Looks like a rental at best.

:lol Are you serious? Of the two (there are more but I only have a 360) releases this week The Darkness is definetly the buy; Overlord is the rental.

You getting the PS3 version in? I called a couple of Gamecrazy's near me and they actually have it already, but only the 360 version.
Honesly I havent heard anything about the PS3 version at all really in store and online. It seems like the most exclusive-non-exclusive game out there.

Hey guys, I have a question for you.

Have you seen any screenshots online with the most important main characters in the game yet? (Jackie, Jenny, Paulie etc)

I kind of need them for an article. :) Thanks.

I wish they would hurry up and do a comparison of the two versions. Also as awesome as there saying this game is there should have been a demo up on live a week ago. I just don't get that.

Yeah.

Forget all the features that don't matter much. I'll be grabbing whichever one holds 30fps LOCKED without screen tearing for the most amount of time.

Future Shop and Best Buy in Canada have the game listed for today and of course none of their stores have it in.

Got my Darkness preorder bonus- If you want to unlock an exclusive darkling just dial 555-GAME into any pay phone located in the subway. Still have to wait until tomorrow to buy the actual game though.

That's it? No unique serial number? Good to know. Though I was going to buy it at CC for $50 anyway, and move my Gamestop preorder money to Overlord or something else.

Is that the 2K Sports Darkling with the baseball bat?

An 8/10 too high for The Darkness? :lol :lol

Feels limited? What do you mean? You can handle every situation in the game the way you like, with a lot of options open for you: gunplay, darklings, creeping dark. Limited is TOTALLY the different word for this, really.

Nope it's very limited, Did you even play the same game? For a city like new york they sure did a very small scale it, you see a map but you can go to 4 or 5 places with each 4 or five small streets. The darklings are really dumb and and they glitch very often, have you gave them a command when they have to go op or down a stairs? they can't and wait till you go first and somethimes they don't come at all. Creeping dark is a pain to control unless you stick to the ground.

Mesijs said:
Stupid AI? Ehm, first of all the AI is never ever dumb or something like that. And well, they search for cover and hunt you down when you retreat, so that's ok. Can you give any example of the stupid AI anyway?

How about you can walk straight up to them even when they know you're coming?(probably done for the quick kill mechanisme) , very often they leen too far around the corner but you can't hit them because of the "invisible wall", sometimes they kill you real quick and sometimes it's very easy to kill them. They don't go after you to find you, only in the restaurant where the ai of the swat was scripted to breach inside. Again very limited you have to wait till they come in and only then you can go outside.

Mesijs said:
Stupid game mechanics?? :lol :lol You're really going too far here man. And also, you just say it and don't give any examples.

I gave an example above, there are way more but don't want to spoil it for the others.
Also use more smillies next time, it make you so smart.

Mesijs said:
Ehm, the Otherworld is not bad. Yes, in the beginning you're searching a bit where to go and they could have handled it better, but from the allied village on it's just great, fantastic, atmospheric.

Holy ****ing shit don't even defend the outworld crap, what the HELL was that. Maybe atmospheric in the trenches but after that not so much. ?Fantastic? stop smoking crack please...

Mesijs said:
Darkness powers limited? Well, you can't move planets and such, like Starbreeze wanted first, if that's what you mean. And Creeping Dark has some minor issues but overall it's great. I use it a lot to scout ahead and sneak up to enemies. It's so satisfying.

No the creeping dark just plain suck unless you stay on the ground, if starbreeze really wanted that and passed on it i'm even more pissed. Only the tentacle is useful you don't need the other powers once you have it.

Really, I think it must suck to dislike a game like this so much. Is it just that you don't like the genre or what? I can't think of any other rating than 9/10 for this game. It has a few minor issues but overall it's a wonderful, atmospheric, polished, satisfying, GREAT action game. And I actullay think that most of NeoGAF will think the same when they get the game.

I love the genre, Have you even read the comic? The problem is you see past it's flaws and i can't. What gaf thinks about it? don't care.. i'm just giving my honest opinion. If you liked it that's great for you, but i just can't recommend this game to everybody especially since the single player is short and replayability is next to none.

Good Christ this game is spectacular... it's like every hour you play it triples in awesomeness. I am 7 hours in now so the game is officially 21 awesome!!!!

Why the hell are they delaying it in Europe?! My first thought was that they had problems with the PS3 version but it's out in US?

Euro sale -1. Good job.

Localization or rating problems would be the only feasible reason I could see for a delay.

I got a copy at Game Center, downtown Toronto at Yonge and Bloor but I haven't played it yet. Looked like they had quite a few copies, PS3 version included. Toronto-GAFfers may want to go down there if you can't find it elsewhere, I'm just happy I was working downtown and had half a day off to go down there. :)

You think you had the day off, but you will work your thumbs to the bone today posting impressions for Gaffers.

dammit i just wanna find out if the ps3 version supports 1080p upscaled. if it doesn't then i'll get it for 360.

As far as I know...if it is not native 1080p than the PS3 will not upscale it. At least that is the way it works for me. I don't think I am missing a setting somewhere, my PS2 games and DVDs upscale just fine.

but doesn'tt the software just hsve to support the scaling like some other ps3 games do? i know nothing about this knida stuff other than a handful of ps3 games support 1080p.

I think the games you are referring to are 1080p native. That means there's no upscaling involved. If you have a 1080p TV odds are the scaler in the TV is perfectly fine and you wouldn't see the difference anyway.

Cannot wait to finally get my hands on this, all these screens I hadn't seen before and awesome reviews are really getting me psyched. The 1Up Review was really solid. Sounds like they have really put together everything well - gameplay, story, and visuals wise. Some of these screens are just ridiculous good.

Really looking forward to trying it out and hearing everyone's thoughts on it! Who is getting this this week?

Starting with VF5, there have been several 720p native games that can be upscaled to 1080i/p. The Darkness is one of them.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but does anyone know if the game has online multiplayer? And if so, how does it work?

Edit: I see that it has deathmatch, but any word on team gametypes?

GAF is a harsh mistress. :( Expect some impressions in a couple hours, at least of the first little bit of the game.

Yes it does. Overall impressions and vids point to it being an afterthought/lame. You can shapeshift from Darkilings to human as you please. Darkilings are fast, jump far, and can claw (claw is crappy). Humans straight up shoot shit. Doesn't look very fun, but this game was meant for the SP experience anyway.

According to the dude on EGM Live, he said that he gave it a 6.5 because the game doesnt tell you what to do, and that it was a lot shorter than you'd think. Apparantly you can finish it in one sitting.

Still buying, I don't usually agree wih that guy who reviewed it.

I don't remember his name, but I do remember the guy's reviews

Thanks. I have a group of friends who only play multiplayer games over XBL and we were deciding whether or not to pick this up.

okay i just read donahoe's 6.5 compliant. He said the puzzles were too hard to find out...that's just a really disappointing way to lower the score. Isn't there too much handhelding in todays games anyway?

6,5 is a stupid score... seriously, what is wrong with some of the reviewers.

Most reviews give it solid 8s and 9s though.

Wait, a puzzle which requires you to think?????

Screw this game, I'm buying "The Guy Game" stat.

Listening to what he said as we speak and he complains about having to ask people where to go?! He says that he has to ask where his gf's house and Aunts house in the game, thet is pretty bad, Jackie would know where his gf and Aunt live! You have to wait for subway trains too he says which does suck, since in the game its not fun to wait for a train. He also says that the side quests are dumb and the rewards for the side quests are not good.
