I'm going to have disagree that it was miles better. It looked better due to the bump to HD, but it wasn't miles better. PGR2 was a great looking game and managed to hold its own against PGR3 pretty well.

I think there's the issue of it looking like a Splatoon map at the end of a match, personally. That, and they brought back the character design from FUSE before EA ruined it.

I guess it matters the most. But I have to admit, if you have a 55 inch HDTV (or bigger), starting to get harder and harder to play these sub-hd resolutions on them. But 900p still looks great. I mean Ryse IMO was the best looking game at launch.

Resistance 3 was a beautiful game that wasruineddegraded by what looked like several coats of Vaseline on the screen. I love their games but am not really surprised by the news, they seem not to value IQ as much as other things.

The point still stands though, even in the bottom set of three the improvement from 2000-20000 isn't as great as from 200-2000
Assuming we are only talking about polygons. Yes, to "sufficiently" render a human torso, the jump from 200 to 2000 polygons brings us to a more reasonable threeshold of difference, than that of 2000 to 20000.
But if you use that magnitude of difference and apply it to other areas to increase believability in graphics, like shading or animation, then the difference becomes extremely stark.
What applies to polygons, does not apply elsewhere.
While you may see a "diminishing returns of detail in one area", that does not translate everywhere. We have light years to advance in terms of physicality, animation, and shading (lighting) in our games.

Oh, I completely agree that we still have massive areas to improve when it comes to graphical fidelity. However diminishing returns is still one of the main reasons that the jump from OG to 360 is greater than 360 to X1.

I don't understand what you are all so surprised about. Insomniac make great games, but has unfortunately in this case has been hindered by weak hardware. If you were Insomniac, you'd want your art to shine as brightly as possible, which in this case it cannot.
