Game related, I back off what I said about just picking up on Kyo and Iori. Ash is pretty damn fun along with Athena. Guess I better try out all the characters before making a final conclusion.
Oh she's the boxer chick. Yeah she was cool. I was never really good with her, but I always had her in my squad because she was fun to play with.

I got into KOF iwth XI because I took a liking to her design actually. Didn't know she's a MILF, she just got 100x more awesome :D
And 'El Diablo Amarillo Ramon' loves her.

I am absolutely loving this game so far. Yeah, it is "missing" stuff, like a boss character or more modes of play...but considering the game is a complete HD overhaul I don't really care at all. These sprites are gorgeous. Going into practice mode with each individual character just to see their animations isn't something I cared about doing in SF4 or BB. One of the first things I noticed is that a lot of characters have stripped down move lists, but it doesn't bother me too much and again, considering everything thing in this game is all-new I give SNK a pass in that department because I'm sure they will continue to add on to the game in future versions.

To be honest, I kind of see this game as SNK's SF3: New Generation. The game is fantastic but I think after a couple of iterations it will really start to shine. Keep in mind we need to buy enough copies to make sure we actually get some sequels. I am kind of worried about that because this game couldn't have been cheap for SNK to produce and if it bombs...well then who knows.

Given that it trended on twitter, I think sales aren't going to be too bad. Really, if Ignition wants it to do well, all it has to do is pay to get to be a game at Evo- replace 3S or something.

I was never a big Mai or Vanessa fan, personally.

If we're picking absent female cast members, I'd rather have Blue Mary, Chizuru, B. Jenet, Vice, Yuri....gah, there's just so many for them to get to.

Personally I do hope they drop DLC characters. "Splitting the community" be damned. I just don't want to have to wait until XIII to see more....

Got some great matches in with a friend this morning. Game's just a blast to play. I'll never undermine the notion that it feels incomplete - it does - but I also can't deny that I really enjoy this sucker. I don't really care if they are balanced for tournaments or whatever, those critical counters are a blast. Everything just feels super smooth and rapid - and, I know some find it petty, but I still can't quite get over just how good what is there actually looks. Every time I play I see new details in the work.

I guess on some level, it also just feels so good to have something new from SNK. There's still a big part of me that just can't help but love this company, even though they're such bastards to us in return.

Got to try BlazBlue for the first time as well, as my friend had a copy so we gave it a spin. I'm honestly just really confused by the constant comparison now.

It definitely reminds me of Guilty Gear...I'll say that at least. If you like Guilty Gear more than KOF, I can easily understand how you'd tip that way on the choice. But I really don't see how they are substitute products for fighting game fans, as I do think that division is pretty wide personally. Being indifferent to the gameplay differences of BlazBlue and KOF simply because of story mode inclusion or whatever just seems completely foreign to me. Maybe it's just because I personally have such distinctive tastes.

As far as sprite work, though, I'm 100% convinced there are significantly more frames in KOF than BB. There's almost twice as many characters with a much more fluid animation fill to boot. Once you add in those incredibly detailed backgrounds, it becomes obvious how much more work has gone into the art of KOF.

And really, that seems to be the story here for KOF12. The limitations of a stretched-out art department. More moves = more frames, Boss characters = more frames, More backgrounds = more frames. It all comes down to the fact that they couldn't keep up with the demands of redrawing their entire legacy in one stretch.

That's not excusing the fact that we, as paying customers, went out to the store and dropped $60 on a game that doesn't quite feel finished, but I do think it explains from a logical perspective what's going on here.

But, frankly, for me personally, and my tastes - a "preview edition" of KOF is more fun and entertaining than most of the other full products that are out there. I wouldn't dare to expect a lot of other people to feel the same way, but I'm pretty damn happy with the purchase.

Sad thing is the best character in that is the one in the ring you're not talking about. Heavy D! is awesome and needed to be in more games.

I wonder if since they have this whole new system/engine in place if they'll get back to yearly iterations? I hope so.
NO.

quick question..where do the replays go when you upload them? I wish you could save them and upload HD versions on youtube.

Angel is the only good thing from KOF2001.
She is cute and has The People Elbow as MAX2 on KOF2002UM

And what can i say about Shermie besides : <3

For some time now, I've felt that KOF XII seemed like a beta. The game comes off as unfinished in several areas-- some characters don't animate as well as others, move sets for some characters feel limited, there's a lack of game modes, an end boss, and only six stages to fight on, with two of them being palette swaps. The game doesn't even have character taunts!

The lack of clarification on the game's netcode also had me worried, and unfortunately, while KOF XII's netcode is better than SNK's Xbox Live Arcade fighting game releases, it still pales in comparison to the competition. Hopefully the forthcoming patch will fix all of this.

Playing KOF XII offline and online feels like two different fighters. Offline, the game is fast and furious, with incredibly responsive control and an great character animation. The game plays smoother than any KOF before it, and the added critical counters, which thus far do not feel like they break the game in any way, plus changed-up CD attacks give the game a type of "focus attack" and "parry" system. The way that characters' attacks can also cancel each other out also gives the game a fresh feeling. It's cool to see a physical attack cancel out a projectile, for example.

XII's visuals are a mixed bag. The backgrounds look fantastic, and there's some trademark SNK humor going on in them; it comes off like a Metal Slug game on steroids, and while the character sprites are HUGE and very detailed, they are also incredibly pixellated, and filtering them only makes them appear too blurry. Comparing both versions of the game, I find that the PS3 version actually looks a little better than the 360 version does. The game's animation is very well done, but I don't know if it tops the now decade-old Third Strike; some characters definitely look more animated than others. While all of the sprites go well together, Athena looks a little bizarre, as her head (and eyes) are massive in size compared to all of the other characters.

