The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT2| Part II

I tried Katamari on my Iphone 4 recently and really enjoyed it. I believe the latest update added game center and retina display. Even when I was playing it on my 3G I still enjoyed the slowed down game pace. I remember being disappointed that the larger levels were so limited in size, but that didn't take away from my overall enjoyment.

I have katamari as well, it does now have gc, but no retina. I've only played the first two levels, it plays fine, however I must admit I was disappointed by the size of the Takeda house. And it is sad there are only 6 levels, but if you need a katamari fix, thus is definitely the cheapest way to get it.

Edit: yeah stitch, it's been about a year and half since the lite version has been updated.

The Takeda house got to me because I felt like I picked up every thing inside but still didn't have enough to make it past the bottles. The game also seemed to grind to a halt when ever I ran into the comforter on the table.

Still overall great game, that just ground me gears.

Man oh man... I love playing Espgaluda2 & DDR every now and then but I feel like I'll never fully 'get' these games. The eyecandy is incredibly enjoyable but there's too much complex gameplay and weird stuff going on for me. (why oh why must I play as flying women who transform into men when they are 'awakened' in espgaluda)

Arcade 'bomb' mode on DDR comes closest to what I'd want the games to be but it still doesn't conpletely do it for me. It's kinda frustrating cause there's much I really love about em.

Saving on OpenFeint is freaking great, now i can switch between my ipad and iphone. Gamecenter should have this option.

I got Assault Squadron because of the Halloween sale and it is awesome. My new favorite iOS shmup right next to Dodonpachi.

EDIT: Well, after playing it some more, it's definitely not nearly as good as Dodonpachi but it's still great for a buck.

Did anyone like Texting of the Bread? It seems like a good TOTD ripoff but I haven't seen anyone mention it.

Is that new? Specific to that one title?

Not sure but it was not in galaxy on fire 1 but it is on number 2, so case i move to an ipad or even the ipod touch i can use the same save file from openfeint

Jet Car Stunts went on sale to 99 cents. Anyone who doesn't have it should pick it up -- it's one of the best-looking, smoothest running games on iOS and a hell of a lot of fun. Basically two modes, one is more platforming and the other is time trial... both really addicting.

I guess the basic way to learn the systems is to read a little about them and watch videos. If you do one or the other they can be pretty bewildering (just reading about something only helps so much, and just viewing something can be even more confusing), but taking both of those together can make it a bit easier to digest the information.

The hard part about playing those on iPhone is that to do well scoring wise you have to make use of the manual buttons (namely manual hyper and shot off in DDP and the expert mode in ESPG), and that's pretty hard compared to the standard arcade button setup.

Just got an iphone 4, what apps should I get?(already bought game dev story and sonic 4)
Espgaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection of course. If you're too cheap to get both I'd say DDP is the better one (on iPhone at least), and there's lite versions of both if you're not sure about either.

Been playing a bit of Minigore lately now that it has Game Center, and I've been wondering if additional levels are unlockable. Right now I just have the normal first level and the snow level.

Oh btw hadn't seen this posted yet but: Carmack's said Rage for iPhone will probably be released by the end of November and will be $0.99 (and $1.99 HD)! REALLY looking forward to it, as a total graphics geek most of the casual iPhone games like Angry Birds don't hold my attention much. I've really been waiting for a casual game that has amazing graphics.

The fuck? R_TYPE is on iOS? Since when?

Any good?

I like it, as do some others. Controls (of which there's 3, touch, tilt, and d-pad) eventually become an issue due to the game's insane difficulty (using touch controls somewhat obscures your view of what's going on), but it's a perfect port otherwise. You can jump to any level once you've passed the previous one, and there's a few different modes of play available.

Only way it could have been any better is perhaps if they let you run it with the phone vertically, and only used the top half of the screen, leaving the bottom half as a sort of track pad for touch controls where you aren't restricting your view of the action.

I haven't tried the d-pad controls very much, perhaps they help with the view blocking of your finger, but I just prefer the precision of the touch controls on the device.

