Team Ninja & Nintendo - NEW METROID on Wii!

This should be interesting not just because it's a new style Metroid game, but as a gauge of quality for the new Team Ninja, which should be considered as an unknown quantity at this point. It wasn't just Itagaki that left, all of his leads left with with him as well.

However I doubt Nintendo would just hand off a property with the pedigree of Metroid without knowing what they were getting into.

I do remember him!

It looks like this game will take place during many different time periods and try to tie every game together. I wonder how they would incorporate the classic Metroid style of upgrading to reach new areas if you're just playing flashbacks though. I guess they could just keep the upgrades you get in each flashback exclusive to that time period. That is if they even have any of that stuff. This could totally be a Metroid May Cry with nothing but ass kicking and and cut-scenes.

Regardless, I think it looks awesome and I totally want to see the story unfold.

no, i think he's talking about the one where she's standing on the ground and got the thing in a headlock and shoots into its mouth at point blank.

THEORY:

After Fusion, Samus went into hiding. The Federation, realizing that Samus was a badass motherfucker who did everything for them because they're incompetent assholes, decided to clone her to make another one. As we know from Fusion, they keep the memories of higher ranking officers stored somewhere, so why not the memories of badass bounty hunters? So the game takes place through a series of flashbacks as they upload Samus' memories into fake Samus... until fake Samus somehow encounters real Samus.

Or something.

...But it's probably nothing like that at all.

Ooooooooooo!

Good point as they have log upload points all throughout the games.

I would imagine a story set after Fusion would involve the Federation trying to track Samus down so they can extract her metroid DNA. I do think this game is set after Fusion, with flashbacks, and may involve clones, though.

oops, beaten, i'll post this instead. :P

I just noticed something with some kind of optic camouflage just behind Samus in the scene with that lizard....

He has his own studio now: Tokyo Vikings.

He took a major amount of talent from Team Ninja with him.

TV is currently working on an Xbox 360 game.

Thanks, no word on what it is?

Very interesting, really didn't see that one coming.
Gameplay/graphics reminds of one of those old cg trailers/commercials/teasers made for one of the metroids games.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. The gifs are amazing. Did anyone take them as avatars yet? If not could someone avatarize them for me. I need an upgrade on my avatar. Had it for over 2 years I think.:

EDIT:Avatarize the one where the thing gets shot in its mouth after a slam. Thanks.

Not entirely sold yet. I can see how the 3D could work a lot better than the first-person alone that they used for the Prime series... I'm not totally sold yet, but it at least seems like it'll be a bit closer to the classic, superior 2D games.

The problems are many, however. It looks a bit too focused on story with far too many scenes of Samus out of her suit, talking to people, tons and tons of backstory. Feels almost like Metal Gear Samus which, well, I take as a bit of a bad thing. Second, as others have said, the combat looks a bit too Ninja Gaiden-esque to me. Not so much the classic style, but a lot more hand-to-hand and a general overall "extreme" feeling to it that isn't sitting very well.

I'm giving it some time to go along and waiting for a finished product before passing complete judgement on it, but I'm not entirely happy with what I'm seeing.

Oh and what's with showing the second Samus and titling the entire thing "other M"? It feels like they basically just gave the entire plot away already. Not too subtle.

That doesn't mean you need to change it. If anything changing your avatar often makes it harder to identify you. I've been using this one basically everywhere online since, hmm... 2000 IIRC. Been using my handle since '95.

THIS feels like Metroid.

The Prime series felt NOTHING like Metroid.

Anyone saying otherwise didn't grow up on Metroid.
Disagree. Been playing Metroid since the first one, and I honestly feel that both this AND the Prime series feel like Metroid. I think the only game in the series that doesn't feel like Metroid is Fusion, and only because it was so bland and linear.

will this be ok?

I think they should remove the M from the title and just call it Metroid Other. I know I don't know what the title means yet, but that just sounds much nicer. And it fits with the Metroid Prime/Fusion/Zero Mission type naming convention better, which is what I think the series should have kept using all along (Metroid Echoes, Metroid Corruption, Metroid Hunters...).

Can you post the other one again? Yours seemed to be better quality.

I bet it's just a placeholder. Other M just doesn't sound like a proper subtitle.

I wonder if this Project M has anything else up it's sleeve or if it's just this.
I think there is more since it says "Project M presents...". If Project M was only this, I doubt they would mention it all.

Just watched it again. Anyone else think this game plays mostly on a 2d plane? Along with a lot of camera movement depending on the move you are doing or the weapon you are using. So it switches to a different angle or even first person at times.

edit:wow beaten badly by KevinCow. 2.5d post
Can not wait. Its going to be structured just like an old school Metroid most likely. Shadow Complex doesn't look as sweet as it did yesterday. Will still buy it on PC though.

honestly this game saved nintendo's conference for me, or at least stopped it just short of being a complete failure.

the mario galaxy sequel was nice, but didn't get me excited.

when i saw 2.5D metroid.... i jumped out of my skin.

otherwise nintendo had nothing for me.

Are you really picky about genres or something? No interest in Dead Space, Sin & Punishment, etc?

Or are we talking about what was shown at the actual conference (and not in the booths).

I'm not berating you or anything btw. I'm just curious. This year and next year look really great on the Wii to me, but I still see quite a few people saying there are "no games" and things like that, which seem kinda silly to me.
