third of the game so much easier. I felt awesome having the two leads fighting the final boss together though. So awesome.

Will probably be awhile before I replay this but goddamn, I really want to. The next three games need to come to the PSN, I have never played any of them before.

Man I really want to play Suikoden 3 but my fat PS3 is all packed away and not sure if it even works anymore.

Installbase, what are the chances of a PS2 classic for Suikoden 3?

Considering Konami is doing a Let's Play for Suikoden III right now, like they did with Suikoden 2 before it was announced, I'd say the chances are pretty good :) haha

Let's hope for the same for IV, Rhapsodia (IV-2), and V!

I hope so!
Only bad news is that it seemed to be impossible to load Suikoden 2 data into 3 on a ps3, so you probably won't be able to do it if it's a PSN classic.

If you've finished the game, this lets you know what happens afterwards.

Well, Suikoden 1 and 2 did manage to top the PSN sales in the US for the month of December. It is not often that the likes of Final Fantasy, Crash, Spyro, Resident Evil, and GTA give way to other franchises, but Suikoden managed it for a small time at least.
