I'm really impressed they gave this franchise to such a talented team of people.

Just remember that you all doubted Nintendo and Retro Studios when Metroid Prime was first shown. Just look at what Metroid Prime turned out to be and how it looked initially.
I always thought Prime was going to be fuck awesome. I didn't grow up with Metroid so I was free from the binds of nostalgia and I can enjoy all Metroid games.
Except Hunters, fuck that shit.

What's hilarious is that people were so concerned about the series going 3D when they first saw it, and now they don't want to leave it.

EDIT: I would also like to point out that the Metroid Fusion was fairly linear and still rocked.

I love Team Ninja's work, but oh man this is like hiring Ted Nugent to play Phillip Glass' music. I don't know if this is a bad thing, this looks like something ridiculous but appealingly so.

I'm sure I'm way late on this anyway, but did anyone see the 3/25 at the top of the screen when 2010 popped up?
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU

I saw it but didn't realize it could be the release date

Uh, you sure about that?

I think you'll find nearly all of GAF want Metroid to be in 2D again.

Has potential I guess, but it's hard to discern what exactly is gameplay in there and what is just canned CG. Also, the graphics are really turning me off. Everything looks plastic. Certainly doesn't live up to Retro's vision of Metroid.

Uhh, it was pretty easy to discern what was gameplay...considering it all had a HUD during it

looks the brainchild of Metroid Dread plus Prime's first interation and Prime's final iteration... I couldn't even DREAM of a game like that, that's what a megaton is in my book :)

Now, how it'll play is a different beast, but the trailer's mixture of CGI and gameplay is fucking sick... again, not even my dreams, a direction I'd rarely expect for a Nintendo game.
Awesome.

Some of older GAF.....yeah. Not the ones who grew up with 3D Metroid, though.

My point is, people are afraid of change.

This still blows my mind seeing Team Ninja making this game.

March 25, 2010 might be the day I get a Wii.

Why march 25? The game has no release date except "2010".

Oh I just saw this:

Made me think this would be the release date.

Change isn't always good though. Just look at Hunters.

That said, nothing about this trailer worries me too much. I have faith in Team Ninja, especially if Nintendo is really involved in the project.

"Remember Me?" guy has such a retarded look on his face that he holds the entire time his visor is opening... cracks me up every time :lol

Anyway, I am soooo unbelievably excited about this game. The Metroid universe is thebestthebest!

Quick stupid question: What's with the "I'm Samus Aran" line at the end of the trailer when she sees the scientist lady? Seems like there is something deeper going on with that moment that we are suppose to infer (since the trailer ends with it), but it kinda goes over my head? =/

Team Ninja and Nintendo will make this game rock.

Team Ninja need to reprove themselves now that Itagaki is gone, and I am sure they don't take lightly the task of taking on one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. And Nintendo will give Tecmo whatever nudging they may need.

I just hope the speed boost indeed makes a comeback. We need a revival of the sense of agility / speed that we felt in Super Metroid.

Hell, from what I gather, seems to be TWO of them.

That was actually my first thought but I figured I was just imagining things. :lol

Now I went back and rewatched it, and she does seem to be sporting one of Samus' hairstyles from Fusion??? O.o Is it the scientist lady that says "I'm Samus Aran" or a voiceover? (Since Samus' mouth doesn't appear to be moving behind the visor when it's spoken)

Story in this game is gonna be so cwaaazy!

I think it's "Samus" that is introducing herself, but I have a feeling she's a clone of Ms. Lab Coat (also probably Samus), which explains the look and discomfort Ms. Lab Coat shows...

Putting story in Metroid should be a crime.

Boo.

Metroid Fusion began to tease us at the possibility of Metroid with a story, and it was awesome.

If you took the effort to scan everything in the Prime games there was some awesome story there, too! The Metroid universe is RIPE with amazing story possibilities.

There's been story in all of them...
Just not deep rooted and in your face (besides Fusion and the Primes).

Metroid's always had a story, you just never read the instruction manuals...they include a pretty detailed account...

I believe he means "typical" story telling method.

Doesn't the opening "cinematic" of Super Metroid give you chills? That's technically the beginning of a story, right? Just imagine more of that. :D

Waht? C'mon. This is a good chance for them to really show who Samus is in more ways than one. Nintendo is atleast gonna be apart of it that way.

is nintendo capable of making games with decent stories? i've never played earthbound which might be an exception, but it seems that they're really lacking in that department...

My random theory: the in-suit Samus is a fake Samus, sort of like SA-X or Dark Samus, except not a villain this time. The computer that flashes before the two women meet face to face says "Living body arms development labs," so I think the "suit" could somehow be a doppleganger of Samus.

Samus says "I'm Samus Aran," as if she's introducing herself to someone who's confused, someone who doesn't know her. A clone?

I love the variety in the Metroid franchise (or any franchise that has variety really). Many people complain when things change, but with Metroid, every games has its thing, its place. Metroid Prime 3 does not make Metroid Prime 1 obsolete, Zero Mission doesn't make Super obsolete. They're like diferrent flavours, rather then refined versions of the same flavour.

Heck, even the closest thing to a black sheep in the series, Hunters, was a classy little game that oferred something diferrent but maintained the tone and atmosphere (it did have its flaws, but I still enjoyed it a lot). Many disliked it for not being the same as Prime, just as many disliked Prime 3 for not being the same as Prime. Ironically many disliked Prime for not being the same as Super. It's like cults develop each time there's a change. I love them all and appreciate them as part of a whole more then if they were all the same.

Compare this with, say, many EA, Ubisoft or Activision titles, where apart from story the sequel makes the original obsolete. Most companies seem to have a 'sports games' like approach to sequels.

So this gets the thumbs up from me, as a die hard Metroid fan. Retro did the series proud, but want to do something else, I hope some of the main people are consultants though. But I do love the series being back in Japanese hands, hoping NCL keeps involved to maintain the mythos competently, although having Adam already shows someone knows what they're talking about!

Itoi is a professional writer and essayist though. Nintendo hasnt done anything else as nuanced as Earthbound or Mother 3.

Also I cant believe so many people jumped on me after all the bitching about MP3 and the fact that its Team Ninja deving it...

:lol

It's such a weird moment. The way it's said... the creepy look on labcoat's face... the moment when labcoat is looking out the window at Samus (who is kneeling over... what? A body?)... hmmm

BTW teen Samus is a hottie patottie!

Or maybe the development lab was for Mother Brain?....I'm really confused now btw.

The entire thing is very surreal :lol

I think it's safe to assume that "Other M" is an anagram for "Mother," probably referencing mother brain. It's an awkward title. Interesting to note that the game abbreviates to "MOM."

Maybe the scientist designed Samus in her image? I'm picturing that scene as an introduction of creator to created.
Yeah, that's exactly how I see it.

"Living body arms development lab"---could be more than the suit.

Truth.
I normally hate short hair on a girl, but Samus can work it.
