ATT hooked me up with it for cheap ($50) since I was thinking of switching to another carrier so I figured "Why not?". Plus I think iPhone 4 will be just fine for what I need. Is the 5 supposed to be a monumental upgrade?
How would anyone know?

I suppose I meant that sarcastically. It's a little silly to chastise someone for not waiting for an unknown product that may or may not be a huge improvement when a suitable device exists right now.

Unocked iPhones would be very cool. I wonder if it would be GSM phones only or if CDMA would be available too?

An unlocked CDMA phone wouldn't matter. Big CDMA carriers use ESN whitelists. Current CDMA iphones can be used on Cricket and carriers like that that flash other network's phones.

Is it tasteless of me to point out that I've been caseless since launch and my i4 is absolutely flawless?

Yeah, it probably is.

Just recently got an iPhone 4 (white) and I got some of those itty-bitty hairline scratches on the back of my phone within the short amount of time that I had it. They're really not noticeable unless there's a super bright light and you're REALLY looking hard for them. While those are kinda lame the main reason I wanted a case is because I find the phone to be super slippery at times. I was constantly worried about it sliding out of my hand (smooth skin is a blessing and a curse).

Luckily, the boyfriend hooked me up with the clear SwitchEasy Vulcan case. Can still admire the awesomeness of my white iPhone 4 while not worrying about having trouble keeping a good grip on it.

ive had my iphone since last september and never had a case for it, i NEVER put anything in the same pocket as my phone and thus far it is 100% scratch free. i can never understand why people throw coins and keys in the same pocket as their phone, its so cruel.

I never put it in my pocket/bag with anything else that could scratch it. I think it was just from having to set it down on the desk and things at work. Like I said, they really aren't visible unless you've got an intense light and you're actively looking for them.

Mainly got a case for it because it felt too slick, plus SwitchEasy gives you these cool plugs to help protect the dock connector.

Been about six months since I applied my screen protector. Bought a new one a few weeks back but haven't applied it yet. Think I'll do that tonight, as the old one is sufficiently beat up.

It's only a matter of time.

Wouldn't this be a bigger deal if you could use it on Spring and T-Mobile as well? I wonder if they are just clearing stock and/or are doing this along side the Back to School promo.
It should presumably work on TMobile at least. I'm using an official unlocked phone on TMobile (purchased in a country where they already sold unlocked iPhones).

Would an unlocked iPhone be able to be connected to Virgin Mobile? Or are there other prepaid companies with cheap $25~ plans that would work with one?

The price is high, but to me it would be worth it if I could find the right provider. One that won't try and screw me over with price for data, which is all I really need. I could get by with the smallest amount of talk time. 100 minutes a month would even be too much. But unlimited data (Like I have with Virgin) would be the bees knees.

But I would switch to whatever company has the best price and easiest switchover. I don't even care if I change numbers again. I don't have that many people in my phone anyway.

Actually, what would be really nice is if when the iPhone 5 (Or 4.5) comes out they lower the price of the unlocked iPhone 4.

That's pretty damn expensive I was hoping for like 499 and 599. I guess I'll wait to see what the iPhone 5 has to offer. Now that they are selling it unlocked maybe T-Mobile will finally get a subsidized version.

Wrapping your phone in some ugly case or clear stickers is dumb. Life your life as you should, not worrying or dedicating yourself (and thus your devices) to the 1% of the time that things could go wrong.

In the end, it's just a freakin' phone you'll replace in a couple of years.

So as I'm not going to buy the next iPhone and has decided to keep my iPhone 4 for another year, I'm looking to use it as a GPS with Navigon and music player through the car's speakers. I have been looking at something like this:

Pioneer DEH-3200UB CD Receiver with iPod Direct Control and USB Input
i3EAE.jpg

GOgroove Flexsmart X2 Advanced Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter
IGHwW.jpg

Do you think I'll be able to use the Navigon GPS app while listening to music through the speakers all through my iPhone 4 with one of these two?

I have a Sony Xplod unit and my brother has a Pioneer. On both, through USB while charging, I've ran Mapquest 4 Mobile while playing a song. When the navigation needs to talk it lowers the music. It's good because since it's USB and not just AUX it always charges your phone and controlling your music with the head unit is safer and easier than messing with a touchscreen phone imo.

Stick with the headunits with USB input and no FM transmitter. I've never had luck with them but even if they are good, being able to change music with the headunit and charge with just one plugin will be nice.

When I had an iPhone I was able to use headunit controls, I then switched to an Android phone and had to use simple AUX input. Touchscreen controls while driving suck suck suck. Now I have bluetooth built in my car so I can control music with the factory buttons so that problem is gone and I can say I'll never go back.

psh, dropped my 3GS while drunk so many times. Still looks and works great. They don't make these things flimsy. But if you want to get upsold on accessories, go for it. Might as well put some stick on gems on there too to absorb the shock.

WHAT A BASTARD!

I just synced my itunes to google contacts and it's overwritten the contacts in my phone with a year old version from google contacts?!?!?! isn't this meant to go the other way round.

And it's saved it to the latest backup, is there anyway to restore from one backup back????

I do my best to keep things separate but sometimes I forget what's where.

If you're a decent techie you can find the SQL lite db and look it up there. Google it, I did it a few months ago

Are there any scratches on the camera lens?

Just got my iPhone 4 and it's pretty sweet! However the signal issue with holding the sides is no joke. Anyone have a case recommendation to get around this? I was going to just get the Apple bumper but my friend who has one said it sucks pretty hard.

The bumper does a good job of offering some protection without ruining the design of the phone. But mine broke after a few months, and I've never felt the need to replace it. I just go caseless.

This is a great feature. In addition may I suggest that the person turn your notifications off when using GPS. Especially on long trips, and if your listening to music through the iPod function and using GPS at the same time. They get in the way, constantly being interrupted by texts and email chimes.

Thanks for your answers regarding the Pioneer for Music+GPS, really helpful!
So if I go get the Pioneer one, will I be able to take it out of the dashboard and with me when I leave the car? Just so it won't be stolen when I'm away.

Hey folks, hoping you can help.

I'm from the UK and I'm going to NYC for one week. I can't use mobile data as I will be charged a fortune.

Is there any way of using the phones gps capability without using data. Is there an NYC map app that I can use?

Thanks

There are a ton of free NYC subway maps. Also, the Navigon and TomTom apps for the US have all of the maps stored within the app, thus not using data.

Speaking of notifications... I was never bothered by the notification system until I saw the presentation of the new system from WWDC. It looks so much better it's ridiculous. Now I'm bothered by the popups and chimes every day, lol. Plus, I now suddenly hate how if you close a notification because you don't want to switch apps that second, then your easy shortcut is gone. The new "flick down list" is going to be so superior.

Hmm...okay. I'll skip that one for sure. I'd prefer to have a sturdier case, and I can't go caseless. The phone literally drops calls if I hold it, and I can't get texts if I'm holding it in my hand. I was thinking this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OQUD9A/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Wait... I listed the Pioneer CD Receiver with iPod connection up there for cars, but I just found out it's from Amazon.com, will it work in an european car (Danish specifically) ?
