A film based on No Man's Land would be cool but impossible. What made that story so good though was almost all the characters/villains were present - and they had already long been established obviously. So far in Nolan's batman universe we have Scarecrow who is no longer threatening, a dead Two Face and a Joker that can't be used again.

If anything from No Man's Land could come over, it's probably this scene

A pretty cool theory that might predict the villains for The Dark Knight Rises:

It's from imdb, (yeah, I know) but still pretty cool coincidence that there seem to be hints in each movie as to the next movie's villains:

In Batman Begins when Bruce is telling everyone to leave his party he says "and for all you two-faced friends" and then there's the obvious joker card at the end.

In The Dark Knight lucius says that his suit "should do fine against cats" also in the robbery scene when joker says "whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger" and the last hint is the prisoner on the ferry's tattoo of Black Mask.

So according to the hints the villains in TDKR SHOULD be: Hugo Strange, Catwoman (not really a villain) and Black Mask

Definitely a possible mix of villains.

Why are we all overlooking the real issue here?

The Batvoice. I swear to god, they better hire Kevin Conroy to dub Bale when he's in the Bat suit. Because quite frankly, I couldn't stop laughing at times. :lol

THISSSH SHITTY, IS FULL OF PEEHPUHL.

"You have some fight in you. I like that"
"THEN YOULL LOVE MEE!"
*punch*

"I don't know I swear to God"
"SHWEAR TA MEEEE"

"Whats the difference between you and us?"
"I DONT WEAR HOCKEYPADZ"

I think the voice is supposed to be ridiculous. Can you imagine those lines delivered in a smooth fashion from the likes of George clooney or val kilmer?

So true :lol, although to be frank, I don't think most people notice. I remember commenting on Batman's goofy voice after I saw the TDK, and one of the friends I had seen the movie with was like "what do you mean? Batman *has* to change his voice to be different and it sounded cool" Whatevs.. Obviously Bale, and Nolan are fine with it. Maybe they're deaf to the lisp or something being from the UK

Easily the most cringeworthy scene in the film. Just plain terrible. Ledger is tearing it up and then all of a sudden shitty Bale acting/dialogue out of nowhere!

It would be simple to fix too. Talk to Luscious(?), get a voice adapter thing, then start talking with a British accent. It'll totally throw people off.

They'll think Batman is Christian Bale and not billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne.

I'm sure this has been discussed already, but why didn't they just call it Rise of The Dark Knight'? 'The Dark Knight Rises' just sounds silly...

As much as I've liked the Nolan Batman films, I don't really like his universe as a setting for continued Batman films.

If he's really going to keep everything realistic, then that eliminates a lot of the rogues gallery. Off the top of my head, Bane, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Man Bat, Catwoman (at least the kind of Catwoman that I'd like to see), Killer Croc, and at least a few others are disqualified.

So aside from Two-Face (apparently dead), Joker (unusable now) and The Ridder (who won't be used), there aren't many A-list villains left. Shitty villains like The Mad Hatter, the Clock King, Scarface or Lockup aren't going to cut it. Black Mask would be good, but I can't think of a whole lot of others. Maybe Penguin as a deformed gangster?

That's why I was hoping that Nolan would just keep it realistic for a film or two and then gradually start to explore the supernatural or sci-fi elements of the Batman universe. It wouldn't have to be anything too ridiculous. With a character like Catwoman you could have her appear to do supernatural things and leave Batman and the audience unsure of whether she actually has superpowers or not.

As it is, the Batman universe as portrayed by Nolan is pretty limited and not well-suited for a long-running story. We're getting to see how Batman got his start, but where does he go from here? What would Batman Year 5 in the Nolan universe look like? Would he still be fighting against the mob?

"The Bat Man" should have been the title of the first one.

"Batman Begins" was a lame title.

The Dark Knight Rises is pretty awful as well.

I would be fine with them making a title without "batman" or "knight" in it. audiences aren't as clueless as the studios think, they will know if a new Batman movie is coming out.

I can imagine the lines delivered well by Keaton...

