That sounds like a reasonable control scheme. Are through balls possible by touching the screen?

You mean directing where you want to pass the ball by touching the screen? I don't think so. There is a "one touch" control option where you pass, shoot, through ball, etc. by just one touch of the screen, but I haven't spent time with that control scheme.

Overall, I like the simplicity of the controls. It makes me think of the Winning Eleven 6 era. For 2011, they've added many more animations for bicycle kicks, diving headers, more dribbles, etc.

Cool. I might give it a try. Thanks.

If you have pes2010 i wouldnt recommend 2011 for the price, if they are updating great but it really does feel like a patch over a new game and thats a shame, i cant see myself playing it again unless they fix the shooting and keepers :(

I only spent $1.99 on 2010, so $7 or $8 for better gameplay is fine with me. It's my only game device anyways.

Someone asked why Konami didn't just add 2011 as an update to 2010. Evidently they wanted to do that but the licensing agreements prevented them from doing so. That said, they still will probably update gameplay/features, etc.

Well i hope you enjoy it :D, maybe its just me and my cynical self but while the buid up play is undeniably better, the end experience is hollow, like old fifa games used to feel, i cannot abide a game where the mechanics allow for maybe 2 or 3 types of goals to be scored, it feels so monotonous even if the build up play is improved, it feels like there is no reward for reaching the penalty area.

To celebrate the release of Meow Meow Happy Fight HD for iPad on 7th October, we are putting a number of our games on sale:
• Meow Meow Happy Fight HD: 66% OFF
• Meow Meow Happy Fight: 66% OFF
• Piyo Blocks 2: 66% OFF
• Piyo Blocks: 50% OFF
Sale ends Monday 11th October.
I just bought Meow Meow Happy Fight HD and Piyo Blocks 2 for $.99 each.
Only played the tutorial of MMHF, it's a top down shooter, very pretty. Still need to play more.
I bought PB2 cause I hear it's a great match-3 game. If I like it, I may also buy the HD version for $3.

On the one hand, you want long battery life, on the other, you want 60 Hz.. It just doesn't work that way, folks.

Pretty much.

If developers can reach a high framerate, however, there should at least be an option to toggle that setting. High performance mode vs battery conservation mode

Wow thanks for pointing this out, it looks pretty slick. I am loving zenonia 2 and was kind sad that when I finished it there wasnt going to be anything else like it to play.

Did you see the Across Age game? It's supposed to be pretty similar too, and is in HD w/ 8-way controls.

Has anyone here tried the mobile version? The screenshots look purty and all, but I'm wondering if it's really only usable on the iPad.

Thanks for pointing this out. I only saw the iPad version and assumed they didn't bother with an iPhone one.

I mucked around with it for a little bit and it works pretty well. If it's at all possible to use a stylus with the iPhone it would make the program even more worthwhile. All around, for .99 cents, it's well worth it. The fact that it has pressure sensitive brushes makes it worth it.

So I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun Geo Wars is and I'm wondering if there's any other twin stick shooters worth checking out. I didn't expect Geo Wars to even be playable!

I've been in love with Isotope for months now but it's not very Geometry Warsesque aside from the look and controls of the game. It's more of a slower paced RPG-lite type of twin stick shooter.

It's actually kind of like Geometry Wars Galaxies, if you've ever played that -- you buy different ships and earn experience to level them up while using credits to buy new modules and abilities for them as you go through different levels.

what are the best free iphone games to get?

Galcon Labs
The Creeps
GodFinger
Urban Rivals
Words With Friends
Undercroft
TD
Crazy Test

And some others of course. Dunno if all of these are still free.

Also, is there a game like Hot PXL? Spent a lot of time with this on my PSP would love something like it on the iPhone. Already have Crazy Test but it's short on minigames.

Can't argue with having options. It's still a tiny bit more work though (you have to synchronize your gameloop to deal with the current refresh rate instead of just cropping at 30Hz, or your gameplay speed varies).

I've only played the first few levels of Cut The Rope, but I can already tell it's amazing. And so many levels! Unbelievable value for a dollar.

I guess Jobs' "Price aggressively and go for volume" is a winning combo for developers and consumers.

How many levels are in the full version of cut the rope? I just played the lite version and it was great, but I got all the stars in the first two boxes relatively quickly.

4 boxes to start. new levels coming “soon”. I’m guessing an Angry Birds style update scenario with new free levels every couple months.

Cut The Rope is an awesome game for 99 cents. It's over a bit quick but it's good clever fun and a very appropriate game for the iPhone. Once in a while I run into a snag where one of the blowers I hit won't work, or my fat ass fingers cut a rope when I mean to pop a bubble, but these are minor quibbles. It's easily a 8/10 game (possibly higher if they live up to their promise of more puzzles). The game is executed well and the a-ha moments of the puzzles are satisfying.

