I'm going to buy an iPad 2. About the games, all iphone games work on iPad (even if it's at lower resolution)? Or you have to buy the special iPad version (or universal apps) to play them?

Yes, they'll work on the Ipad.

How do games generally look? If an iPhone game is Retina Display compatible, is the difference between that and a native iPad game particularly pronounced?

Really looking forward to picking up my iPad now, seems a much more natural platform for gaming - more and more I'm finding that the screen is just too small on the iPhone.

So, a friend and I made a game. I did the art and he did the programming. Its basically a geometry wars-ish type shooter. And I have no problem admitting its pretty shallow. But it was fun to make and I actually think there's some good ideas with controls and whatnot.

No virtual d pad or anything like that. Basically your gun is both your weapon and propulsion. So you press where you want to shoot and you'll move away in the opposite direction. There's a momentum to it all so if you hold and fire in one direction for too long you can get going too fast and out of control. I generally play with both thumbs and after I fire one way to kill an enemy or whatever then I'll press the opposite direction to slow down and try to keep myself positioned somewhere in the middle of the screen.

There is a bug where you have to quit and restart the game for your score to appear on the high score screen. Its super annoying and shoud get fixed soon, but that's not my area.

Anyhoo, I'd love some feed back. I'll try to get some free codes or whatever and post them here.

Oh, and I payed homage to Gaf in the character design. =)

Thanks for the code!

I'll play it and post feedback later.

Dang, looks like they're all gone.

Edit: haha, i spoke too soon! The first one worked, guess everyone else was working backwards too. Thanks! Can't wait to try it out.

You could post codes for members only by putting them in the email code, you have to quote to see and lurkera can't do that.

I've been playing Dj Rivals like crazy for the past two days. Beat the first boss, have a lot cooler (and more challenging) attack combos and think it's a blast. This is like my ideal game. Some complaints but still.

I'm a big fan of puzzle / point & click game and I'm glad that they are finding a home on the iPad.

So far I have:
Broken Sword: Director's Cut
Hamlet or the Last Game without MMORPG Features, Shaders, and Product Placement
Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2
Pirate Mysteries
Puzzle Agent

Anyone recommend any that I am missing?

Never played it myself but Dracula The Path of the Dragon Part 1 HD is on sale for free right now(usually $6). Just thought id mention it, reviews seem pretty average/middle of the road but for free you may want to give it a shot.

Hector! Lewd and crude but an excellent adventure game.

Maybe the Telltale ports too - Sam&Max or BttF?

7th Guest? I hear the graphics look a bit crap on iPad but the game is easier to play.

Myst and Riven! I think an iPad version of Riven is in the works. I hope they do Myst as well. It was my favorite of the two.

Yeah I'm waiting on an Ipad version of those games too. Been wanting to play them for a long time.

That's a good point. How do the sales charts work for that? I buy most of my apps on my Mac .. and then they'd sync to both my iPhone and iPad .. so where does my sale go?

Maybe there should be a separate column for universal apps?

If there was a column for sales across iPhone and iPad, you'd probably see more universal apps popping up. Though it really doesn't matter -- iPad sales are WAY lower than that of iPhone, just purely based off of how many iPads exist in the world.

That's also a reason why iPad apps are usually more expensive compared to iPhone -- games like Back To The Future going iPad exclusive ultimately makes them less money than making an iPhone build as well, so they try to at least recoup the cost of making things iPad exclusive.

I prefer when iPad gets things that use the largeness to its advantage, like Fruit Ninja's 2 player mode, or The Creeps HD having entirely new levels.

This is probably an extreme LTTP but

HOLY FUCK TINY WINGS IS ADDICTIVE.

Where have you been? There were pages and pages and pages of whacking off to it. Good game, but glad that shits over with!

Wow! Reckless Racing is incredible. Would love to see this fleshed out more on psn, xbla or even a disc release. Add vehicle damage, 60fps, more cars on screen and more/longer tracks. So good!

Damn. Infinity Blade is still my favorite game by faaaaar, so good...

edit: wow! what comes after the deathless knights is awesome!

Also, I just discovered Phoenix, really well done and good looking endless bullet hell shooter. Pretty sure I'll be playing this way more than DoDonpachi Resurrection because most of the time I want my bullet hell with somewhat simpler gameplay than DDR and other interesting attempts on the app store (like ISUD) haven't done it for me thus far.

I'm talking more about the poor presentation like the story and animation. Not that the 360/PS3/PC version had a great story or anything, but regardless, they put very little effort into this game.

I'd have been much happier if they went with that 2D flash version of mirror's edge.

I'm also just annoyed that sites like Touch Arcade hype apps to no end, giving almost every app that isn't totally embarrassing their passionate seal of approval. Where's the criticism? The standards held on every other platform?

