The iOS Gaming Thread: November 2012 A Bold New Era!

/adds to the collective sigh

But I doubt we need worry about such a fate for Clash of Heroes. I think we can rest assured it's simply vaporware altogether.

As much as I love my iOS gaming, news like this really make me doubt about the 'hardcore' future of the platform, especially taking in consideration the big publishers.
What an incredible let down and a waste of time.

It hurts even more considering touch screen is absolutely the perfect platform for hardcore TBS games.

From the little I played Clash of Heroes on my 360, I feel my worst nightmares come true, already seeing how they could destroy the game adding consumable iaps.

So I emailed Tag Games regarding Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for iOS. Here's their response:

Hey [Talon],

The game is still under development and release is planned very early next year I believe so keep an eye on the App Store!

It’s shaping up well so I’m sure you’ll love it!

Cheers

Oh god. All three of the unforgivable games asked about in successive posts *shudder* :P
WHAT ABOUT INFINITY BLA- DUNGEONS?!

:P

On other news, picked up Walking Dead and have been playing Ep 1 during my ongoing business trip on my iPhone 5. O M G what a magnificent game this is. Bought the season bundle and can't recommend this enough to adventure fans.

Oh god, the amount of bitching incoming...

Eh, I've lost the heart. It was a great title (probably my favourite 3DS game) but so much time has elapsed and so many other games have come out since that....

...I'll buy it whenever they release it, whatever the pricing structure.

Don't play where manly business men can see you sobbing into your phone. That would put the kaibosh on a promotion for sure.

Teary-eyed during meetings. Such emotionally beautiful.. PowerPoint graphs.

Ep 1 now completed. Loving the duality/consequential choices you're forced to make at almost every turn.

Supposedly a developer of Extreme Road Trip is corresponding with some people on toucharcade.

Says they are working on a patch but some are wondering if it's pretty deliberate. Obviously it's basically like spam and they are probably getting a lot of attention with it, even when you don't own the game itself.

Is there any way to block notifications from a game you don't own?

Whelp, it's settled: Tactical Soldier: Undead Rising is the best XCOM-like on iOS. Hunters 2 is decent, but no, it's simply not better than this game -- not even close. GAF has got to take the blinders off occasionally...

Better than humans vs aliens?

Is there a way to block specific games from challenge requests?

edit: lol, I guess I'm not the only one who is getting fucking furious at this.

New port of Wesnoth up in the app store. Sounds legit, ipad and iPhone versions available. Latest stable release too!

Probably will bite sooner than later

There is an iPhone version too.

Need impressions. Shame the other guy abandoned the other wesnoth port.

Not too eager to buy the same game twice that is free on pc.

Any good games for iPad that plays like Diablo/torchlight. Not sure what that genre is, ARPG? Dungeon crawler?

I haven't played all of these, but they might be worth looking into:

Dungeon Hunter 2

Heroes Call (heard it has lots of IAP)

Bard's Tale

Aurum Blade (Korean)

Hellbound (iPhone only)

Underworlds (iPhone only)

Solomon's Keep (iPhone only)

Legend of Master 3

Bard's Tale isn't really a dungeon crawler though.. it's more of an RPG. :P Never heard of your bottom 5, are they any good? Unfortunately, it's a very underrepresented genre here, which is also why we're all looking forward to Infinity Blade Dungeons... for what it's worth, here are the games that keep coming up:

Dungeon Hunter 2 (not 3!)

Pocket RPG

Heroes Call

Thought this might get a giggle out of some of you guys:

I suspect it it supposed to mean Black Ops 2 is a "cheap ripoff" of Crysis.

yes. And the official Crysis twitter account agreed. Which is, you know, kinda funny, since open burns of video game studios don't happen that often. :P Crytek is fun.

Let me help.

Better than humans vs aliens?

Yes. Well, depends. Aliens vs. Humans is obviously much more "X-COM" than Tactical Solider is (which doesn't have a Geoscape or base building). And while AvH does a good job of replicating X-COM, both the positives and negatives of an early 90's game, on iOS I enjoy playing the core battles of TacSol more than I do AvH.

Cool, thanks - will check it out.

Edit: seems quite expensive (£2.99 in the uk store), and that's just for one campaign. Same price again for the second campaign. Do you get a decent amount of game for the price?

Got my new (and very first) 4th gen ipad and I'm pretty impressed by the performance in display (and that retina screen as well!).

I have a question though. I live in the Philippines and my Apple account is tied to the Philippine store. I was browsing around looking for Bastion and realized that I can only get it from the US store. Is there anything stopping me from switching my account to the US store and using something like a gift card to purchase the game?

Yes you can. Create a new account for the US store (just buy a free game to do so sans CC info), then use a service like maximuscards or pcgamesupply to buy a US store coupon code. Add code, enjoy. Alternatively you could also use something like Freemyapps to try out games for points, which can then be redeemed for iTunes, Amazon, etc. credit.

Full Disclaimer: Even though I think it's worth more I bought the game when it was on sale for $1, and I haven't finished it yet.

TacSol is really X-COM crossed with a survival horror game, and I'm on chapter 7 of I think 8. Time for the game is probably 6-7 hours as a guess, but that's not counting campaign 2 yet for which I have no idea. Maybe add it to your App Shopper list for when it possibly goes on sale again later this month... http://www.appshopper.com/games/tactical-soldier-undead-rising

Calm down, they both suck.

Crysis doesnt suck

I beg to differ.

Anyway I'm getting better at Zookeeper Battle. I mean I still think it's unbalanced as hell, but lately the scale has been tipping in my favor. I don't know what it is, I randomly decided to reinstall it and I end up doing well.

No love for Heads Up! Hot Dogs? I'm still the third top score worldwide on the space station despite not having played in close to a week, and there's only two people on my friends list who have it. I thought AS was pretty highly regarded in the thread? It's one of their better games and it seems like a slow week, it's worth checking out.

Hey I noticed Gary Whitta is the writer for TWD ep 4. Did he write all the episodes and I didn't notice his name in the credits or just ep 4? Either way pretty damn cool.

edit: I should probably be asking this in the actual TWD thread. Gotta find a way to make the post and read the reply without getting any spoilers.
