Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

Dragona has already been caught saying she despises any and all first-person shooters. Take her opinions about Retro Studios and the Prime series with a grain of salt.

Yeah now we'll get a story that seems to have all the intelligence and subtlety of Disaster: Day of Crisis by the looks of it.
what are you talking about? we know nothing about the story. the only reason i'm thinking it's a prequel is because Samus has short hair and seems to be in the Federation military. this is probably between her departure from the Chozo and her rise to fame as a bounty hunter, and because of it, they can explore Samus as a character even more. this makes me VERY watchful of the title, but whether or not it'll be a good story or not can't be gleaned from this meager teaser.

Well, this isn't quite what I was hoping for but this is probably the best thing I can hope for: no more crappy Retro games.

Time to use this fella one last time in commemoration of the return of something actually resembling Metroid (I hope):
I know you dislike the Prime series, but seriously? This looks to be a far more of a departure from the original than the Prime series.

My god. Did you play Metroid 1-3? Back-story is not something the series is known for. In fact, just being dropped into the environment and figuring out the narrative through the embedded narrative is a key aspect of the Metroid series (see the Prime games as another example).

As long as the cut-scenes are very minimal and don't detract from the feeling of immersion (yes, cutscenes detract from immersion in my opinion).
Super Metroid opens with a cinematic featuring some back story, and the first two games both have some considerable back story in their manuals.

I'm not saying every game in the series has to be story-based. In fact, I prefer them to have less story and fewer cutscenes. But considering how Samus' back story has been canon for a while now, yet has never been shown in any of the games, I think it would be neat to have a one off game that delves into that story.

Yes it can, the whole tone and aesthetic screams cheesy melodrama, reminiscent of some poor-quality anime. We won't explore Samus as a character, we'll shoot shit and it will be interspersed with poorly-voiced CG cutscenes and over the top dialogue.

This is a collaboration made in heaven

Body slamming metroids is fuckin legit.

I love the Prime series, Prime 1 is on my top 10 list of games, but this was always more of what I imagined a 3D iteration of Metroid to be, Samus to be a nimble, speedy badass taking on a world of monsters.

If they can nail the action AND keep the immersion and isolation feel from the Prime series, this will be the greatest thing ever.

...where is that sneaky upstart anyways...

Up till now I thought he was a part of this.
He has his own studio now: Tokyo Vikings.

He took a major amount of talent from Team Ninja with him.

TV is currently working on an Xbox 360 game.

Look at those useless assholes in the background, just standing around doing nothing while Samus does all the work.

Someone get a gif of Ridley smashing her against the walls. I thought that was an awesome Brawl reference.

Sakamoto never left. Hasn't he been involved with all the handheld and Prime games?
From what I gathered:

Sakamoto worked on Metroid Prime, not Metroid Prime 2 and 3, instead he went working on his own projects like Metroid Zero Mission. Metroid Dread existed(ended up on a pre-E3 list along with Twilight Princess, Nintendo Tetris(Tetris DS) and another game). Apparently the game didn't make it through the beta phase or something. To make long story short Metroid Dread was cancelled for unknown reasons.

He's involved in this project I think and I guess this would be first high-profile R&D1 developed game in years.

I dunno, if I were them, I'd be happy that Nintendo was letting me work on something besides Metroid for the first time ever.

People who are arguing about not being a real Metroid in feel.... Please, we had 5 excellent, even incredible, and faithfull Metroid experiences in a little amount of time. From Fusion, to the Primes and Zero Mission.

Then Sakamoto wants to do a spin-off were he tells us the universe of Metroid, the backstory, what we never see. He has created this universe for many years, and they gave him the chance now to show it.
This game doesnt mean that original Metroids are going to dissapear. This is only a diverse of the series, a cinematic experience to all the fans that want to know more about Samus as a bounty hunters, were she lives, etc...

There are fans that doesnt like this, thats ok, but dont spoil the party for the rest of us. You've had you classic metroids (I also had those classic, as I love ALL the metroids minus hunters), but now is time for a little change before going back to the (awesome) metroid classic formula.
If you dont like this game, its like a little rest for the saga. If you like it its just more icing in the cake.

So to all the people who wanted to know what does Samus do directly after the See you in Next mission screen, this is the game for them.

One more thing. If Samus existed in real life and had the chozo suit, she will clearly do in the main adventures those kick ass moves.

Some of the people who left Retro may have been upset as they just up and quit over a disagreement with Nintendo im pretty sure it was reported.

Its posible they felt their baby was taken away while the rest were happy to work on something else

You know, the Retro folks are hard at work. We and they wanted to do something different than Metroid, to show their chops in a different area. More to come on that. We don’t have anything to reveal about Retro at this E3 but they are hard at work.
Can't wait!

I have my concerns about Team Ninja after Ninja Gaiden II but I understand that the situation with Itagaki was sticky. Hopefully Nintendo's guidance will work out like it did with Retro.

You're expecting stuff beyond this in videogames? :lol Oh dear.

I love the metroid series, not totally sure what attracts me towards it so much but it's pure love, only problem is that I own no wii and not played prime 3 yet.

I also love how so far this game looks like it has that over-the-top action that dead or alive / gaiden carries but applied to mother fucking metroid! I think this has tipped me over the edge to save up and buy a wii sooner then later (I love brawl and kart but I play that at my cousins enough to not need to own a wii)

So awesome!

WOO! Lets make concrete statements about the story of a game a year away from a few 3 second snippets on an E3 preview! :lol :lol :lol

YOUR TRYING TO HARD!

We need those umad GIF's in these threads. Golden Sun, Galaxy 2, new Metroid, TvC online in the US version with Capcoms netcode, NSMB Wii, FF: CB looks phenomenal, S&P is still coming, and MS just announced fucking Perfect Dark for XBL with 1080P and on fucking line. What the FUUUUUUUCK at this E3.

best part for me is the small sequence where you can see samus using the speed boots from behind.

EXACTLY how i envisioned it

Very Megatonish... I didn't expect this... especially not from Team Ninja.

I just hope it focuses on exploration as much as it does "combo making, space ninja action".
