Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

oh well, prime was good while it lasted. hope to see its brigtest star in the action-adventure constellation once again some distant night. until then, i'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to each and every metroid title announced, be that made by tecmo (
and play the fuck out of the wiimakes
).

Dude, we seriously need a link. If true that makes a world of difference.
Damn right. If that's that case, you'd have the best of both worlds. One side for action, one for exploration and atmosphere.

You people are making me sick, ok?

We already had three Metroid Prime that are incredible. Not one; three! So, I think it's time to change. Why not? It looks gorgeous!
Just because someone is unimpressed with this, doesn't mean they want more Metroid Prime. I loved the first Prime game, and enjoyed the other two, but I'm not really interested in more prime games. Other M, however, doesn't interest me very much. The art direction is piss-poor, and the cutscenes will be stupid as fuck. I wouldn't mind a more action centric Metroid game, as long as exploration still played a major role, but I'd prefer something from a team with more talent than Team Ninja.

I'm not completely writing the game off, but this is not exactly a dream game for me. As long as it has heavy exploration elements, and the cutscenes are skippable, I'll probably get this. However, I might be waiting for a price drop.

I think it's awesome that they're doing something different. We've had three awesome 2D games in the style of Super Metroid, and three awesome 3D games in the style of Metroid Prime. I hope they're not done with these styles of gameplay for good, but if they went too long without changing it up, it would become another Castlevania.

I'm curious to see how the new focus on close combat works out.

Looks like you target enemies with the Wiimote and move around with the stick. That could be a cool twist for the series.

*Metroid Press Sheet Update!!

YOSHIO SAKAMOTO (NINTENDO) and Software Planning & Development 1 (Nintendo) are
officially working on the game with Team Ninja!!

Sakamoto and Metroid are back!!
This will help with the canon and elements of exploration but I'm still hesitant about the action. Also, any word on the music?

Kenji Yamamoto did the music for all 3 prime games

Im sure this is a Samus Chronicles.

It tells the Metroid Zero Mission manga. (read it because its awesome)
It retells Zero Mission and Super metroid
It tells what happened next.
It retells Fusion.
And its going to tell Metroid VI

They have left out the Prime stories. And they are so new to us that it doesnt matter.

Kraid, Ridley, Mother Brain, giant Metroids, young Samus, Adam Malkovich...

Bounty Hunter missions PLEASE!

I would guess graphic design, music, and game design from Sakamoto's Nintendo team. Program and animation from left over Team Ninja people. (Those who survived the Itagaki expulsion)

STORY-DRIVEN METROOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDD

Metroid has one of the best universes ever. This game is a Megaton for me!
Definitely! You could make a million Metroid games and they'd all be interesting. It's a huge and very interesting scenario.

I love the melee aspect of this. I always envisioned Samus as Ripley-esque and not afraid to get dirty instead of just standing back and blasting.

Sakamoto confirms the Samus Chronicles.
He wrote the metroid manga.

Excellent cannon things we are going to see in this game folks, just like a fucking Metroid movie.

Can not wait to see Samus' militar friends from the Manga.

Honestly, the only thing i didn't like about the trailer was the amount of speech and the presence of other humans. i prefer my Metroid games to be mute and lonely. i can see the objection to the game -- it really doesn't capture the feel of Metroid at all, but damn if it doesn't look like it might be fun.

Wait... Fusion was Metroid 4... if this is Metroid 6 what was metroid 5?

the third person/first person mix is pretty much exactly how i wanted the series to go.

in that respect, ace in the hole.

After letting it settle in, I still can't make up my mind on this.

I am glad that Nintendo is keeping Metroid alive, though. I would really, really love just one more 2D game for the DS though, that's all I really want out of the franchise anymore at this point. But I'll still definitely keep an eye on this.

Hoping for the best.

And that shows they still believe, my good man. One day we'll get our fabled 2D one on DS.

At the end of the trailer, Samus without the power suit say to "another Samus in the power suit": I'm Samus Aran.

