Team Fortress 2 - Bidwell's Big Plan [Microtransactions]

I know this isn't the main TF2 thread, but damn does the demo player suck. I want to be able to rewind! And why does the avi maker have to be so buggy :'(
I WARNED YOU MAN

I put 5 bucks on my Steam Wallet and wasted 2,50 of them on a key to open a Crate. Lo and Behold, a motherfucking Equalizer came out of it. Grrr...

Now i have another 2,50 to spend on something... which will probably be another key... and then never again!

I also traded a Southern Hospitality for the new Medic Saw (i don't even remember it's name!). A friend of mine dropped it instants after. :lol

How would I know what opening one of those boxes felt like?
How would I ever know that there's a "opening your box" countdown?
How would I ever get that special hat that you win when you make your first purchase?

Now I know all of the above. I was planning on buying the duel thing also, but it's dumb (it's just a "whoever made more points in the round wins") and it only gives you a badge that serves no purpose. So I guess I'll just waste the other 2,50 on another key, get something stupid again and have a nice story.

I regret nothing out of it. I just wish the keys would be cheaper/the prizes would be better. Now I can talk about it because I've done it and the experience kind of sucked. You can flail your gums all you want, but you never did it, so your opinion is kinda worthless.

But I don't have the money for fraps :(
It's not that expensive. ):

But I guess it is if you're not sure you want to actually do much with it.

There might be alternatives that are even cheaper. I've never looked around, though, because fraps works for me!

Finally got a new FAN to craft the new scout pistol. Pretty awesome. Seems to be a nice mix between regular shotgun and the FAN. Now I need the hat to get that set bonus. :/

Also got another crate and after opening the first one I feel like just trashing the thing.

TF2 has had like 3x the number of concurrent players since this latest update. I guess people at least like the idea of it.

The source recorder is so much better than FRAPS. If you don't know how to use it or what you can do with it there are plenty of tutorials out there.
No, it's absolutely terrible. It constantly crashes. Unstable as hell. Even moreso than the demo player itself.

EDIT: Or are you not talking about the official tool, is this something about which I'm unaware.

I'm talking about the official tool that records demos in to tiny .dem files. I'll give you that the demo playback could be a little easier to use as well as the tool that converts them into .avi or uncompressed video. But i'd much rather mess with those tools than having FRAPS suck your performance into ginormous files.

I record demos, and then fraps the good parts later. This is beyond preferable to praying to the Source gods that the avi converter won't crash.

Ideally you would record demos and then record the demos with fraps so you don't have a performance decrease while playing. It would be easier than trying to use the crappy avi recorder.

edit: okay yeah a little too late

i've been idling and playing in and out a bit for 10 hours and i have gotten 1 item

it's fucking bullshit i see people getting items left and right

maybe you should stop trying to cheat the system?

Valve are pretty good at stopping this sort of thing so it wouldn't surprise me if all that time you spent idling counted for nothing (or as a negative)

typo, i haveNT gotten 1 item in 10 hours

i played it only friday/saturaday this week and i've gotten like 4 items

10 hours and 1 item? The only way that'd be possible is if you hit the max amount of item drops for that day.

I didn't play TF2 for a week, so when I came back to it I keep getting three items at once for a little bit

Got disconnected from the Steam server while you were gone is all I can think of.

Got a crate and used the $2.50 I had left over to open it up, name tag inside.. not the greatest, but at least it's not a equalizer. From now on I'll probably just trade em for the new weapons I don't have.

TF2 Wiki says 8 per day, for 56 per week.
They must have... completely changed everything, then.

Because you never used to get that many, ever. It was like 20 a week if you idled and got lucky, and then they changed the drop system to drop like 8 a week, whether you idled or not, to discourage idling.

Well alright then! I was just going off of that, which said it was the hard cap you could ever possibly get, even though most people still got like 6 or 8 a week.

Someone asked this earlier, but I got a crate today, then like 20 minutes later I got a normal drop, so I don't think they interfere with your normal item drops.

They don't, according to Robin.

The fish is great.

I still get nothing but battleaxes, swords, and shields from drops though.

So all the hats/items are not for sale? On the store it as ALL previous and new items. Not all the hats show up for me.

There are a few that you can't buy.

There are also a few that you can only buy (or maybe it's just the keys to unlock the crates), if I read the PC Gamer interview correctly. U:

I think everything can drop except for black and white paint and keys, and therefore unusual hats.

so when's the next update..........
Pretty soon probably. There was supposed to be a new game mode and a fifth polycount item set with this update but it wasn't ready in time.

In 10 years

Right around the announcement of HL3's release date

Just before Episode 3 comes out

It's never too late.

Oh god, new engy stuff please.

So happy.

so is there a definite number of drops per week?

Yes, something like 7-8 not including hats. Not sure if it includes crates now, either. This is what killed idling. There's no point in it when about an hour a day will get you all the items. Or at most you just have to idle 1 night per week. I think it was a real smart move on their part.

The new game mode is a Uber Diablo style encounter. Every time a certain number of crates are opened on any given server Saxton Hale will pop up and the server will have to fight him. This won't happen very often because it will be a Valve employee playing Hale.

Its 8 Max per day, and the amount per week is randomized between I think 8 and 16, or some other lowish arbitrary numbers.

Its ether Engineer or Demoman IMO, but I am leaning more with Demoman since the Engineer just got his update a few months ago. He should get a new wrench pretty soon though!

More like a limit per week.

Valve made it so casual and regular players won't get too far behind people who idle 24/7. Now there's far less point to idling if you play the game regularly.

i dont have time to play and wait for drops

guess i'll continue to just offline practice for drops, i'm not home anyways

At some point Valve is going to add a new wrench. They already have the model in the game files but Valve has no idea what to give it as attributes. Only that they intend to.

But hey, it's a good sign.

I'm wanting the hinted at ROBOT or something else to work with while playing combat engy.

Yeah but that does not work. If I play 2 hours a day I am not having the same chances as the guy who plays 12 hours a day. Casuals are always behind and thats why some of my friends stopped playing, they felt like they miss out for not playing as much.

Actually you do. There is a daily limit, and a weekly limit, the guy who plays 12 hours a day is likely to hit his weekly limit on his second day, you most likely will hit it on the 3rd or 4th. I think you only need to play about 6 hours a week to get all your drops, so it works out well for the player who plays an hour or two every night or two, though it does sort of screw a person who can only play an hour once a week. (Then again, do you want to pander to the players who play 4/7 days or the guy who plays 1/7?)
