TF2 Engineer update incoming?

As someone pointed out, they took away people's unlocks for a couple of days when they used the unlocker (at least for scout), and I thought that was fair. I seem to recall the blog insulting them heavily as well, which was funny.

The achievements are actually pretty fun. I can't understand people farming them. It only takes a couple hours of normal play to get all three milestones anyway.
I seem to recall it taking me forever for the demo (I'm a bad demo and it's hard until you get the eyelander etc.), and possibly a good while for a couple of the other classes too. It's tough for me if I only have 3-4 hours to play in an evening, and I'm afraid there's going to be some overpowered weapon only available for a day or two that I want to try. ;_;

Also, Javaman's argument was that if you have 8v8 or 12v12 engineers on a normal map, how are you going to get your achievements "normally", and who is going to find that a lot of fun? We'll probably have those kinds of numbers anyway when people want to try out their weapons. I figure on an achievement map, people can at least be goofing off and you can get them "legitimately" that way without actually coercing other people into being your targets as much. Does that make sense? If you do a little working together with people it's not the end of the world either, and seems even more part of the game than an achievement unlocker program or an external idler to me. *shrug*

All valid points!

I'm more arguing from the perspective that actually trying to get the achievements in normal play is fun (more fun than new weapons in many cases). I tend to just wait a week or so until things have calmed down and then through the course of normal play am able to go through them.

I still don't have 90% of the achievements.. it's just not how I play.

thus I only have unlocked 5-6 new weapons so far.

:(:(:(:(:(

I'm not gonna cheat though. that's even stupidiester

I have 37% of them with 72 hours played. Just got Fire Chief yesterday, fuck yeah. Now will be playing Engy to death for the next few days. Was sorta my secondary class anyways. Sorta.

I was trying to craft some scrap metal into reclaimed metal or whatever it is, it waits a bit and says crafting server unavailable, my game freezes, and then when I log back on all my scrap metal is gone.. mega lame.

edit- nm, just got my reclaimed metal!

Did they say *which* Thursday we'd be seeing the Engineer update on? I'm just wondering if Valve are cruel enough to leave a week before wrench #100 dropped...

Edit: And *as soon* as I say that, we have #100!

I was actually going to post a bit of whimsy suggesting that Thunder Mountains could possibly lead to a (loosely) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad styled Payload map. I never got around to it. I really should have, I'd have seemed psychic.

SQEEEEE! MINI SENTIRES!

...*cough* I mean...um...*gruffly* that sure is cool, alright. I can't wait to get one and do many things, like kill people with it.

So, it doesn't actually say it anywhere, but does anyone else get the impression that you'll be able to drop multiple mini-sentries? Like, have two out at once or something?

Just remembered the pictures with the engineer moving the sentry
whatsupwiththat

Apparently it's a normal sentry gun that's being moved somehow according to this achievement:

If You Build It, They Will Die
Haul a level 3 sentry gun into a position that achieves a kill shortly after being redeployed.

No way the gunslinger is supposed to replace the pistol, it's gotta be a wrench replacement.

that's odd, because that's exactly what it says :P 'pistol replacement'.

also, i REALLY hope the update goes live in 15 minutes.

It must replace the wrench b/c you can't upgrade the sentry...but that won't let you upgrade the dispenser or teleporters.

they still want you to provide your team with offensive power in the form of L3 teleporters and dispensers

At least 2 since it states mini-sentries. I'm assuming a max of 3 since there's 3 lights(?) on the wrist of the Gunslinger. Plus, things usually come in threes.

Wow that really makes me want to play an engineer from now on instead of soldier / sniper. Sounds like it could be a ton of fun.
