I played the 45 minute tutorial of Sim City Deluxe and found it very comprehensive, a full Sim City 2000 experience with power grids, water, zoning, the works. No problems at all, surprised people aren't liking it. Heard good stuff about Virtual City too.

Can anyone recommend a good SRPG? UniWar was an ok Advance Wars clone, but it got a bit stale after a while.

Undercroft is an awesome fix for that brings me back to might and magic days.. And for free hell can't beat that.

Try Song Summoner too, it's very polished, and while not that old school, who doesn't like a good sRPG?

Got a review build of Heroes of Kalevala from 10tons (Azkend, Boom Brigade).

It's a match 3 (Puzzle Quest mechanics) and city building hybrid. My wife completely drained the battery of our new Touch yesterday (3-4 hours at least), so I'm guessing it's pretty good. Voiced cutscenes. great-looking art. $3 for iPhone, HD version is $5.

Official site w/ screens, videos

Looks really interesting, will check it out, thanks!

Rhythm Spirit - Kinda reminded me of Parappa with little animated segments running on the bottom 2/3rds of the screen. Your ninja will be fighting a boss while the button presses represent jumping, ducking, slashing, and shuriken throwing. Fun stuff.

I like rhythm spirit but I dont have it on my iphone.
its the largest app I have. Even larger than the 35 in one appbox. Its 265.3 mb and when I have 459 other apps that could use that space, I can't justify putting it on my Iphone.

So how is that gangstar game?

And pocket frogs is soooo addicting.. Although I can't visit my girlfriends garden..anyone know why?

I had to go into work yesterday. First thing I do is break out the iPhone and look for something to play. I picked up Civilization Revolution back when it was free for a day. I hadn't played a Civ game since Civ 2 but with all the Civ 5 talk (and my computer not being able to run it) I gave it a shot.

8 Hours later I looked up and it was time to go home. Another 4 hours of playing at home and I'd say this game is well worth the $7 price tag, and to have got it for free feels almost criminal.

The lack of an offline manual stinks though. I'm completely new to Civ, and a manual-on-the-go should have been a no-brainer.

I'll be a happy owner of the iPhone 4 in the upcoming weeks and because of that I've been surfing through the app store with my 3G.

I didn't play a lot at all with my 3G aside from Phoenix Wright and lite versions of some games. Now that I'll soon have the iPhone 4 I decided it's time to step my game up.

After a some time on the app store these games caught my attention. So what do you say gaf?

Angry Birds
Dodonpachi
Espgaluda
Dungeon Hunter
Zenonia 2
Fruit Ninja
Slice it!
Chaos Rings
Soosiz
Minigore

Yeah from what I've seen over the wife's shoulder it looks great.

Their Zuma clone, Sparkle, supports Retina display too, and is great. Even more wild powers than Zuma, and while it's still no Luxor Afterlife, it's a bit of an improvement over the standard Zuma.

Cannon Cadets is currently free, an Angry Birds rip-off which i actually like being the only person in the world that finds Angry Birds annoying.

Splode is sexy as hell it just lacks gameplay, there's a big element of luck involved.

Whats the difference between normal and lite versions of games?

Both of these games are Retina display enhanced. Not a fan of Cannon Cadets, but Splode has grown on me (although I do wish there was more substance there.)

I just downloaded the windows demo of Heroes of Kalevala and I'm definitely going for the iPhone version.

So I just bought an ipod touch 4th gen 64GB to upgrade my 2nd gen. What games should I download that will really impress me from a graphics/technical perspective?

Where do you work and do you have any openings :lol

PipeRush is pretty damn good. From the people that brought you Angry Birds. Only 99¢.

Are you sure about this? The Lite version isn't Retina display enhanced...

Epic Citadel is a pretty amazing glimpse into the future.

Check out the Quest. Corny title and somewhat pricey expansions aside, it's one of my favorites on the platform.

Same publisher, but its not made by Rovio. Clickgamer/Chilingo publish millions of games.

Just wanted to make it clear ;)

it's not gaming-related, but does anybody have the netflix app working?

it closes the video as it's loading. it did this on my ipod touch 2nd gen and now on my new 4th gen. This shit is inexcusable. iOS 4.1 over here.

