The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT2| Part II

Btw guys 2XL's Trophylite Rally has dropped to $0.99, it's a beautiful rally racer (though not entirely as pretty as its doctored screenshots) with a super-smooth framerate and it can be quite pleasant and immersive, plus it has TONS of tracks. Though... As a racing game, it's bad, not much of a challenge and everything is somehow a time trial instead of actual racing or something.

You do realise that not everyone needs all this shit, or wants to jump through the hoops to get it?

Apple's multitasking solution works perfectly fine for me, and I suspect pretty much everyone else too.

Hardly 'pretty much everyone else too' considering how popular Backgrounder is.
Also, there aren't any hoops to jump through either (assuming you're already Jailbroken, of course), as Backgrounder works without just about everything out there, and Apple's solution has to be specifically baked into apps (not a big deal for new stuff, certainly an issue for older, less supported goodies).

What competition? Android has the same multitasking implementation.

WM, Android, Palm Pre, to name a few. Perhaps Android's implementation varies from model to model and/or from OS kernel to kernel, but Android's implementation today is far from 'the same' as Apple's. I was preparing a rather lengthy and admittedly off-topic response citing comparison articles and slotting in some screen caps of my own set up (which cannot be reproduced in Apple's stock software environment and has some excellent parallels with other, better mobile implementations on other devices), but honestly, it's just not a topic for this thread. Better served in the JB thread in the OT, methinks. But regardless, there are better breakdowns and write ups available out there for reading.

Ok so I know someone already made a topic or posted about this, prolly Astrolad, but is there any table game, like Carcassone, with easy to understand mechanics and great multiplayer structure?

Edit: by table games I meant Board games

I've got three stars in every level on Cut The Rope but it didn't unlock the achievement for finishing the Gift Box, on Crystal or Game Center. Annoying!

You can try playing the last level of the Box you didn't get the achievement for and pressing "next level" at the completion screen. That worked the one time it happened to me.

Has anyone here played Blocks Mania? It's a fun little game where you slide your yellow block character around to collect stars and reach the exit (marked with an X). The trick is, when you slide your block, he doesn't stop until he hits an obstacle.

I've been playing through the game (which recently got a Game Center update), and I haven't had too much trouble with it. Until I reached Pack 4, Level 8. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to grab the last star.

For those not familiar with the game, here are the rules that this level follows:

  • Brown boxes stop your character.
  • Blue tubes automatically redirect your block.
  • Sliding through fire causes you to automatically burn through the next brown box that you hit, and you won't stop until you hit another obstacle.
  • The key is needed to open the locked door.
  • The glowing, circular tile is a warp. Touch one and you'll pop out of the other one, traveling in the same direction.
  • Flying off-screen results in death.
Has anyone cleared this level? Either I'm missing something obvious or this level is glitched.

Samurai is currently the only other one that meets all those qualifications (on iOS).

Do you guys have any plans for updating your titles for Retina?

So I'm thinking about buying one of these Apple devices, but I've got a few questions about things (I've tried googling this stuff, but I get a whole bunch of answers that go over my head).

1. The new iPod Touch is compatible with all the current iPhone 4/3GS/3G games, right?

2. Do I need to install iTunes to transfer music from my PC to the device? The last time I used iTunes on my PC I wanted to hurt myself.

3. What do I do when I run out of storage space? Delete stuff?

4. For those with larger hands, are you finding playing the games with it difficult?

5. The vouchers stores sell, those aren't only for music right?

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. Yes. Or manage your data in iTunes.

4. Depends on the person and the game. I don't have problems, personally, but I don't usually buy dpad platformers.

5. iTunes credit can be used for anything.

Hey guys just bought a new iPhone 4 and i've been playing Words with Friends and Doodle Buddy a lot with my friends and am really loving it.

Are there any other online/social multiplayer games like the two mentioned above? I just want some other games that i can play with my friends while i'm at work/school etc.

Anyone buy Monster Feed yet? It's a TD game being compared favorably to The Creeps, which I love.

Is Monster Feed the full name of it? I can't seem to find it in the Canadian App Store.

iTunes haters are pretty funny. Its honestly not that bad.

My PC is pretty crappy, and when I tried using iTunes it would either crash, or stay in a perpetual state of not responding. I ain't putting up with that when using Windows Explorer is fine.

It's apparently an iPad only game, called Monster Feed HD. I assumed there was an iPhone version since it's called HD. Anyway, there's a lite version, I'm going to check it out.

In my experience using both an iPad and iPhone I find that if you plan to get an iPad, you will need to connect to iTunes much less. Maybe once every couple weeks or less often than that.

With the iPhone, I hook it up every day since I sync podcasts and new music to it regularly, but music is hardly what I use the iPad for. The iPad is typically much more autonomous than the iPhone or iPod touch.

So, yeah, if you had planned on getting an iPad, iTunes may not be a deal breaker. For an iPhone, it may still be so.

Keep in mind also that iTunes 10 has improved performance, for some users, compared to 7 & 8. Those were the slowest versions of iTunes ever released. Ever.

It's the worst product Apple has, and I pay for a MobileMe account, so yeah.

