THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL(HARDCORE) [Wii/Headstrong Games]

Sure you're not thinking of doublesix? IIRC, they're the studio focusing on donwloadable titles; Zoe Mode are the social/party game studio.
I thought Zoe Mode was the Crush developers? I hope they haven't been shuffled to party games, that'd suck.

WOW, who'd of thought I'd acutually be pumped for an upcoming Wii release (an action game no less. I'm am a House of the Dead fanatic. I can't wait for this. My wife is even a fan of the series. Schlock shooters for the win!!

Okay, will the game include a pixel-perfect port of HOTD1 as an unlockable bonus? I need to get Sega's attention over this...

Dunno if this got posted already but here is an interview from IGN:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/899/899925p1.html

apparently it has been in development for a couple of years.
I've just read all of it. Day one. Day fucking one! Pretty much everything screams awesome about it.

IGN: What about the nunchuk. Can it be used for anything?

Neil: No, we wanted it to be accessible, but mainly we wanted to free up peoples hands for more guns. I can talk about that specifically in the future.
Hopefully this means DUAL Wiimote action support :O :O

• Relentless, gore-drenched, over-the-top action
Only the coolest, most cold-hearted agent’s going to keep his head against the zombie flood. Use “Slow-Mofo Time” to make the perfect head-popping shot and “Evil Eye” to spot moments of opportunity that’ll send the whole environment up in flames.

:lol

Looks like I'm buying two Perfect Shots then.

You're right that they were behind Crush, but I think it was their last game as Kuju Brighton (it was released just after the rebranding to Zoe Mode) and their website now puts the emphasis heavily on social and music games. As for the new name:

Zoë Mode - a young, female character who is said to embody the studio's culture and specialist talents.

"Her personality represents the kind of consumers we're targeting, and to some extent the type of people that work at the studio and the culture of the studio. She is open-minded, social, partying, a music fan, a gamer... It's about a mixture of interests," said studio head Ed Daly.

Baverstock added, "Everything about Zoë Mode as a personality is the real true essence of what the studio is. We're saying we're about making games for people like this, not just that normal, narrow, 18 - 24 year-old male age group."

While I wouldn't rule out more Crush, or more Crush-style games, I think the rebranding & their involvement in the development of Rock Revolution, makes it clear that the studio has a more casual focus now.

Seriously, HotD and Grindhouse is like the perfect marriage. Nice call Sega.

What the hell is with Sega lately? I mean, first they announce something like Madworld for the Wii, now we're getting a new House of the Dead!

They're becoming a pretty damn good publisher in comparison to just about everyone else.

Now if they could only get their Sonic games down. :D

IGN: How many enemies are you able to show on-screen at any given time?

Neil: I can't put a specific number on that at the moment because work is still going into level design and a lot will be influenced by game balancing and pacing. I would say again that we have an incredibly accomplished team at Headstrong who really know this hardware, so we'll be pushing it for all it's worth. We did take a look at some screens of a certain other zombie game that is being ported to Wii, and the general consensus was that we thought we could certainly do better.
:lol :lol :lol
Calling out Capcom like that... ::whistles::

I'm not sure what else that comment could mean besides Dual Wiimote support. If that's the case, + 1 sales probably.

Doesn't any lightgun that supports multiplayer co-op support dual wiimote support?.. Yes, there are still two characters, but if you can overlook that..

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
wow just wow, I'm so buying this.
So glad they're going with this Grindhouse flavour, so perfect.

Wii is becoming the zombies' console of choice.
(House of the Dead 2&3 Return, HotD: Overkill, Re:4 Wii Ed., Re: UC, Dead Rising:TYD...)

Capcom, Sega, and MMV says my love for eastern games is still well justified.

Square-Enix is absolutely amazing on the DS front. I really fucking love The World Ends with You, and FFIV has been great so far (never played any previous versions of the game before). Though if you're speaking strictly consoles, I can understand

Segata Sanshiro said:
So you're not totally enthused to be playing a House of the Dead game, then. What were you hoping for?

Well, I was never really hoping for a House of the Dead game, as you said. But, I do like the "intentionally unintentional" humor, despite that, which is all I really meant to say. I like it, but I'm not sure if I'd be interested in playing the game itself.

Ah. Well, I have to be honest, I'm glad it's HotD and still a rail-shooter, because I'm not sure much else is SEGA's speed anymore.

Okay, then that's totally understandable. What have they done on consoles so far? The only ones that come to mind for the Wii are DQSwords and Chocobo Dungeon, and I can't think of anything on the other two consoles...other than FFXIII, but that's still a ways into the future...

I'm ignorant, what other classic titles has Sega brought over for Wii? I pretty much want the entire Dreamcast library on the Wii. Where the fuck is power stone. I don't care if that was Capcom.

There's also Nights and Samba de Amigo I reckon.

Power Stone is on the PSP.

You can get Powerstone 1 & 2 on one convenient UMD!

I love zombies, rail shooters and the Wii. Looks awesome.

So if this game sells really well, how will it be ruled out of counting as a successful third-party title?

I bolded the franchises that I would associate prominently with the DC personally, although a few others had DC installments.

Wii:
HotD 2+3 Returns
Samba de Amigo
Nights 2
Sega Bass Fishing
Alien Syndrome 2
Super Monkey Ball BB
Ghost Squad
Sega Superstars
Sonic

Next Gen:
Sega Rally Revo
Sonic
Sega Superstars
Rez XBLA
VF
Virtua Tennis

... and a few abandoned Dreamcast IPs:
Blue Stinger
Chu Chu Rocket
Cosmic Smash
Crazy Taxi
Daytona
Headhunter
Jet Set Radio
Outrigger
Seaman
Segagaga
Sega GT
Skies
Space Channel 5

They have a bunch of other abandoned IPs, but I those are the most Dreamcasty IPs for me mentally.

It was a funny trailer, and I like the pulp aspect of it, but I agree with Alcibiades when I say that this isn't what I think of at all in terms of a hardcore third party game. It looks like just another lightgun House of the Dead game. I was hoping for something with a lot more depth, like maybe RE4 with an HOTD take(still disappointed about Umbrella Chronicles).

Personally, I think further lightgun efforts like this should be kept strictly on WiiWare or very budget priced retail. Oh well, the great thing is that between Fall '08 and Spring '09, for once there are third-party games worth writing home about.

There plenty of similarities, and in a way I do think it's the spiritual successor to the DC, and they're about even in lifetime sales! :lol
Not sure if you're serious, but Wii sales to date ≈ 3x DC lifetime sales.