Good catch, it's not :( I just looked closer, and can see those pixel things, sorry!

No worries...it still looks fantastic. The icon seems updated though. :)

And I can vouch for Heroes of Kalevala being awesome. Great music, graphics (Retina), and gameplay. Love it.

I'm hopelessly addicted to Pocket Frogs.

These bitches don't want to breed an Orange Albeo Anura. :c

Me too. Great game. I bought stamp and potion packs to support the developer, and have definitely got my money's worth.

I finally dived into Zenonia after finishing up Shining Force. It's great! I didn't realize it was something of a Secret of Mana clone, even though I bought the game months ago. I like how the control scheme is minimal and streamlined.

Works great here. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it? I'm expecting an update at some point, to fix some issues people are having and hopefully spice up the interface a bit.

Any great Mahjong games out there? My requirements are Retina display at a minimum. So far, I've found Random Factor Mahjong (Full) to be quite good, but it lacks in-game music.

And on a side note, I just spotted this about Neuroshima Hex:

Solution is of course only one – universal application. In one of the future updates we will add full support for iPad and iPhone 4 (retina display). It will be free for all of Neuroshima Hex onwers. But from day of that update we’ll raise Neuroshima Hex’s price to 4,99$. It seems fair for us. Everyone of you who bought the app earlier and by doing this gave us the funds to work on updates will get the iPad version for free. Those of you who are waiting for the iPad version, because they don’t want the iPhone one or they don’t own an iPhone (or iPod Touch) will have to pay more after the premiere.

Another thing is multiplayer. To keep it short – there’s gonna be multiplayer :) We want to add it, you want to have it. Probably we’ll use Game Center for matchmaking and other stuff, but those of you who have older devices will also be able to play with you friends, but will have to invite them by e-mail. Of course, it will be asynchronous multiplayer, so playing multiple matches at a time or leaving in a middle of play will be possible.

So it will be a universal app, Retina display support, and multiplayer, but the cost will go up once this update happens...sounds like I'm going to buy it now before the update. :D

When I was waiting for a table at dinner a lady waiting next to me was playing on cannon game on her iphone. It looked like you need to shoot the cannon to knock things over, it also appears you can alter the shot by touching the cannon ball after it's already been fired. There was a city skyline in the background at it appeared to be night time. Yes, I know that is pretty vague and probably descirbes a dozen or so cannon games, but it looked fun and I wanted to try it! The graphics looked more traditional, not hand drawn like the doodle games.

This game is playable single player as well correct? Also can you do some kind of multiplayer where you pass the iphone/ipod touch back and forth?

Oh man, I'm thrilled that Game Center is gonna inadvertently reduce the number of rip-off HD apps that come out. Good job, Apple :)
So buying Neuroshima Hex to defend this decision.

Angry Birds?

No, more similar to cannon cadets.

Edit: I fail. Angry Birds =/= Must Eat Birds. That might actually be it. If not, it's something really similar.

Edit again: google image searched Angry Birds city and found that there is a night time level with a city skyline as the background. Downloaded the lite version and really enjoyed it. Thanks for your help!

The games are actually great and very well done with tons of free post game content. If you actually read the FIRST fucking line of the link you would know it is their last racing game anyways as they already have something new in development.

i dunno i think the hook champ games are counter-intuitive, redundant, achievement-age crap with bad level design

The Taiko No Tatsujin game has cleared 1 million downloads.
Dunno if I mentioned it earlier, but there is also now a single app (universal), where you can just download the song packs as add-ons. I switched to that a while ago and it works nicely.

Why can't they release it globally, grrr.

The two I recommended earlier are actually really, really good. Mahjong Artifacts and Mahjong Artifacts 2, both support retina display (double checked this time!), and have a lot of twists to the gameplay in the campaign mode.

They have an auto-zoom feature too, which makes seeing the tiles really useful, as the game automatically zooms in so you have the playing area taking up the whole screen... so as you make matches it'll zoom in closer to fill the screen as the tiles are removed... nice touch.

I hope you're right, but I'm not counting on it. I bought Neuroshima Hex right now to support this decision, though.
