Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

Totally not the direction I wanted to see Metroid taken. Will pass, 100% for sure, even though I've owned everything Metroid to date in one shape or form.

Is he not the rival character from Hunters? The one that follows Samus at the end of Corruption? I haven't played Hunters, but I've seen pictures.
He looks a little too happy to see Samus to be a rival.

He's all. "REMEMBER ME :D?!?!?"

What bout Metroid Pinball? :) That was an awesome game.

THIS feels like Metroid.

The Prime series felt NOTHING like Metroid.

Anyone saying otherwise didn't grow up on Metroid.

I'm the biggest Metroid fan here and maybe some of you twerps remember, but when Metroid went to Retro and went FPA...every Nintendo fan ws in an unroar...but the Prime series was fantastic and I trust Nintendo with this collaboration because it's NEW, it's FRESH, it looks to be story driven with possible mixes of the past/present/future of the Metroid universe hisory, it looks to have 1ST & 3RD person perspectivs and even some 2D & 3D aspects...and it is back in Japanese hands where it started and you can tell by how it looks. These are all good things to me.

This.

Metroid Prime felt like Super Metroid in 3D. You're off your rocker.

This will be Metroid Chronicles Gaiden as someone else has suggested imo. A flash way to tell Samus' story. Will it PLAY like a Metroid, or just live in that universe?

I personally don't care, but I loved Retros work, I'm sure this'll be awesome too.

A high speed action action game is more metroid than Prime? How are you even judging this?

I felt that prime 1 was incredibly faith to the metroid legacy. From the pacing, to the mode of story telling, to the minimal voices, to the enemy design and AI routines...it was all very traditional. Of course its first person, but that didnt stop it from being handled in a traditional manner...even the lock on made sense. People complained about it, but it made perfect sense because it allowed you to take out enemies VERY quickly, which is important since they just respawn in damn way and they arent the point of the game at all(you can kill enemies all day and not get ANYWHERE in metroid). Now prime 2 and 3(fusion included) started to deviate from the formula with the way their story was told, level designs(progression rather), and such. Still great games, but they did deviate a lot from what tradition metroid was about.

That said, this game looks outstanding so far. The story telling method already has put me off(with the terrible talking) but we dont now much about level progression and design. For all we know, this could very well have super metroid type of level design but with a different combat engine. It could even have a deep story-through-experience type of design like super metroid/prime. If fusion can be accepted, I dont see one reason this cant be accepted...especially since we have seen a raw, uncut clip of gameplay.

This is not Metroid.
That's right.

This is Metroid on crack. The good kind!
God I'm so hyped, this is far better than any Zelda announcement could ever hope to be :D:D:D

I'm a whore for anything Metroid btw.

Er I guess not that one (or hunters on the DS). The video makes the game look like it is just a DMC/GoW clone with Samus as the main character.

I dont like, it goes against everything that stands for the Metroid Franchises.

Well, the basic Plot ist really simple to figure out, too:
Samus does a time travel, went back to some of here best moments, we get to know somethings about here past and the woman at the end of the trailer is here mother:

THE END

The idea of a story-driven Team Ninja game scares me. The "plot" in Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 were some of the most surreal, disjointed things I have ever suffered through.

The plot is done by Sakamoto, not Team Ninja.

Sakamoto is the director of 2D metroids.

Good story... for failing.
Samus mother was never a bounty hunter, and didnt know the chozos until they visited Samus home planet before Ridley ad the Space pirates killed Samus' family and all the citizens there.
Canon, read the zero mission manga.

Maybe is Samus' daughter the end of this game. But I only say this becasue I like the thing of Mother you said.
But that could releate to Mother Brain...

Screw the haters. God forbid we try to be open-minded to a new style. Because Metroid as a FPS was a complete disaster, right? Another Metroid in the same style would have been very tired. We've had 3 already.

I'm looking forward to this just as much as the new Galaxy. It looked slick, and has the potential to introduce a ton of new gameplay mechanics, as well as more fleshed out story and cutscenes.

If the game turns out to suck, just pretend it didn't exist in the Metroid Franchise. But I don't think it will suck at all. This is Metroid. Nintendo won't let it suck. If it could be transitioned to a FPA with spectacular results, then it can do the same here.

I guess there is 0% chance that a new 2DMetroid (Dread) is ever coming out :( :( :(
I was at work all day and was so excited when a friend texted me about a new Metroid. Got home, watched the trailer, and was... underwhelmed. I'm tepid about it. I guess I'm looking forward to it? Maybe.

The trailer makes it look very action-based, very story driven. There is very little ambience, very little exploration immediately present. It could be there. I sure hope it is. But the trailer doesn't indicate that.

i hope they make this game harder, like Ninja Gaiden
the enemies have to shoot you in insane speed and it will force you to run, roll, jump, around or running on wall to dodge!

That's why I'm excited for it. Prime was slow, exploration-driven, and even at its best it put me to sleep unless I was in a boss fight. This is what I always pictured a 3D Metroid to be and I'm completely amazed that Nintendo had the guts to do that since Prime got so much critical acclaim despite being, honestly, just boring as balls.

This reminds me of Super Metroid in every way instead of just a cool adventure game with the Metroid name, and that's making me as giddy as a schoolboy bitch. Day one.

Holy Shit! That trailer was amazing! This is a great turn around since the Prime series was drifting further and further away from Metroid in terms of art direction. This looks like Super Metroid in 3D. Fucking amazing. And the gameplay looks like nothing that's ever been attempted before. The constant changes in camera angles keeps the action interesting. Really excited for this one. :D

Any way, if done correctly, I'm interested. I wonder if we'll even have some moments with Zero Suit Samus, too.
Well Team Ninja is developing it so I would be surprised if they don't include any moments with Samus in her Zero Suit. Even with Ktagaki gone I would imagine his influence still lingers. :lol

can all of you stop being stupid? whether your opinion is that it is or isnt metroid, the game is fucking called Metroid made by Nintendo(
and Team Ninja
and is Metroid whether you think so or not, so none of your opinions matter. its fucking metroid. its fucking awesome. STFU.

Umm... I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate this is only a trailer? I mean, maybe the actual game really is just 2 minutes long.

To Team Ninja's defense, Itagaki was probably the main driving force behind that.

Besides, I doubt R&D1 would allow something completely incomprehensible to come out of this.
