I have had Infinity Blade for yonks but only really gave it a good go yesterday.

Does it get better than swipe swipe, dodge dodge, repeat? It's got great graphics and sound, but I can't for the life of me see how anyone can suffer through this for long. I got up to Bloodline 2, just inside the castle. I thought the game was going to start offering me something new but it seemed like I just had to repeat everything again.

that's pretty much its. Its pretty innane and brainless. I think once you get going with the upgrading of items, it gets engagin but its still not for everyone.

Why not just play the DS one? I never understand this compulsion to play games from one device on another.

Someone probably should get on this though, I'll bet there are thousands of people that will play one of these collecting JRPGs if it was made right. But still, play it on the DS, that's what it's for.

The worst type of advice is "your question is wrong." Obviously there's a reason, be it no DS or wanting to be able to satisfy a craving on something that's always on you for a couple bucks.

There aren't any full fledged Pokemon clones from what I know but there's are some turn based RPGs that are cool. There are some monster battle rpgs like Pets (?), and DJ Rivals is a little reminiscent with turn based battles and bosses, but I don't think there's a real answer to Pokemon on iPhone.

Nope, that's about it. Updates have added more rooms, enemies (both re-skins and some new attack patterns), and equipment to buy, but it's basically Punch Out! with swords and some light leveling mechanics.

Yikes, I probably shouldn't have got it then. It's very pretty, but I don't like playing RPG's because I hate grinding, Infinity Blade sounds like it was built around the concept.

It's pretty much JUST the grinding, and not even particular exciting grinding either.

I bought on special a few weeks ago, and only got around to playing this myself a few days ago.

I don't like RPGs for the grinding, but Infinity Blade is mildly engaging just because it's so easy to get to the next battle. There isn't a whole 'explore the town and talk to NPCs' like RPGs do, so it's easy to just say, "oh just one more battle' or 'I'll just get the next sword'.

It never really gets into 'good' territory, but it's not super terrible. I'm glad I got it on special, though.

PAPA SANGRE IS FREE, I REPEAT:
PAPA SANGRE is FREE.
FUCK, FREE ONLY ON APPSTORE NA. FUCK THAT YOU LUCKY BASTARDS
papa-sangre.jpg

Papa Sangre: there's no video in "videogame".
Play it ONLY with your headphones on, there's no reason to play it otherwise.

Hopefully it'll drop on EU store asap, it's still 3,99€ here.

Nevermind. Got it

I lucked out and snagged Papa for free. Just got done playing around with it--mind is officially blown. Makes me wish I had really expensive headphones.

PAPA SANGRE
Apparently it's no longer free (USA). Tried about an hour ago to download it and the search result said "FREE APP" but when I tapped/clicked through on my iPhone/computer it said $4.99. Now it shows a price in both locations. Thanks, anyway!

Yeah, sorry guys but also congrats to the few who snagged it in time.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and it's always awesome when a game trying to do things differently shows up on console/platform, isn't? Well, PS is definitely one of those games and as such it's polarizing even tho usually the response from people who've played it is pretty damn positive. Again, I must stress it that you play it with headphones. It's a tad short, I wish there were more "episodes" in the future... But it looks unlikely.

I can see how it can appear to be like this in the early bloodlines cause you can get away with even just using block breaks all the way. In the first ten bloodlines or so, the only real challenge is the God King. But don't be deceived, each bloodline enemies get slightly faster and more difficult and all the easy bloodlines are great training to gradually get your skill up.

Infinity Blade is actually pretty deep in terms of the techniques you have to master to beat enemies at later stages in the game. Here are some tips from the developers: http://www.epicgames.com/infinityblade/devtips.html

And here's a few things I didn't realize in the beginning:
- parrying is the most fun and important skill to master, it requires you to observe your opponent very sharply and the moment he's about to strike at you, you should not only swipe in the opposite direction but make sure that, at the end of your swipe, your finger touches his sword (master this and parrying starts to feel really cool and intuitive)
- how you time your blocks and dodges seems to give you stab opportunities, the easiest thing is always to hit block/dodge long before it's actually necessary but I'm noticing that when I hit i.e. dodge just in time, I get a stab opportunity
- attack A LOT, waiting around for your opponent to make his move is often good too but it's often better to be swiping like a madman because it 'scratches' him and, if you're timing things correctly and adjusting your swipes to his stance/moves, it'll often make parrying easier

Perhaps the game may become more enjoyable to you as it gets more difficult. For me personally, it's by far the best game on the platform atm. I'm at bloodline 27 now I think and I'm still having a blast, especially with how fast and fierce the enemies are at this point.

Not sure how many in this thread are interested but 5pb slashed the price of Memories Off 6 from ¥2200 to ¥350 and are donating the money from all sales to Red Cross of Japan.
1.8 gb!?

What kinda game is that? Was gonna buy it but not on wifi ATM. I know very little Japanese, but games will help me practice my reading...so I'm down. And "donating" while getting something in return is nice. But they should have kept the price as it was and donated from that. Less people would probably have bought it for $20 though. Still, very awesome of them.

Thanks for the post, but that doesn't sound appealing to be honest. Maybe something will click if I keep playing, we'll see. Thanks again...