Bane is pretty believable since he's pretty much a thug that is drugged up all the time, and Two Face in TDK cleared away the awful version in Batman Forever so I think they can do the same with Bane. Most people don't even know who he is anyway. Provided he isn't throwing cars or something at Batman I think they could use him. They could also use Catwoman but she can't have nine lives and they have to stick to her being a burglar and a love interest. But honestly no one can top Michelle Pfeiffer in hotness or awesomeness in Batman Returns so I wouldn't bother with Catwoman for that reason. :lol

I think they have the ability to adapt anybody to this world that doesn't have superpowers. They've done pretty good with Joker, Scarecrow, & Two Face. I could easily see Riddler, Penguin, & Bane too.

With Riddler out, I would be interested in either having a woman as the bad guy or black guy. It's Chicago like for goodness sake, there should be a black villian every once in a while (Wesley Snipes ftw. Help him pay his taxes). Nolan seems to double up the villians so there could easily be two of them.

Given the title, I can definitely see the film revolving around The Penguin as a mob boss who propels the grimy underworld of Gotham to overtake the city. Batman, his image tarnished and the city overrun by crime, must "rise from the ashes" to restore order, regardless of how the public sees him.

Batman still can't see anything.

For some reason, I read that in Elmo's voice. :lol

I hope to god that it won't be Penguin. Tim Burton's penguin traumatizes me to this day.

His catwoman was fucking hot though.
We will probably get a catwoman this time. And it should be Sarah Polley, Tricia Helfer.

In order for there to be a suitable Catwoman, they would need to have training close to Batman's unless they figure out a way to realistically reincart someone by cat CPR.

They can do it, but it will be interesting how they come about it. I was amazed by their handling of Joker in the real world, so that's part of the fun of these movies is how they get a real world version.

Penguin could be some gangster with a French name or something, Pingouin, and prone to wear tuxedos. He tries for a hostile takeover while secretly controlling the Gotham underworld. No real birds though except maybe a lapel pin or something.

Yeah, I'm out of ideas and will just sit back and wait.

fuck heath ledger was good in the dark night

yes its a funny batman voice but hes playing second fiddle to the joker in that movie

"The Penguin" can just be his mobster nickname. A huge amount of mobsters/gangsters have weird or otherwise seemingly mocking nicknames.

I wonder if they will tone down the voice for the next movie. They have to know how people feel about it. On the one hand its pretty annoying, but on the other, I feel like I would kinda miss it.

That would be really cool. Whether or not I want those villains in the movie, I would be impressed if they've been planning the movies like that.

The only thing I know to expect from this movie is some sort of new fashioned voice modulator, a la TDK's new Batsuit. Then there will be nothing left to nitpick!

There are a couple of times when the voice modulation goes way too far in TDK (mostly when he's already screaming and the modulation makes it sound wtf), but I absolutely love the voice in Begins.

SWEAR TO ME!!!!!

Very good post, dude. I feel the same way. I am actually looked forward to another 'vision' of the Batman universe in a few years. A vision from someone with a bit more visual flair and sense of style.

It's definitely not the best but... as long as Batman doesn't have a lot to say, it isn't bad. Its cringe-worthy when he sounds out of breath (like in that joker scene) but at the same time, realistically, he probably would be out of breath after all that crazy fighting he just did.

That's probably the same kind of thinking Schumacher had with his movies.

Totally. Bale in TDK was acceptable at best, but Bale in Begins is a rather fantastic performance. Bale in Batman Begins > all other Bruce Wayne/Batmans from all of the previous movies.

Its not a good post. Puddles is simply asking for more out worldly, zany, batnipple bullshit from Schumacher movies. If you really wanna see killer croc, mr freeze, clayface or other dumbshit villain, your universe is Joel Schumacher's. There's your vision with a bit more visual flair and a fucking sense of style. smh. Me, I'm fucking tired of that crap. The shit was clogged up so fucking high in the bowl it started overflowing and flooded the entire basement, and the plumber was on a leave. Nolan had to come and bring the plunger and plunge all that slimy, smelly, toxic shit down the hole with his bare hands, and now you want that same shit again? NO. NO NO NO. Thousand times over! You have no idea how glad I am the poopstains from schumacher movies was finally wiped away and in place is a franchise that can finally be taken seriously. A batman movie we've all been waiting for. I love each and everything about Nolan's batman: batman's voice, mythos, lines, rachel, everything. I'm glad as fuck I'm in a universe that Christopher Nolan created Batman movies.

I've actually grown to prefer his deeper voice in TDK. In Begins he has this raspy rat-like tone to it, and after watching TDK so many times I just don't care for it.