I've got every achievement so far except for that Spider Bash one. I'm guessing that will come when I do a score run for the later levels. It is an "easy" game but there are a couple of tricky moments towards the end. Only 5 of my Game Center friends have this so far, c'mon NeoGAF, it's worth the buck! (PS My user name is GlassJoe on GC).

edit: OMG Aero: 100 levels (25 per box). It is over somewhat quick, but if you had fun with the Lite version, I'd recommend giving it a go.

The only thing I have not done in Cut the Rope is get the achievement for cutting 5 ropes at once (cause I Cannot be bothered to go through all the levels lookign for a 5 rope one right now)... everything else is complete.

I am sad... update quick, make more levels!! :/

I purchased cut the rope HD, it's a great game, but...

Why the fuck are you making me log into Crystal, Chillingo! GC support, get on it!

How can they support Game Center when the iPad doesn't have it yet? It supports GC on the iPhone.

Oh shit. I need to either stop drinking, or put down the iPad.

Does the phone version have GC?

yup.

this is bugging me on mega worm since my high score is on the ipad. no game center support there!

Dude we get it. You've complained about games lacking GC support a bunch of times now.

Tobor said:
Hey, we each have our thing. GC support is my 60fps.

GC support is important to me too. I'm not buying any games from now on without it (free games get a pass).

Btw, Soosiz is free right now. I've had this game for a long time now and it is great platformer. Sort of like a 2D Super Mario Galaxy. This is only the second game I've ever purchased that has gone free, the other being The Creeps! I can't complain since I've got so many games for free or discounted.

I've seen Across Age but the game looks really cheaply made. Not really interested after watching that video but thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT: actually wait there is a lite version, I'll try that before I decide.

Yea, I guess it has it quirks, but I mentioned it because it reviewed pretty well, and they said Zenonia had to improve to beat it. Zenonia's framerate is god awful, so if nothing else, AA has it beat there. But yea, there's some quirks, and combat is done differently, so you may not like it.

On the subject of framerate, I got AA DX, and it's not improved, it's worse. AA non-retina version, is slightly smoother, and a bit faster. The DX version with retina support is slightly lower, but still higher than Zenonia. It's zoomed out a bit, so everything looks really sharp and you can see a lot more, but it's just not as fast. Maybe they'll optimize it down the road a bit more, not sure.

Edit: That Heroes Lore game (off-screen video of gameplay in first paragraph) looks like it could be much better than both of these, so it's probably better to wait and see how it turns out. It can't be one of the most popular RPGs in Korea for nothing. People are comparing it to Illusion of Gaia or Secret of Mana, we'll see.

Agreed:

Step 1: Game Center
Step 2: Retina display support

These two are REQUIRED.

I'm not sure what the deal is here. There is an iPad version labeled Cut The Rope HD, for what, twice the iPhone price?

iPad resolution (1024x768) is not much higher than iPhone 4 resolution (960x640). Where is the justification for selling an app for twice the price for a 28% increase in pixel count?

Does the iPhone version have no high res assets to justify the cost of the iPad version?

Soo I'm missing an achievement for Cut The Rope... the Spider Buster one. It's to the point that I think the game glitched and skipped the achievement. Anyone have any clue precisely what it entails? I imagine it's supposed to be Kill X amount of spiders total, but is it maybe kill so many at once or let so many kill you or something goofy? If anyone has any thoughts, let me know. I've beaten the game, played each level for score for quite a while, it's odd and the actual Game Center achievement description isn't exactly helpful.

technically, Cut the rope for iPhone is still 480 x 320.

but I agree with you anyway.

I would want a lot of these smaller games to have a universal ipad iPhone version. even if that means the price of the game isn’t 1 dollar but *shock* 2 or 3.

especially when they come out on the same day!

having fun with cut the rope. I wish you could break down the leaderboards by level like in angry birds, but I guess they don't because the scores are low and probably don't have much variance if you're able to get 3 stars.

also, are there any good mahjongg games out there that play well on the iphone?

The scores do have a theoretical maximum, it's time based in addition to getting the 3 stars. The game does break scores down by level boxes but not individual stages. I'm currently #74 of 63,344 for the first box (and #13 for level 3) and I can't imagine cutting any times down much more.

Oh, as for that Spider Buster achievement, I did some research by making a Crystal account. Apparently it's just killing 40 spiders. My Crystal account shows me at 100$ including that achievement, so it's a glitch with Game Center. The only game I've 100%'ed, and I don't even get credit :lol Oh well maybe an update will fix that bug.

That's what I'm trying to say. If today's iPhone is similar in resolution to today's iPad, where is the justification for the 200% markup (should a game have Retina Display graphics on the iPhone version) ?

Unless there is a significant difference in feature set, it's a rort (or dishonest to non Antipodeans).
