Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

There are around some analysis of the trailer. Of course there is no need to create a new thread for them; so I'll post them here.

Analysis frame by frame

Voilà. Not sure if there are more, but I saw a written analysis somewhere.
"You can see here she´s shapely. But not Dead or Alive shapely. So a nice show of restraint by Team Ninja." :lol

So wait, is this a 2.5D or 3D action game? I'm hearing different things from different people.
i dont think anyone actually knows. it could be on rails with portions on a 3D plane. the lava platforming and the speedboost moment seem to be in 3D given the perspective, but if the plane is narrow enough... could be effectively two-dimensional

sorta weird that they haven´t spoken about this. at least not that i´ve heard

I'm hoping it's 2.5D with forward/backward elements ala Klonoa. It'd effectively nulllify some of Ninja Gaiden's biggest flaws, the camera, and it'd be more true to the Metroid franchise.

He's not too good at analysing. He says her leg clips all the way through while in fact she has her left leg tucked in, almost no clipping at all... Nice to see these kind of things though.

They said they wanted to keep the same kind of exploration as SM and Fusion, so there's no chance of it being on rails...
He meant on-rails in the way that any 2.5D platformer is "on-rails." It wouldn't limit exploration.

I really hope they lean more towards SM than Fusion in the exploration department. Fusion was "go here and explore this confined area" whereas SM was "where am I supposed to go now?"

Yeah, not digging the typical Team Ninja female face design, but who cares? You're going to see her in her suit for 99% of the time anyway. :)

edit: actually waitching that trailer analysis, she's looking pretty fitting in that Zero Suit shot.

Those two games have completely different approaches to exploration. One (SM) has exploration, the other (Fusion) does not. Fuck. This is going to be a Fusion experience in 3D. I just know it.

yeah, exactly. maybe on rails was a poor choice of words, but i dont know how else to express my point. basically, it´s possible that when the game is not side-scrolling and samus is running from foreground to background (or vice versa), narrow environments could guide you through the game, still allowing you to explore in three dimensions, with the occasional 'full 3D room'

it´s amazing that no matter how closely you look at that trailer, it´s still so difficult to determine what kind of plane the game operates on.

fusion has plenty of exploration. you just need to make an effort to do your own thing and break free of apparent restraints, whereas SM and ZM actually require you to explore.

Have you find the secret adam malkovich message?

if it's as polished, creepy, and even as guided as FUSION, i will be so fucking happy. that is a damn quality product.
Definitely, too many people look at the "flaws" of Fusion without looking at the strengths. It's my favorite Metroid after Super and I like that it doesn't attempt to be Super again but rather has its own identity and feel. Really tempted to replay it one of these days.

be sure to strap on your headphones if you do. the game has incredible music and sound effects, but you only get the full experience through headphones.

Especially when SA-X made an appearance. Really adds so much hearing those footsteps coming for you.

I'm thinking about trying it on the "big screen" through Wiibrew to see how it feels in that kind of environment, though the graphics might lose some polish.

this is such an awesome idea that i'm going to start it tonight.

Dont understand. You can only see the face. Are you talking about the hair? Because thats her young hair.
The rest is because she is an anime girl character.

I dont see whats so bad. Other thing is that you dont like that tipe of anime designs.

Wait what? Please explain, I know nothing about this Wiibrew of which you speak but this notion intrigues me.

2.5D is probably the dumbest term this generation.

Actually, second dumbest, behind "AAA."
"Hardcore" and "casual" already share the throne, my friend. I don't see how 2.5D is a dumb term. It's a 3D game that works within 2D constraints.

So I guess calling New Super Mario Wii a Casual AAA 2.5D game would be out of the question...

It's probably just that really.

I should shut up about it or I'll just be trolling. All I feel is that the art direction for everything so far stinks to high heavens, but I'll reserve by judgement until a later date. Really, we've seen sweet fuck all of what the game is going to offer.

Opinions will be saved for another time.

If you have a Wii, you should be able to softmod it and throw some emulators on there (which can be used with the classic controller, remote, etc.). Alternatively you could use the GBA Player for GCN too if you have that stuff.

The process is less complicated than it sounds.

He says at around the 3:00 mark that Samus' leg is clipping right through the purple boss, but it's quite clear that she has her leg bent and both feet are on the monster. It's pretty obvious as it pans round too :lol

I'm skeptical after seeing the announcement video a few times, too much up close wrangling.
it's a flash and sizzle trailer that's meant to be exciting.

would you really want to sit and watch a trailer of samus bombing every visible surface to find a secret?

even if it WERE clipping, the game is still ostensibly a year away.

wahhh wahhh, the unfinished game doesn't look perfect.

Yeah WTF. People are in any way upset that the series is actually continuing? From Nintendo R&D1 + Team Ninja before 2011? I didn't think we'd see another game until then at LEAST. These peeps are crazy.

Isn't "x" basically the Japanese "&"...?

They tend to use the "+" to mean just "with" and "X" to mean "integrated with".. the idea is that Project M is really a merging of two teams, not two separate teams both working on the game.

And thats just what Sakomoto said in the interview.

So "+" is "and" and "x" is "with"? I don't know if this makes much sense in English - in German, it does...

Yeah.. it's really a japanese convention (notice how many crossover games use a "x" - Namco x Capcom, for instance)

In english it tends to only be used for couples in fanfics.

i just realised that maybe it's referring to the X parasite that samus fought in Fusion.

I don't see why people are complaining about Samus' character design. As if she's so much better in MP3 and Smash?

I think it's the amount she's shown without her suit. Zero Suit Samus isn't anything special, but she's also an incredably rarity, especially in the mainline Metroid games.

Here it appears, at least in CGI filmclips, that she plays are larger role outside of her suit. Understandably, the bigger the role the more important and unqiue her character design should be.

Suited Samus looks fine. Unsuited just looks shitty and generic.