It's bloated, un Mac like, carbon, fucks up my text encoding, has too many settings, and does not properly support drag and drop. Oh, and the apps management has a scroll area in a scroll area, which in my book is stupid. Oh, and I have lost my flash card status 4 times (thousands of hours gone).

It's not the worst song management software in the world(I hope), but it is the piece of software that gives me the most headaches.

it's pretty good for the price on ipad, that's for sure.

Universal update for Samurai is out. Really fun tile-laying board game that has asynchronous netplay. PM me or post in the Carc thread if you get it and want some GAF games.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/reiner-knizias-samurai/id386828321?mt=8

Just played a quick game on the iPad and it looks quite nice as a universal app. They actually changed a bunch of the art on the ipad, which was surprising as it's unchanged on iPhone 4.... but it still looks good on both platforms.

Still feeling totally incompetent when I play against gaffers, but having lots of fun. PM if you want to get a game going.

First off, excellent games fellow Bris-GAF member. Second, why is the promo code for a copy of the game only for US residents? I always see competitions for promo codes only open for US people. Surely you can get some promo codes for different regions, like Australia?

I tried Carcassonne on a friend's iphone today. The game seems pretty hard because I lost to the easy servant bot :lol . I was winning right until the end when all his meeple generated points for some reason. I'm assuming unfinished constructions award points. Might see if Samurai is easier for me to pick up!

Oh and +1 for Time Geeks! Presentation is lovely and it looks superb on an retina display device.

Not 100% on this, because I'm not sure what happens when you bump into the left side of the blue tube next to the key. But assuming it stops you like a wall, the following should work:

Right (up through tube), left, down, left (through fire, through tube, grab key), left (through tube), right (bump into tube), down (grab star!), right, up, left (through key block, through warp to exit!)

Guys, Heeelp please

I have an Ipod Touch 2nd gen

It is not working

I have plugged it in to charge and the battery picture comes on, but when I try to power it on it does not have any of it.

I have tried to power it on with the 10 second press of the power on button and select buton but that just seems to reset the device. I plug it back into the USB wall plug and still not good.

I even let it charge over night

I changed apple cable as well and even tried the USB on my PC, which is USB 2.0

Is the Battery shot?

..and if so how hard/expensive is it going to be to replace?

I got back into playing pocket legends since I stopped playing months ago, wow they improved it a lot since then :D still an awesome pocket sized dungeon crawler and free, to an extent.

Something about playing mmo games on my touch I just love, who needs that jungle? :P

It's an apple thing, all devs get 50 keys or something but they only work on US profiles, why? no idea.

Basically you are toast. Battery is dead and Apple will not replace it for cheap. Happened to me 2 times already.

And yes.. you can try and replace the battery yourself with some kit you find on the internet. I guess you might be successful and it certainly will be cheaper. Results may vary though.

Damn it, you got it! I completely got stuck at the "go right and bump back into the tube" part (it does indeed stop you). Clearly I had been staring at the board for too long and lost sight of what was in front of me.

Thanks for the assist!

Yeh i bought the Battery and replacement kit for £12...not bad seeing as apple quoted £70 odd

I have the instructions and tbh it sounds luke it will be hard work to replace, but it's better than having no touch at all.

I may even get a replacement screen while I am there as this has had a crack in it for some time

2g touch right? hardest part is removing the screen cover because there's no screws and you have to break the rubber seal around the glass, worth it since your pod is dead without a working battery anyway.

Does anyone know how to move my highscores and achievements from Crystal to Game Center? I've almost cleared all of Cut The Rope, but I started playing before getting Game Center. Angry Birds does a great thing where the first time you boot the game after installing Game Center, it transfers all the achievements you previously unlocked to Game Center at once.

It's more like Escape Velocity Nova and Starcraft II since it's top down(well, isometric), but if you like space trading games, you'll love it. I need to finish it, I got about halfway through and was distracted by other games. I really enjoyed what I played of it.

I double dipped and bought the iPad and iPhone version, by the way. iPad is way better.

Video's kinda squished and it's actually from an older version of the game so it'll look better when it's actually on your device. ;)
Oh shit Blind Guardian song. Day fucking one!

It doesn't actually transfer any achievements, it just looks at your save data and checks if you've reached any of the needed goals... I've never used any achievement service other than Game Center and I still unlocked a ton of achievments when I got the Game Center update for Angry Birds.

Are the Game Center achievements with Cut the Rope bugged? I got all 300 stars, but am missing some of the achievements that I should have (completing a couple of the boxes, 150 stars, and 300 stars).

Amazing game by the way, definitely my favorite iPhone game. Can't wait till they update it with more content :D

It's a terrible and cruel Apple thing. They really need to give developers global promo codes so the rest of the world can be in with a chance :(

The heavy metal robot unicorn game looks win!

So, what happened to TapDefense? I can't find it in the (Canadian) store anymore.

Anyhow, I have a question I've always wondered about. Say you have the Lite version of an app and then you purchase the full version; does your progress in the Lite version get transferred to the full version?

I think so.

I'm missing the one for cutting three ropes at once, even though I have the achievement for cutting five ropes (so obviously I should have that one too).