Just did the objective of reaching Tiny Wings level 5 upside down.. honestly, I almost played better that way oddly enough. I got nearly all 3 of the objectives for the next nest on that play through (reached level 4 in Fever) -- my perfect slides struggled a bit though as I only got 28 instead of 32. Descended too early a few times.

Gave me a bit of a headache though.

Agree!

wow league of evil has me hooked! im almost done the entire first chapter(3 stars and briefcases) what a great game! has anyone here fully drained there battery from 100% in one sit down playing a game? cause i did it for the first time ever playing this game!

Thought this was worth sharing:

::FROM NOW THROUGH 3/20, 100% OF SEGA'S PROCEEDS FROM SONIC THE HEDGEHOG iOS TITLES WILL BE DONATED TO THE RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS IN JAPAN::

...

As added incentive, the prices of the following titles have been temporarily reduced:
Sonic Spinball - $0.99
Sonic the Hedgehog - $1.99
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - $2.99
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I - $3.99

...

Commendable and convenient, just wanted to spread the word. Certainly it's a good time to revisit a Sonic classic or finally bite and see what side of the fence you'd land on re:Sonic 4.

bought Sonic 1 and will probably buy Sonic 2 and maybe Sonic 4 Ep 1 even though it's more expensive than the last sale but want to support the relief efforts

So, my new iPhone 4 just came in today. Last iOS device I personally used before this was a second gen Touch. Picked up and installed Infinity Blade to mess around with it for a bit after getting stuff set up with the new Mac. Pretty damn awesome, this screen rocks the hell out of the Touch that I had. Did not expect the difference to be that striking in person.

On the topic of Infinity Blade, is there much point in keeping gear that you've mastered and aren't currently wearing? For example, I'm only like level 4 but I already switched out my mastered starter helm for the cheapest one that had XP+ on it. Is there any reason I shouldn't just sell the old helm?

I can't believe I played my iPad 4 hours straight last night. I fired up Game Dev Story for the first time, just to check for a few minutes what the fuss was all about even tho I had it in my backlog since forever; althought I couldn't quite grasp what I was doing (man does the manual suck or what?!), I just couldn't put it down... Let's ship ONE MORE GAME (I've done 11 with a million+ seller as my best attempt and I'm in Y4, dunno if that's good since I've only expanded once)! Last time I played a game for four hours straight was with Mario Galaxy 1. Anyway, this morning I was destroyed, sleepwalking...

Is it worth it on iPad? It sounds like a great game but I've been let down by iPhone games on iPad before, I'm a bit fussy about having to zoom in and especially by games that aren't so comfy in portrait mode with no option to have the iPad in landscape.

Absolutely, perfectly playable on the ipad.
It's all touch based and they're basically menus that you're clicking, so it is absolutely fine at 2X zoom. In fact, even if there's no landscape mode I'd say it's better played on the iPad.

It's not something like LEAGUE of EVIL (ON SALE for $0.99 again) which is impossible to enjoy on the iPad.

NeoGAF's MAD SKILLS MOTOCROSS challenges

I bought it. I really have no interest in anime visual novels, but it'll help me practice my japanese and it's for a good cause.

I can't believe Truckers Delight still isn't updated for iPad resolution, even though the latest update was in January, and there's another one coming, and the company is well known for their Universal support. Hopefully one day. I love this game. Also, I wonder if and when it'll ever get its "episode 2".

Anyway, I gave in and downloaded both HD versions of Angry Birds and Seasons, and was able to successfully copy my old save from my iPod. Whoo! Just wish the syncing were automatic. Apple should have implemented save syncing from the start. If not hosting the saves on the peoples servers, use your massive Apple Cloud to host the relatively small amount of save data these games would take up. Upload when game saves, download again when game loads.

Capcom is following Sega with Street Fighter at 99 cents. I've wanted to pick it up so I finally did.

Also league of evil dropped in price.

Picked it up too, 59p is just too good to pass up even if I do only play it a couple of times. Not played an SF game since SFII turbo back on the SNES...

iPad owners, I recommend grabbing Viking Lords. It's basically the board game BattleLore. A lot of fun if you enjoy tactical combat/sRPGs. Plus it has online, though I havent yet tried it.

Any iOS games tell a great story? I'd like an experience I can become emotionally attached to.

I've played Chaos Rings, Broken Sword 1, and Steel Sky.

There's not really a lot to choose from but definitely check out the special editions of The Secret of Monkey Island 1 and 2 . They're probably your best bets.

The telltale games are decent, too, but I can't vouch for their iOS ports.

GTA: Chintatown Wars' story is surely one of the best stories on the platform, for better or worse.

Phoenix Wright is a lot of fun.

The Gamebook Adventures and Fighting Fantasy choose-your-own-adventure games are fun as well.

Also, there's a second Broken Sword game available in case you missed that.

Battle for Wesnoth is a fantastic and massive game with writing of varying quality (mostly average or below from what I've seen). But they constantly update it and perhaps it has gotten better?

Finally, you may want to check out the recent adventure/hidden object game hybrid "Drawn". It's verrrrry pretty. Haven't played much of it yet, and there probably won't be too much of a story, but it's well told so far.
