The iOS Gaming Thread: November 2012 A Bold New Era!

I'm pretty much the opposite. I only have a 16 GB version and it's fine. I play a game, I finish it, I delete it. I don't keep a massive backlog, I play what I buy. It's a good way of keeping your spending down and appreciating the games you have properly. I fear I would just loose games in the cavern of my drive otherwise. I don't do music or videos (streaming!).

Same here. That's why 16Gb is enough for me.

Are they the newies for this week? What are they about/like?

Dream of Pixels is basically Tetris with a dreamy art style except for one difference: it's upside down.

Yeah, that's going to fuck with my head.

Micro Miners looks like some sort of Dig-Dug/Lemmings hybrid.

It's up on the US iTunes store if anyone wants to bite the bullet for us:

Same situation...I got a 32 Gb iPad 'just in case' but honestly it's always more than half empty.
Since I got the iPad, iPhone gaming has really diminished and now games go on just one device (either iPad or iPhone, depending on the game)...so I could 'downgrade' both devices to 16 Gb only in the future, something I'm considering for next year.
At home I have a NAS with everything digital I use (pictures, music, documents, movies) so I just stream those with FileBrowser.
Everything else is on iCloud.

Same situation for me as well. Some games I play on both, but mostly I choose which I want and distribute accordingly.

Is iTunes working for anyone? I can't seem to sign on. It says "temporarily unavailable, please try again later."

Wonder what's wrong.

Yeah, was acting weird for me, not connecting when purchasing. Finally got through a few minutes ago, others have reported the same.

Micro Miners is super cool. And it's one of those one-man projects that I love to support. Only $1.

Is the last set of levels for Angry Birds Star Wars worth 2 bucks? The first 2 sets were decent but the game (and the last few ABs) are just so easy to beat now

Buying Micro Miners now. Looks great. Positive impressions on Dream of Pixels? Only $1, will try it.

Let me second (third?) the Dream of Pixels recommendation. It's a pretty cool game of 'reverse' tetris with multiple modes. I watched a video and didn't quite grasp the concept, but I bought it anyway. Maybe I was thinking too hard as I watched since 'reverse' tetris is exactly how it plays. I don't know if this is an original idea or not, but I haven't played anything like it before.

Any impressions of Beatdown yet?
I don't know what to tell you. It is a very basic beat'em up game, there are 3 parts per stage with 1 boss at the end.

The controls are customizable, touch-drag, dpad, analog. The music isn't really notable, I don't remember any tune and the enemis are not particularly interesting. I've only beaten the first two bosses though.

It is up to you if you like beat 'em up or not.

Freemyapps was worth about 15 dollars worth of iTunes/Amazon credit over the past 24 hours (across 3 devices). Time to splurge on something. How's Minecraft Pocket?

Bad. Get Junk Jack if you like the genre, even though it's more Terraria than Minecraft.

Was hoping someone would thank me for posting this =(

I tweeted it on Twitter like 8 hours ago or something

Oh yeah, I chose the 32 GB White iPhone 5. lol. I guess i should be getting it next week. Dont really want a bigger screen to be honest, it felt weird when I tried it at the Apple Store

So if I get an iPad (I already have an iPhone), is there a way I can have both devices sync to my PC's iTunes but have different apps on each.

Or do I just need to turn off syncing and do everything manually?

hmm how do you get points to the same account on separate devices?

It's 3 different accounts on 3 different devices. 2 iPads and an iPhone.

What!? How exactly does it work? I thought it made you write reviews for apps one exchange for credits that you can eventually trade for iTunes cards.

Nope. Just install the free app and let it run for 30 seconds.

You can have them both synch to the same iTunes and have each loaded with different apps/movies/music.

thanks! haha thought I could pool the points from different devices. :/ guess it can't work that way

I just bought Flea Symphony, the Editor's Choice game of the week and I reccomend against following my example. I think I remember the dev's previous game, P. B. Winterbottom, getting good reviews, but Flea Symphony is very dull so far. Maybe it's just disappointing since I've been playing Beat Sneak Bandit recently, but FS requires no rythm at all, it's just a trial-and-error shifting of platforms until you get your character to bounce off them in the right order.

I'll keep playing to see if it gets interesting, but it's not holding my interest whatsoever after the first ten levels.

I see Arc Squadron is now $3, I hope they find a pricing structure that works. The game's pretty cool, a little difficult to control on my 3rd gen iPad though, I'd be curious to try it on a Mini.

You should have just done the pickup thing. I wanted to buy an iphone, I ordered online after 10pm went to store and got it next morning like 2 weeks ago.

And bigger screen = read more gaf and twitter.

You will be 120% more efficient!

It's going to sound like hyperbole - and it probably is - but I think Dream of Pixels might be the Lumines of the iPhone for me.

I just played it for about an hour in a dreamlike trance and it felt like 5 seconds. So good.

So I was just tapping away in Curosity, and I think the app crashed, when I restarted I was missing about 200,000 coins... What the fuck?

It's 2 day shipping, I think I can survive

Yeah, this game is pretty damn cool. I wouldn't really compare it to Lumines personally since that game is a little more unique and Dream of Pixels is just a twist on Tetris, but it controls great (though the few times it has messed up a block placement it's extremely frustrating). After playing it for fifteen minutes I'm pretty confident it'll never leave my iPad.

I don't think they meant it as a direct comparison, but rather every great handheld has had a great falling block puzzle game.

Gameboy had Tetris, Game Gear had Columns, DS had Meteos, PSP had Lumines...and up to now iOS had nothing (that I was aware of). If Dream of Pixels was on some handheld people would be trumpeting it as proof the system was worth owning.

Ok, now I've gone overboard:) but the game is good. And right now I'm ranked 12th on the Shattered Dreams leader board!
...of 24. I guess not many have unlocked that mode yet:)

Yeah, it's very good, but it's pretty much a twist on Tetris where the other games you mentioned are pretty different.

Is it just be or Ravenous doesn't seem to put as much effort on their games that aren't a League Of Evil?