I'm all for fun little distractions and time wasters on the iOS but I need meatier games too. Unfortunately, sites like Touch Arcade need to do their part to push the iOS market forward and make a distinction between the two. All they're doing now is appeasing as many people as possible so they get paid.

End of my rant, apologies. :P

Don't think I'd have been happier with the flash version but I agree with everything else.

On my 2nd run though, I was able to get to the half way point of the battle and I went with the 'evil' choice. I was bummed to find out nothing really happens.

Hector is fun, but I'm looking for specifically iPad/Universal games

Yeah I'm waiting for S&M and BttF to drop a little bit.

Twisted Lands HD is a pretty decent HO/adventure game hybrid. Pretty nice looking too outside of the very 90's European PC adventure game looking characters. Let me know if you find any others and I'll do the same... I really want some more quality adventure games on the iPad... It's freaking PERFECT for them!

Sierra and Lucasarts should be putting all their backlog up on iOS... I wonder why they aren't?

I've been playing a lot of Dungeon Raid and tbh I'm not sure how I feel about it. The game is haaard, probably too hard at times. It's addictive but entirely unforgiving, I always seem to get to the same point and die, usually around 1000 points in. IMO the game takes a little too long to get going properly and then becomes too hard to quickly. I think a lot of the problem with it is how the enemies will always come from the top, meaning that if you don;t have enough swords at the top as well a boss can just kill you outright in a few turns.

I think I'll give it a little longer but if I don't break through the score barrier soon I'll be moving on to more enjoyable games.

Haven't seen Beneath a Steel Sky mentioned, that's really good as well

I beat the new areas/enemies and it now asks me if I want to go to the next bloodline or do a 'new game +'. I vaguely know what 'new game +' is but I wonder what the pros/cons of each option are...

edit: hah, nvm, options are clarified when you pick one, basically 'new game +' resets everything except for your level/xp and starts a new game from scratch in which you can infinitely re-master items as much as you want. I'm gonna keep going for new bloodlines until I've mastered everything and/or things get impossibly difficult cause it's just too much fun.

And if you like Twisted Lands HD, check out the other similar games like Drawn (very nice and polished, just like Twisted Land), and then the older ones like Puppet Show.

Then there's Inherit the Earth. It's supposed to be an old pc adventure game but I had never heard of it before... looks interesting (it's native to the ipad but poorly so).

There's a second Broken Sword, not sure if you're aware of that.

I don't care for the Telltale iPad ports if they're all the quality of Sam and Max episode 1. Anyone know if the others are better? Even if they are worth playing it doesn't look like they'll be releasing the other episodes :(

Finally, there's also the Gamebooks (first one being "An Assassin in Orlandes"). They're worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.

And that's all I've come across. iOS is still pretty barren as far as quality adventure games are concerned :(

I have had Infinity Blade for yonks but only really gave it a good go yesterday.

Does it get better than swipe swipe, dodge dodge, repeat? It's got great graphics and sound, but I can't for the life of me see how anyone can suffer through this for long. I got up to Bloodline 2, just inside the castle. I thought the game was going to start offering me something new but it seemed like I just had to repeat everything again.

Ok I have a new winner: Helsing's Fire.
Hilarious dialogues, smart concept and beautiful art and music.
And they just added another campaign with a new storyline.
IGA winner for real.

new campaign eh? Time to buy the HD version then (wish it were Universal but for a game as good as this, it's worth buying again to support 'em). Though the game does do random puzzles every time you play. Also seems to be endless daily puzzles (bounties -- they're a lot more challenging than anything in the campaign). Still, it's a great game and should happily sit on anyone's iPad.

Nope, that's about it. Updates have added more rooms, enemies (both re-skins and some new attack patterns), and equipment to buy, but it's basically Punch Out! with swords and some light leveling mechanics.

I'd love some feedback.

I haven't tried it out yet, but the screens you posted look pretty good. I need to free up some space on my iPod before I can download anything else. Would you have any advice for someone who is in the process of developing their own iOS game? It's a pretty absorbing activity, and I'm loving it, but it can be difficult juggling development with schoolwork and whatnot.

Really getting an itch to play a Pokemon game, anyone got any advice on clones for iPhone/iPad?

Why not just play the DS one? I never understand this compulsion to play games from one device on another.

Someone probably should get on this though, I'll bet there are thousands of people that will play one of these collecting JRPGs if it was made right. But still, play it on the DS, that's what it's for.

Don't have a DS at the moment, waiting to pick up black/white when the 3DS comes out at the end of the month. I've been doing some looking and haven't seen anything that really resembles it - sort of shocking!

Im surprised gameloft hasnt done an ios version of theirs yet.

For anyone curious I just picked up Back To The Future HD and so far it runs really well on my ipad2, put about a half hour into it.
