Hmm... Ok that makes sense for voice. But I'm more concerned about data and customers use data on the phone more often than voice. Moreover, voice reception is not all that different on Edge but data speed is significantly slower when not on 3G. The bars could be useful—about as useful as the WiFi bars anyway.
 
Got my phone finally. My retinahs and all that.

I'm having trouble with iTunes crashing while I'm trying to sync. It got about 800 songs in and kept crashing at different points. It happened repeatedly on successive attempts. Anyone have any experience with this?

The speed upgrade from iOS4 3G is incredible.

The solution would be to leave the 3G/Edge icon. Or just make that the only icon in the first place.

So different icons/indicators for voice and data? Maybe redundant but that could clear up confusion for some people. ('Cos us folks on GSM can do simultaneous data and voice unlike those stone age phone users on Verizon and Sprint :P). I'd still appreciate the bars for showing the speed of the network though. Apps and websites often offer different quality streams depending on how fast the data connection is. When deciding to start a download it makes a difference if it'll take 5 or 15 minutes. The bars would still be useful to many people in those scenarios.

My order status online, doesn't even show it is backordered. There is a check on processing, and I'm guessing once the shipped is checked, it is on its way.

Thought mine may be different because I have to order from the ATT premier website, with my corporate discount on the bill.

Just got the Incipio feather case yesterday and I really like it. It doesn't go over the headphone jack or docking port so I can use my plugs without issue. It completely covers up the back of the phone nicely. My only minor issue is that it doesn't wrap around the front edges so if the phone falls in a very particluar angle it can chip the edge.
 
My iPhone 4 has a scratch on the screen :( I've treated it more delicately than my 3GS, so I'm unsure how this happened (no scratches on my 3GS).

Guess I'll take this opportunity and return it for a white one

Mine was like that and the phone showed up before that page changed.
 
so...anyone try using their iPhone 4 sim inside of an iPad yet?

I figure iPad in iPhone won't work since the iPhone needs voice+data, but I'm curious about the other way around. Google searches seem to be somewhat inconclusive, lol

I've not tried it, but I'm guessing if it did work there would've been loads of blog posts about it across the usual Engadget/Gizmodo/Macrumors about it. And there aren't. So it's likely a no-go.

Yep, 9.2.0.61

I rebooted to see if that would take care of it, no dice. I'm going to monitor where the problem occurs and remove the file to see if that helps.

Took a subway ride downtown for some errands and got to spend some quality time with the phone, it is blazing fast. I am very impressed. The screen is amazing. I am considering leaving the brightness at around 50%, it looks amazing as opposed to the 25% or so I had it at.
 
Fuckin' A! Reinstalled iTunes and have been going through unchecking files that may be problems to no avail. All my apps and photos are in as well as my contacts, so it's not a hard drive issue. I have the latest iTunes (64 bit). Any ideas? :|
 
Question: Is there a way to prevent all my email contacts flowing into my phone when I sync up? Everytime I sync to back everything up, I have countless email only contacts added to my contact list on the phone and have to delete it all by hand, only to have it reoccur the next sync :|

Are these contacts from gmail?
 
Sounds like yahoo does something similar to gmail where it adds frequently or recently emailed addresses to your contacts automatically.

Hmm, my gmail account doesn't do that on my iphone.

Not even frequent or recent, just everything I think. Anyone know a fix for this? It's reeeealy annoying.

Usage: 7 Hrs, 45 Min
Standby: 2 Days, 4 Hrs
Currently at 10%

Mostly spent uploading photos and video to Facebook, playing Words with Friends, and checking e-mail. Probably 5 hrs of it on Wifi and 3 hrs on 3G.
 
My iPhone 4 lasts forever on wifi on with a strong 3G signal, but fuuuuck does the battery get reamed here at work where my 3G is super spotty.

Plus, I guess Photoswapping when I'm bored at work isn't helping the battery! ;P

The battery is ridiculous on this phone.

I left home today with about 35% left and I wasn't worry about making it through the work day. I wouldn't have made it until lunch with my 3G.
 
A quick google search reveals that my problem with iTunes crashing during the syncing of music reveals that it is an issue with iOS4 and iTunes 9.2. I've seen recommendations to delete voice memos and to restart the phone, but nothing has worked. It's a little aggravating to be sure. So no one here had the problem?
 
Definitely agree on the good battery life. I'm getting three days and usually getting the 10% warning on the evening of the third day, whereas I could quite easily hit the 20% warning in one day on my 3G if I was using it relatively heavily.

LOL no, not really. I'll rarely make a call that lasts more than a few minutes on my mobile phone.

Cheaper to use my home or work phone ;)

Yeah That wallpaper thread is easily putting out great hits that I've saved and use regularly now.

I bought one of the cheap $0.99 cases thats in the OP from eBay. Arrived on Friday, and saved my iphone from a crash down the stairs on Saturday. Highly recommended for the best dollar spent on a case. Fits perfectly BTW.

I'm a little slow, where did you see that link to eBay? Need a case asap now. My standby holster case is no good for it, the thing slips out too easily.
 
What are the alternatives to cutmysim.com? The waiting time there is a bit long. I especially need a microsim adapter so I can use this card with other phones as the need may arise.
 
Hey GAF, just wondering exactly what the best video playback quality is on the iPhone 4, all I can find is this thing Apple put out:

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

Which is fine, I guess 720p, however H.264 is a video codec specifically, not a container codec, and I gather it won't just playback from any codec, any ideas?
 
Just received the black bumper I ordered from Apple on launch day today. It's really nice. The only weird thing is the bottom of the case by the dock connector seems 'squishy.' Otherwise I'm diggin' it.
