Looks epic. Can't wait! Finally a 2.5D/3rd person Metroid game! It's the Metroid game I have been dreaming of since the Super Metroid days. I'm so glad Retro isn't working on this. They totally ruined the series. Team Ninja helping to bring the franchise back to its glory. The haters in this thread can suck it seriously.

I'm actually really GLAD that Itagaki has nothing to do with this. Don't get me wrong, Ninja Gaiden was one of my games of last gen, but I don't see this guy ceding so much control to a contractor/overseer or whatever, it would probably be a huge power struggle and lead to a mess (a la NG2)

As one of the many who was never a huge fan of the switch to 3d, I played and eventually came around to Prime, but saw a good reason to bother with Prime 2: Rehash or Prime 3: Waggle, I am really happy to see them take this in a new direction. The Prime fans have gotten what they wanted and Retro can do something new, and Metroid is now a crazy big deal again. Everyone wins!

The scariest thing about all of this is finding out how many people didn't like Prime.

Prime 1 was great. 2 I never got around to finishing. And never played 3. Don't own a Wii. But come time when Metroid comes out? Hells yeah.

I just realized that there's an invisible chameleon enemy behind them.

Good eyes.

I loved Prime but got tired of it because i got stuck. I got pt 2 as a gift so I gave it a shot and didn't repeat the same mistake of trying to rush on the first go. I eventually beat both. No wii to play MP3 on, but other than that I've tried every other Metroid game.

Are there still people who honestly believe this?! Prime 3's controls are amazing and absolutely trounce those of the first 2

Prime was an amazing experience, Prime 2 missed the boat on the exploration aspect, and Prime 3 was enjoyable mainly because of the new controls and added storyline.

Definitely. I was playing Prime 3 last night (been working through it for months now) and I'm still impressed with how well it controls. And then I think of a Prime game with M+. That would be awesome. Not sure how they could improve upon the controls though

To make the point more explicit - I'm not interested in playing an iteration of Prime whose primary distinguishing feature is its control set.

I dont hate Prime but some of its fans like to pretend metroid started in that series. Most of the people i see whining online seem to be them so it seems so ironic.

Prime and its sequels are very dividing entries in the series, for fans. I, on one hand, loved all of them Prime happened to be my first Metroid, and to me the best representation for Metroid's art style, music, atmosphere, and isolation is found in Prime 1. I don't give a shit if people find it boring or not, they can fuck off. I love that game. I enjoyed Prime 2. And Prime 3 happens to be my favorite Wii game OTHER than Galaxy.

That said, I'm excited for this.

They could start by not pulling control away from you if you point more than 30 degrees from center.

I started Metroid with its very first title, and Metroid Prime is my favorite game.

You know, watching that trailer and looking at Samus' new moves, I have to admit, this seems a lot more fitting for her character's combat abilities than most other things tried so far. I've set my hopium dosage to high for this game. The trailer blew my brain cells out my ass and with Nintendo/Sakamoto on board to oversee things, this can only mean great things. :D

Well as you have already made clear, you are not a fan of the 3d Metroids. I think that has more to do with your indifference toward the game rather than because it's gotten high marks for its controls.

I'm pretty sure that couldn't be accomplished back then. Motion+ fixes that, as far as I've read.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying; M+ would do wonders for Corruption.

Anyone else think that this game would be much more amazing with an M rating? I'm not talking gratuitous sex and violence, but to see that monsters head blow off in the .gif above me when she pile-drives/shoots it would be awesome.

I love the Prime games. 1 and 2 anyways. 3 is kinda eh, due to the ultra-linear level design and stupid shitty friends.

Honestly if there's never a point where you get lost or wonder where to go next, it's not a very good metroid, imo.

nah. excessive violence has never been a metroid thing. i can see how you'd draw that connection, especially with the team ninja involvement and action feel of the trailer, but, god-willing, there'll be some hard sci-fi too. that's always been the heart of the series. you don't need blood and guts busting out everywhere to make something eerie or effective.

Dunno if anyone listened to last night's Listen Up, but they said Jeremy Parish asked about it and the game is by Ninja Gaiden Sigma Team + Nintendo R&D1. Hot damn :o

I don't care what people think this game looks amazing.

EDIT - Man last night was great all of these awesome games announced and revealed and I finally got my Macbook. :D

These words make me tingle.

Was just listening to that. That's the best news.

This game looks really rad but I'm worried that it's not going to be a Metroid game. It looks more like a 3D action game in the vein of Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden. The R&D 1 news bodes well though.

I thought Reggie said they wanted to do an M rated game and picked a team that was very familiar with making M rated games right before the reveal. At least, that's how I remember it, I kind of fainted a minute or so after that.

Actually, I think that the three Metroid Prime by Retro were all amazing games, with the first and the third taking the crown.
But some new approach can only be good for the series and in general, for every series.
In fact, the Zelda series needs really a refreshing that I doubt Aonuma and co. can bring. But, who knows? We'll see.

i'm not 100% either.. but i think reggie said what you said, except replace "M-rated game" with "[something about] good story"

again, it's a trailer. it was probably designed from the ground up to show everything that is going to make this game different from PRIME: the third person elements, the action, the speed boots, etc.

i would be wigging if this were all team ninja. or, as someone else said, if it were itagaki. but the sigma team has done ports in the past--extremely competent, good ports. with r&d1 using that nintendo guiding hand, this could be something really fucking special.

tea tables will be upended.

I loved 1 and 2 but I just don't think 3 was any good. I am glad they are trying something different for the series and after watching the trailer I think it might be my most wanted game right now.

I think he said 'Mature', not 'M-rated'. I doubt Nintendo will release an M-rated version of one of their most famous franchises.

Who says that's Samus in that suite we see? :D I'm telling ya, it's gonna be some sort of MGS2 trip.
