Figured out downsampling without the zooming screen
Here's some comparison shots

Setting the resolution to 1080p or higher zooms into the top left corner of the screen. Any ideas?
I played through Chapter 1 with a 560Ti 448 Core w/ 1GB vram. The game ran perfectly fine at 30fps in 1920x1080, high shadows, ssao enabled with smaa anti-aliasing. The first chapter takes place in tight spaces, so maybe the game will run worse later on but it'll probably be fine.
The only thing I noticed was distracting texture streaming. Every time the camera shifts in a cutscene all the textures look like mud for about .5 seconds.
Basically, it's further confirmation you do not need anything close to 4GB of vram.
edit: Also have i5 2500k, an ssd and 8GB of ram. Everything is at stock settings.
Holy shit, thank you I promise I won't squander thi-Job in Bethesda is already waiting for You.
You had one job.
So am I to take it that we won't be getting any SLI support because this is idTech 5?
Yes, that's correct. I get worse performance with 2x 970 than with a single 970.
Tango/Bethesda has been very clear about the state of the PC-version.
"It's crap, and we won't do anything about it" is the current mentality.
Looking at this thread, it seems people overreacted at recommended settings... AGAIN.
Let be honest about the whole situation here who provided the system requirements? Who said they couldn't provide minimum system requirements? Who said you should have an i7 as a minimum processor despite not stating which models or clock speed let alone the game not using Hyperthreading? Who said you should plan to have an obscene amount of VRAM? Who when quieried about this said if you don't meet 4gb you won't be playing at 1920x1080? Who when asked repeatedly if the game would run at 60frame per second or arbitrary frame rates stayed completely silent until the eleventh hour only to say you can but its not recommend? Who said you could remove the letter boxing but in fact all it does is crop the view?
The answer to every single one of those questions is Bethesda and the way they have communicated themselves has been comical to say the least. It probally has done them more harm than good and instead of reassuring potential customers it's probaly caused panic in them instead. The messaging on Wolfenstein wasn't great but it's laughable on The Evil Within. If you can't relay technical information to your potential customers in an accurate way or are relaying second or third hand information with out having answers on hand to secondary questions or have a concise explanation for why each recommendation has been stated then you're going to create this mess. I really, really hope Bethesda and their Staff that interact with the community learn for these mistakes going forward.
Running very poorly on my machine. Though I'm behind the curve by a good bit.
4 GB Ram
Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHZ
GTX 460
Are there any .ini tweaks to make the game run a little smoother? I don't remember Wolfenstein being this choppy. The framerate console command didn't seem to help my performance.

I have the exact same setup, only my CPU is an i7 870 @ 3,3 GHz (overclocked). Do I need to worry or am I fine?

Let be honest about the whole situation here. Who provided the system requirements? Who said they couldn't provide minimum system requirements before doing so anyway? Who said you should have an i7 as a minimum processor despite not stating which models or clock speed let alone the game not using Hyperthreading? I went ahead and got the game anyway but...
At 1080p with:
AMD processor Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2GHz
Radeon 6870,
4GB ram
What do you guys think i'd be looking at performance wise?
The problem is that each time there's settings thread, people would just overreact OVER and OVER. Of course people could legitimately being worried, but in the end, the same thing happens over and over: Requirements means nothing.
Hmm I guess "meh"
I have a Xeon 1230 v3, GTX 770 and 8GB Ram. Max Settings 1080p = 60fps with drops to 45fps
Maybe 30fps on low? I had the 6870 a year ago and it's really outdated by now^^
lmaookay so an i7 2600k, 8gb ram and a gtx660 runs this on max settings at 1080/30 flawlessly. that's good news. if i unlock the frame rate it can jump from 30 to 75. that 4gb recommendation was definitely overkill.
good news for older systems.
removing the black bars is bullshit though. it doesn't remove them just crops the entire image.
anyway, i'm pretty happy considering it feels good at 1080/30 to me. i'm pretty sensitive to frame rates under 60fps but for some reason i don't mind it here. i think my perception, with the black bars hiding a lot of the image, is different. it seems to soften the smoothness of everything to me.
that fov can get a little crazy if you push it. anyone want uber cinematic?
They're not over reacting to thin air, they are over reacting to information from the only source that can tell them about the game. Then when questioned instead of reasuring potential customers, Bethesda appear to have made matters worse. Thats on both parties but that doesn't mean it's customers fault when they're are asking questions and they are either ignored or told something a lot higher than it should be. It should serve as a learning experience for all conserned but it's no way just the customers fault and this will continue to happen unless someone says to the publisher to get their facts straight and be honest with the community. Telling people alone to calm down isn't going to stop the spread on inaccurate information happening.
So... PS4 or PC? 970 sli system.

Again, true. But how many times do they have to cry wolf before we realise that there is no wolf?
Absolutely, but the audience has to assume part of the blame as well. This was the sixth or seventh time, if I remember correctly, that the announcement of frankly absurd or obfuscated system requirements set some people into panic mode, despite the efforts of many people on this forum to calm them down. In every single case so far that panic was ultimately completely unjustified. So while developers do need to learn a lesson about setting reasonable system requirements, the audience needs to learn the lesson to keep calm and not overreact.
The whole phenomenon is even weirder because this time console specs are very similar to PC ones. If you have a PC with a graphics card that is roughly as powerful as the Xbox One, you'll play the game at roughly the same quality or better. If you have a graphics card that's roughly as powerful as the PS4 you'll play the game at more or less the same quality or better. And if you have a better card than both you'll get superior graphics and performance. This has been the case for every current gen game so far.
Sub 30fps framerate or mostly 60fps/locked 30fps.So... PS4 or PC? 970 sli system.
I just don't understand why Beth said you needed four gbs of video memory and created such a massive panic. It's just not close to true, so weird!
I wonder how many sales they lost over this debacle. They must have been counting system ram being appropriated as vram.
So... PS4 or PC? 970 sli system.
That is the million dollar question right now. I'm sure there are users working on it, but there is no way to do it at the moment, no.So is there no way to change FoV? I don't mean aspect ratio. Can't you zoom out from the character but keep the 16:9 ratio, drawing the rest of the character's body and above his head?
