i always thought the newbie rule was to be a medic and follow others around until you got used to the maps?

Baha said:The problem atm is not that f00l got a wrench but that he and 2 other friends got them by predicting drop times (There's a sourceop thread for this). If this is true then what it means is that every craft DOES NOT have a chance of getting a golden wrench but rather only crafts at a specific time do. I really hope this isn't true but the coincidences and the threads about predicting drop times (with some accurate predictions even) are leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Not much you can do about sentries though. Well, maybe the home-wrecker. I've never used it . . . is that any good? Pretty hard to take out a sentry with a Pyro. Kinda need a soldier or demoman for that.

Well, you craft away all of your items and then someone else gets one but yeah that's the ideaMonthOLDpickle said:You get the wrench crafting items?

Everything from putting out fires, to deflecting rockets(Specifically waiting for the Krit med to go at it), to blowing away the invic med from the one he is invic-ing, to locking up dead ringer spies, to blowing back charging demos, etc. :lol

If you wanna go for specific things.
The wrench has a random chance of being crafted OR you have to craft at exactly the right time OR both.
Whatever the case, there is no specific blueprint for the golden wrench.
BUT WHAT TIME?
Then does it really matter that you get the wrench if you hardly play?MonthOLDpickle said:Well I am doomed. I barely have anything to craft with. Even after owning the game for couple years I only got like 43 hours (when they started tracking stats/time).
Well, something is wrong on your end (likely memory), because despite having reset my stats, I got the right date. Sep 19 2007.MonthOLDpickle said:Would have been nice but its stat tracking is weird.
For example when that award for when you started playing was really off for me. I didn't start playing this game in 2010.

I'm hoping for building personally.
steampowered.com, account details on the top right. If it's a different date on there from your medal, then I have no clue what went wrong!MonthOLDpickle said:Where? Cause my friend couple years back got me the Orange box. Which I added to steam. Since than I play it on three different machines. I got an medal for getting it in supposedly at the end of 2009..which is not true.
I was in a new office by than and I received the game in my old office. On my birthday. It doesn't even say my birthday.
I can only find hours played....where do I find it?
Twig said:Ironically, I'm going to the beach on Friday and won't be near my desktop on Thursday, so I'm going to completely miss the update's first two weeks. Man, that's making me kind of sad. D: WHAT IF THEY ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING AFTER THE UPDATE?!
Nothing can top the WAR update. NOTHING! This feels "small" and meh so far. Hopefully we get surprised by Meet the Pyro on Thursday at least.Twig said:You know, this update is pretty disappointing, golden wrench aside.
Well, no, actually it's pretty disappointing BECAUSE of the golden wrench. I loved the War update, it got me playing a lot more than I had been and was a lot of fun and there were friendly rivalries.
This golden wrench thing, on the other hand, has gotten me to... start idling again. If there was SOMETHING... some IN-GAME event, I would love to jump in and play. As it is, though, I'm just waiting for the actual update to be released before I start playing again.

I have around 1200 hours and there's also no chance in hell I'll be getting one.
My plan is to craft all of my remaining materials after an hour has passed before a certain lucky numbered wrench.
It will only be a blessing if there's no "event" to go along with it. Besides, I always enjoy the post-update chaos.Javaman said:Count your blessings that you won't have to experience 12vs12 engineer stagnantfests.

Maybe the "event" will be more post-update. Maybe something to stem people from all being Engie.Twig said:It will only be a blessing if there's no "event" to go along with it. Besides, I always enjoy the post-update chaos.
I could've sworn Valve had said something in the past about wanting to make the engineer update as popular as the soldier/demo update, but all this is doing so far is making people waste time crafting.
Mrhh.
I suspect something else is in the works and I'm going to miss it. \:
Proven said:Oh. I see all the discussion has moved to this thread. Well then, here's my late impressions on the Wrangler:
Thoughts on the Wrangler.
I hated all those ideas of "How about letting the Engineer jump into his sentry and aim at stuff!" Well, those people got their compromise.
The Wrangler is a defensive Engie's dream. You can probably use it all the way from resupply. You can use your sentry to spy check. Your sentry now has infinite range and can make use of rocket splash to root out enemies around corners. You can aim at people's feet when they uber rush you and pop them into the air yourself during the next rocket volley.
The stats are incredible. Double bullet speed means literally twice the firepower at level 1 and 2, and at least 1.5 at level 3. 66% damage reduction means only a third of damage taken, which means that you have a chance of surviving an uber, as it now takes at least 6 stickies to blow up your level 3.
Personally, when it was unveiled yesterday I was disappointed, but now I think even I might use it. Still, it's a very defensive weapon, simply because it leaves your body defenseless when you use it, and you can't heal or reload your sentry without help. And you'll have a disadvantage against Scouts. However, you will be able to keep up with sentry spinsters.
My sentry will now glow with an awesome power...
They could have done a lot of things to make this better.fallengorn said:Maybe the "event" will be more post-update. Maybe something to stem people from all being Engie.
They should've done something like keeping a counter on how many times goldrush point 3 gets blown up and tying that into the whole Australium thing. And have a system where successfully defending it gets you the GW while successfully blowing it up gets you something else.
