Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

The fact that R&D1 is also behind the game just made me want the game even more. I really want to find my copy of Fusion and play it again.

With Team Ninja.

Which doesn't change the fact I think this looks like balls. The art, outside of the general look of Samus in her suit, just doesn't jump out to me.

I know R&D1 are part of the development, and I know Nintendo will be watching Team Ninja like a fucking hawk, but that does nothing to remove doubt.

I'm also not someone who needs Metroid to be 'isolated', or needs it to play like a 'classic' game. I'm all for expanding the franchise. I'm all for trying new genres and ideas. I love all things Metroid.

This, however, just looks like shit to me. I'm sure it's early on. I'm even sceptical as to how far the game is and whether or not the footage is an indication of how it really looks and plays. But, based on what I've seen so far, I could easily leave it.

Which, for a game in one of my favourite franchises, is very disappointing for me. The cutscenes look fucking retarded. The art looks leagues behind what Retro impressed with. The trailer was all over the place.

If R&D1 and Team Ninja want to throw out a new trailer or media blow-out in six months and knock my socks off then I'll gladly welcome it. But as is I'm not impressed nor interested.

Sucks to be you.

She's the trained mother-fucking protector of the galaxy. Top bounty hunter used by the Federation Government. Pretty sure she knows how to throw a punch.

Maybe I missed something, but during G4s news, they had Tomonobu Itagaki back at Team Ninja working on the new Metroid :lol

This reminds me "metroid being made by a rookie no name studio?, nintendo have lost their fucking mind also its in first person kill this shit metroid is dead etc. etc." we all remmeber how that turned out.

Pretty sure it's one dude, but hell yes they do.
Yeah, Stemage is the main guy, but he works with others. He has a temp(?) band together right now. Apparently they're recording an album and they're going to perform at PAX.

So this makes me want to finally go back and finish Fusion. Here's the thing though, I never beat Super Metroid as I've always had trouble getting into the 2D ones.

If I get Super Metroid off of the VC should I play that first or can I start with Fusion and work my way backwards?

Their Samus looks so much better than Retro's ugly Samus. Retro pretty much sucks at designing human people in general.

I'm going to assume you don't mean Samus in her suit, because Retro's designs, even in the original Prime, seem to be better quality than what I've seen in the trailer.

Their original Samus, before Nintendo decided to animufy it, wasn't half bad.

I didn't mean the suit, I meant her face. And that looks ugly too ^

Their Samus wasn't too bad, though Retro is lacking in the human model department.

It looked western instead of crazy anime. Which was a good thing, imo.

Honestly I thought the characters looked like something Team Ninja would make.

Do you remember the first shots and trailers for Metroid Prime?

:X

That it is a cooperation between R&D1 and Team Ninja peaked my interest tenfold.. and like Fusion? Yes please, I love Fusion. I actually think it is the best 2d Metroid, even better than Super Metroid.

Now. Is the game 3d or is it 2.5d? it is kind of unclear i m o

I want to know more about this game but I know we'll probably have to wait till nintendo october event or maybe later before hearing more. I just want a steady stream of info for it or at least a confirmation on the gameplay before the silence starts. Also I just realized that they didn't show off the morph ball in the trailer. Obviously it'll be in the game but it just kind of surprises me that it wasn't there.

About the appearance of Samus at the end, there are two possibilities: or she is a clone of the original Samus or she is the Samus coming from the future (actually quite unlikely).

There are around some analysis of the trailer. Of course there is no need to create a new thread for them; so I'll post them here.

1. In depth analysis by Gametrailers

Analysis frame by frame

Voilà. Not sure if there are more, but I saw a written analysis somewhere.

Sorry but I find that model horrible, I also find not good their anime one. Both of them suck.

Ill hit that.
And i would hit also the reaslitic model Samus if she was WELL DONE.

I love Prime games, but they need to find human modellers ASAP. I dont mind they are reallistic or anime. You can do VERY good realistic models, but Retro is not the one that does them.

I prefer them to do sensual anime models if the can't do good relistic models. But if they can do realistic ones, i dont mind if they would be anime or realistic.

this was a really surprisingly excellent frame-by-frame analysis, and particularly got me super pumped about how the game is going to play.

To be fair, there is a seperate team working on the CG sequences, this project is quite ambitious with three teams involved.

An interesting quote from the 1up interview

1up interview said:
1UP: I noticed that at the end of the trailer there appeared to be another Samus. What role does she play?
YS: She's not actually a second Samus, but she's a very, very important character within the game.

So i'm lost. I'm starting to weigh the possibility that it was suited samus that said those words.. but i guess they didn't clarify it in the above response, so that's unlikely

Saw it, of some of the things I know more than them :lol

Come on, the first girl is clearly young Samus with the zero manga short haircut and the city is Daiban. And of course is Adam, they even confirmed it in the interview. Get your facts straight if you are going to analyse a trailer.

At least they saw little samus seing her mother get killed by Ridley's ray something i didnt notice the many times I saw the trailer.

Huh. I never thought of it that way. I was seriously on the train of seeing a "Raiden" enter the Metroid universe.

his? :P

the frame by frame thing also didn't pick up on the cloaked enemy during the scene where samus headlocks a lizard and shoots it in the mouth.

and i think the meaning of the plus symbol turning into a multiply is fairly obvious. they're just trying to say that the collaboration is bigger than the sum of its parts.

Wow, I've totally overseen it isn't just "Team Ninja + Nintendo" but actually "Team Ninja x Nintendo"!

Samus takes off 'her' helmet...then takes of his facemask! BAM

In the end they even say they think Galactic Federation Labs. made Samus' chozo suit.
What the fuck, has this guy even played the games.

And they also said the super metroid mother brain scene is probably the end of this game and that is new :lol

However the cloning Galactic Federation labs... that could mean something....
Body research for cloning Samus?

Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuun...

Wait what? when did they say that? or better yet, when in the trailer is that?

The only glimpse of little samus I see is shortly after (3 shortscenes after) adam

Metroid: Other M

M.O.M

Something about another Mother Brain?

someone in this thread brought up the fact that 'other m' could be flipped to say mother. they did say the title had multiple meanings, i guess we'll see.

"You remember me?"

"No, not a clue."

Pretty amusing answer. :) Anyway, it seems nobody knows this guy.

Edit. Interesting the tentative release date. 3.25.2010.

Theres a flash of the face of Little Samus in the trailer.

Surrounded by red light, hair moving from an explosion.

This could mean different things, but the most probable is the Zero Mission manga scene when she watches Ridley killing her mother.

Although could also mean another thing.

One of Adam's soldiers, Sakomoto says it in the interview.
