i hope so

BRING IT

Actually, I played Fusion with the constant fear to find SA-X everywhere, coming out of nowhere. Particularly in sector 5.

and that's the way it should be.

if theoretically they do use the x virus in this game, i sure hope they can do right what retro failed to in CORRUPTION.

Fusion was a GREAT game...but not a great Metroid game. Metroid is about exploration, Fusion they reserved exploration for two things: collecting each and every missile/energy tank, and sequence breaking. Two things which I don't care about. Heck, much of the game was level-based, and they'd even tell you where to go in the level as you started it.

So I really hope that this new Metroid game has true Metroid-style exploration.

Lucky bastard. I went the first 3 years and it was a blast. I need to get out there again. Have fun. Sucks about the missing Metroid though.

Well, they compared it to Fusion, so that worries me a bit. But it's still a great game.

The SA-X fight was pretty pathetic, now that I think about it. Just space jump up to one of the platforms, drop back down, shoot SA-X when it appears, rinse, repeat.

If you're good you can beat it without even getting hit.

still, actual danger and the illusion or fear of danger are two different things. i would almost argue that the latter is better, so far as game design goes.

There wasn't even much in the way of sequence breaking in Fusion. If I recall correctly, the only power-up you can skip is the Diffusion Missiles through a crazy series of shinesparks.

Though I wouldn't say it was as devoid of exploration as you're implying. While they did tell you where to go, there was usually some exploration involved in figuring out exactly how to do so.

So I'm assuming:

Short haired blonde = Samus

Long haired blonde = evil Samus clone?

There seems to be a huge "I am Samus Aran" "No I am" vibe coming from it. And of course, there is the subtitle of the game.

I bought Fusion and Zero Mission combined for a total of $12.

I thought they were both easy, but I really enjoyed them. I loved the end of Zero Mission where
you play as Zero Suit Samus

From the interview:
1UP: I noticed that at the end of the trailer there appeared to be another Samus. What role does she play?

YS: She's not actually a second Samus, but she's a very, very important character within the game.

They tend to use the "+" to mean just "with" and "X" to mean "integrated with".. the idea is that Project M is really a merging of two teams, not two separate teams both working on the game.
Exactly. It's a small difference which the guy in the "frame by frame analysis" didn't know. Simply because it's more a japanese thing.

Goddamnit, I wish people would quit fucking saying this. Everytime there's a game in the series that does something different, people pull out the "Great game, but not a great (series) game" thing.

In the past month, I've heard this on GAF about FFXII, Shadow Hearts 2, Phantom Hourglass, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Mario 64, Mario Galaxy, Dragon Quest VIII, GTA4, and inexplicably Metal Gear Sold Rising.

If it doesn't fit someone's preconceived notion of what the series is, but is still enjoyable, this one is pulled out. You guys don't decide what the series is, the games decide what the series is.

I guess what I'm saying is that anyone who says this is a great poster, but not a great poster about games.

Not to mention that the Metroids have a more diverse feel than most fans are willing to admit. Some people say that the first Metroid was the only "real" Metroid or Super Metroid is what the series should be. And then there's Prime which is a bit more slow and plodding (literally) while Fusion and Corruption are a bit more actiony. So how do so many fans have this idea that such and such wasn't a good metroid when they've all felt different to some extent?

Don't forget Metroid Prime :lol .

No Metroid game is truly bad.

I'd say Metroid Fusion is a good Metroid game and a good game in general. However, as I've mentioned before, it is bottom tier to me mostly because it's just not what I want out of a Metroid game. The extreme feeling of linearity and hand-holding just didn't do it for me, which is why I'd easily put Zero Mission above it.

Acknowledging that something is good, but just not your thing, is better than straight-up saying that a game just doesn't fit well into its respective series.

This needs to be posted in the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow thread. Half the people in there keep babbling nonsensically about how it looks like a good game but not a Castlevania game.

I disagree, NES Metroid sucks :lol . It's almost unplayable for me now, the farming energy is just such a pain in the ass.

But yeah, love ZM (this is one of the most warranted remakes ever IMO), Fusion, Super, Prime - all are great, and other M looks fucking awesome as well.

Actually, exploring the abandoned space ship, I assure you that I was very nervous. I always had the impression that some terrible thing could happen behind Samus's shoulders.

the interview with the R&D1 dude was pretty comforting. exploration will be a big part and, given his roundabout way of talking, i´d guess the game will be largely 2.5 D

Yeah, but I kinda forgive it due to the hardware it was on, as well as the fact that we got a remake.

No Metroid game since the second has been anything less than good, and no non-spin-off game since Super has been anything less than great.

Huh? Corruption is set before the discovery of X. It's the 'Phazon' story arc.

It is a bit weak that there are two nasty substances and both were involved in creating a clone of Samus, but cloning was always a theme in Metroid.

Yeah definitely, I'm sure it was awesome when it came out, but I never had an NES as a kid (and I'm sure I would have lacked the skills to get anywhere anyway)

Metroid might even beat mario for me in terms of sustained quality.

You could probably look at it as weak but I thought both were pulled off pretty well (though I liked it in fusion better.)

we're also working with a company called D-Rockets, led by a director named Mr. Kitaura. In total, with the the three companies combined that make Project M, we have over 100 people on our staff.

Here you have the third company, D-rockets.

Even maybe the main theme of the saga.

Its like Samus want to stops all this clones being done by pirates and the galactic Federation.
From all the Ridleys to the Metroids. Even the X an Phazon Samus.

i know. i was just speaking specifically to the concept of an evil samus hunting you down. i thought the sa-x was handled much better than dark samus, is all i was saying.

A lot better. It got to the point where I didnt even care about dark samus. To be honest MP3 spoiler ahead,
fighting the girl in prime 3 that changes into samus(forgot her name) had more weight behind it than dark samus ever did. She always seemed so...weak, and not worthy lol.

I love the three hunters in prime 3. Never gave a shit about Dark Samus as the main villian of the phazon arch, even from Prime 2. Even Ridley was better handed in Prime (and also 3) as a villiain (but of course, ha have alway been great in all the games, specially in Zero and the manga).

He is the true boss behind all the pirate schemes, not Mother Brain. He even tries a betray in the manga.