Logged over 10 hours on Galaxy on Fire, even have an achievement for it. :lol
I kind of like these achievements, I know some people will idle for them in games but to me seeing it pop up while playing makes me think I got my money's worth :D

I still need to buy GoF2 before its price raises, just not in the full mood to play a space shooter currently.

I just want Heretic and Hexen on my iPod. :(

God dammit. I just got Game Dev Story and it's fantastic. I just wish it used more of the screen real estate, and that it had retina support.

But what the hell, how am I supposed to raise 50,000 for a license. Highest money I ever got to was 24,000 or something, and that was at year 19.

Ha. It's barely an iPhone game. I think they just took the dumb phone assets from the game it was ported from and scaled them up.

Noob :D Read the OT.

What the hell is retina support?

iPhone 4 has a display with a much higher resolution then the other iPhones. Apple named it the Retina Display, and when people ask for Retina support it is in reference to if the game has been updated/made to support the crazy high resolution in the iPhone 4, instead of just being made for the older iPhone display resolution.

I can recommend Cat Physics : )

1. Gorgeous graphics? Check!

2. Awesome price? Check!

3. Super addictive? Check!

4. Played the 50 first levels without a break? Check...! :lol

It's probably my favorite puzzle game together with Cut the Rope.

GoF2 looks really interesting but the kinda high price makes me cautious..

Edit: I mean.. I tend to only play iPhone games for like 30 minutes anyway... :lol

Edit 2: Just bought Let's Golf HD from the iTunes store thinking it was an iPhone app. It's iPad only.

I've recently picked up an iPad and this morning I discovered that I can use my iPhone as a controller and my iPad as the screen in 'The Incident'. That might be the coolest feature I've ever come across, are there any other games that do it?

Only Chopper 2 so far, and then The Incident followed.

It's amazing feature, I have no idea why more devs don't support it. Especially with the more sensitive games like Real Racing and NOVA, having a seperate controller would be brilliant.

Well if you are interested in galaxy on fire 2, you should buy it now for 6.99 because in the coming weeks the price will increase to 9.99 with universal support to the ipad, if you buy it at 6.99, universal support is upgraded automatically.

Anyways, i totally love this game, hardly any space shooters this gen on consoles so this and star battalion been my "go to" game for the while.

What was the name of a Pirates game that was mentioned some pages ago?

It had a nice comic look and reminded me of Age of Booty. Can't remember the name :|

Is Scrabble worth it, or should I just stick with Words with Friends? Also, is Galaxy on Fire 2 significantly better than the first one? I've been playing it today and it hasn't impressed me that much.

Scrabble is great for what it is. If you have facebook friends who play it that is, some people are addicted to it. I don't know how WWF's odd layout could be satisfying, to me a triple word score needs to be in the corners and far middles.

The really, really annoying thing is there's no iOS 4 support. So it takes like 30 seconds for the intro to play and the game to load every single time you make a move. But other than that, it's just about perfect.

Maybe it's just cause I grew up playing scrabble as a kid with grandparents and family, but to me, a game of scrabble needs to be on a scrabble board (or at least laid out the same way). Be like playing monopoly with all the spots changed, or any other classic game altered.

Not really feeling Age of Zombies a great deal, but bought it because I wanted to give them kudos for finally putting out a Universal app instead of splitting the iPhone and iPad versions. Also, the humour is pretty bad, but may work for the general public, I guess. Will play it a few more stages to see if it heats up, though.

Game Dev Story is so damn addictive.

My fanbase is loving such hits as 'You Fit', 'Cod of War' and the amazing story driven FPS shooter series 'Full Life'. I'm having a tough time trying to get the cash together for license fees to the Intendro Whoops, Microx 480 and Sonny Playstatus 2.

My only hate of this game is the powercuts, and people releasing games similar to mine when I've pumped so much cash into them. :( Oh and my 'Monster Punter' game flopped so hard because of my programmer Gilly Bates for her bug ridden mess!

'Can I have a go at boosting the games graphics?' she said. She failed hard and added 30 damn bugs to the game. >:[

Also, I wish the PC's market share wasn't so low, 1% ??? that's a little too low - pc gaming is clearly dead in this game. However I still managed to get a #1 hit with 'Full Life'.