WTH does it mean? Two Samus?!?

Metroid 5 is Metroid Prime. Fusion said it was 4 before Prime was done.

Well, is not strictly 5 but II (the trilogy counts as one saga, also Hunters count in the same saga)

The timeline goes like this, is cannon, ths is not like Zelda or Mario, it has always had a deep backstory behind:

Metroid 0 - Zero Mission manga
Metroid I - Zero Mission
Metroid II - Prime saga
Metroid III - Metroid II: The Return of Samus
Metroid IV - Super Metroid
Metroid V - Metroid Fusion
Metroid VI - Possibly the ending of Metroid - The Other M

Sakamoto has always had a detailed Metroid universe in his head. This game is probably his idea.

Definitely on the wait and see side of the fence. I don't mind them trying something different with the franchise, but damn, i'd like to see another Retro developed Prime style game one day.

I just saw thew video for the second time. It's fantastic. It reminds me what J.J. Abrams did with the Star Trek franchise: an amazing, deep prequel.
What?! :lol

No dude, just no.

It goes like this:
Metroid (Zero Mission)
Metroid Prime 1
Hunters
2
3
Metroid II
Super Metroid (Metroid 3)
Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4)

IDK where Other M will fit in, probably before Metroid.

I'm sure this has been pointed out but the scene with the full-bodied Mother Brain suggests a remake of sorts. Either that or some kind of episodic approach where we go from one game to the next. Anybody else worried about the first person segments? Unless Retro is involved with this aspect I'm afraid it'll come off as forced.

It's somehing difficult to explain. Until now, every Metroid has mantained its old "aura" in line with the saga, which was great.
Now, I have somehow the impression that Metroid will be, let's say, "projected in the future", but talking about the past (it's a prequel).

That's not something I came up after a comparison. It's something that I felt immediately after watching the trailer.

Well, this isn't quite what I was hoping for but this is probably the best thing I can hope for: no more crappy Retro games.

Time to use this fella one last time in commemoration of the return of something actually resembling Metroid (I hope):

I believe he was more surprised by you calling Abrams summer pop-film take on Star Trek. You called it deep, a movie that has more bad science and plot holes than even the old Shatner Star Trek show.

It was well done for what it was, a little slice of simplicity, but deep should not be associated with it.

super exciting, though I'm not sure about the art direction. I don't know if its the bright colors or the models, but something bugged me about the look of the game during the gameplay segments

Pardon me, sir but my list is the real one.
You only took out the mangas (that are cannon, Sakamoto wrote them) and separeted the prime saga. And the prime saga is all part of the same saga. PRIME.
The rest is the same, so I dont know what the fuck are you talking about.

An Metroid The Other M is clearly episodic. There are intros from de Zero Mission Manga, scenes from Zero Mission and Super metroid and some of the samus suits have the Fusion gun, also the ending with two samus shows clearly that the last chapter of this game is probably Metroid VI.
So sorry, buddy.

I almost cried when I saw the trailer. This is what I've been waiting for for over 10 years.

Sorry you (apparently) hated the Prime games, but I'd say the odds of this being an exploration-based action-adventure - as opposed to an action-heavy spinoff - are pretty damn low.

As long as Team Ninja doesn't make any 'enhancements' to Samus, this could be great.

For pete's sake they showed off Samus in the trailer. She has the same proportions as she did in Brawl

My "deep" was simply referred to the fact that the movie was mostly about the background of Kirk, McCoy, Spock and co.

So, from the trailer it seems that this Metroid will talk more about the story of Samus.

i'm confused, at the end of the trailer, the long hair'd blond girl with the clip says 'i am samus aran'

so who is the blond short hair'd girl in the suit that you play?

and who's the black guy that says did you miss me or whatever

That remains me, how do you beat the last boss? I got up to it, but I can't beat. It sounds like you've already beaten Metroid: Other M, so how about sharing some tips with me?