I want to reserve judgement on this game until the patch is released. Right now I am very impressed with the game play overall, but it needs to have good netcode to make it a complete package. If the patch does fix the game's current (horrible) problems, I'd recommend KOF XII despite all its shortcomings, but if not, stick with Street Fighter IV and/or BlazBlue, and wait for the next (finished) iteration of the game. Here's hoping!

It kinda sucks being a KOF fan, I've always had to try and impress/justify why KOF is a good game. XII once again stands on shaky ground being that it's at best a beta rather than a complete game. I'll avoid the complaints about content (story/extras/taunts).

Graphics: The main problem/reason why this game is so incomplete is the graphics, too much emphasis on it. Seeing how they mentioned the time it takes to create the characters and the end result with 480p sprites scaled to HD resolutions it seemed like almost a brute force approach to making them. The main appeal is the shading used, but to most people it is less noticeable compared to resolution and smoothness of the animation. Like you said the animation is kind of hit and miss.. its hard to tell if its actually better than the previous games like Mark of the Wolves or SF3.

I'm also a little disappointed that the music has sort of reverted to KOF97 with ambient styled tracks rather than character tracks they also lack that punch/styled that they finally got back with KOFXI and KOF2002UM.

Sseeing how we got "2" more characters for the home version maybe they should have just made Mai instead. ( but maybe the extra bounce animation would take too much time and resources )

Ok, I have both versions now. And from what I have been playing, the 360 versions online is playing a lot better for me.

I've played a number of games online and was wondering if any of you experienced this situation as well...

EVERYONE picks either Robert, Joe, Terry, or Kim.

I played in a string of fights where about 5 people selected nothing but those listed.

Ah good. I'll start with Ash then and destroy. Robert I'll make the exception though cause he's brutal. Joe and Terry? Snorefest. Kim I'm keeping an eye on. Till I get more hands on play with the guy, I'll keep my reserves. Ash, Robert and Athena have been my team so far. I may switch out Athena for someone else here soon. Ryo is a huge possibility. He's got some of Roberts moves so I'm down for that. Leona is another I may add. Still working out the kinks.

My current team is Ralf, Leona and Shen Woo. Im glad they arent that popular at the moment. I hate mirror matches.

Now that they got a bunch of sprites done for this one, they can recycle for a couple years with a few changes and make some really packed titles hopefully. This is cool and all, but just feels like quick arcade port. More meat plz!

Ralf and Leona are pretty popular in my book. OFcourse, I'm sure you mean KOFXII players who have no clue abt KOF series.

Well in KOF12, it seems that there are a lot of newcomers to the game. In past KOF games they surely were. I see a lot of Iori, Kyo, and Terry online. I also like to mix it up with Robert and Ryo. They are beastly.

Hopefully we will at least get a more complete-feeling XIII next year. XII reminds me so much of '94, and '95 added in pretty much everything the game needed to feel "complete," so...

One positive thing that can be said about the "Dream Matchness" of the game is that it least has those newsroom cut scenes when playing arcade.

Seeing as how it's doubtful we'll get another new set of redrawn sprites down the road, these sprites are going to keep looking worse and worse as others games' visuals improve. It's going to end up being like what happened with the original set of sprites all over again. I would have rather have had less detail if it meant 720p sprites.

I'm also a little disappointed that the music has sort of reverted to KOF97 with ambient styled tracks rather than character tracks they also lack that punch/styled that they finally got back with KOFXI and KOF2002UM.

:lol

The bottom line is that this game is only going to last for a short time in the grand scheme of things. KOF XIII or a KOF XII update is going to come out, address all this game's problems, and we're all going to forget about it and move on. I don't want to make it sound like XII sucks shit though; it plays great, and when it boils down to it, that's what really counts. But to me the online is a big deal and it needs to be fixed ASAP.

2002um has more apeal than this

Most people seem to agree with you; 2002 UM is the more popular arcade game to my knowledge. I think the next issue of Arcadia is supposed to come with a DVD featuring 2002 UM combo movies, in fact.

Certain characters seem to work better in lag-filled matches. I've come across tons of Terrys, Ryos, Joes, and Kims so far.

My team is currently Kim/Leona/Andy, but I'm thinking about switching out Kim for Ash. Also been messing with Mature, but she feels (hate to keep using this word, sigh) incomplete.

Its weird too see so many nerds jerking off to Mai. A fictonal character.

I also agree Vanessa is a better character overall cause of playstyle.

Its not that weird considering people bought enough copies of Dead or Alive Xtreme Volleyball for them to go ahead and put out a sequel. Same nerds spewing the "no Mai no buy" bullshit. :lol

Maaaaaaan. The copy I was barrowing was taken back today. Dammit! I was starting to get the feel for the game. Ah well. I'll have it by Thurs or Fri of next week. Here's hopin for patch fix that does it job! I was facing some player matches with yellow and blue bars on others and it was still pretty laggy. A shame really. A real damn shame.

Yeah, because Capcom fans would buy SF if they didnt put in Chun-li, Ryu and Ken. Right ?

The true fans would. Third Strike is still going strong and 75% of that cast is new. I understand if you have other game play related issues for not buying a game but its sad if the only thing that would stop you from buying a game is because they leave out the character with bouncy boobs.

Yeah people saying no Mai no buy are stupid, and most likely are just joking, at least i hope. Mai is a well known and popular character, and its understandable that some people dont like the fact that Mai isnt in KoF12 for whatever reason.

I actually used Lucky as part of my sandbag team in tournies- I think Keits uses him in his primary team.

Brian in UM got a massive buff- from bottom to upper mid.

If there are characters DLC, they would be idiots to not add Mai, for a high price. I can see Mai cost more than other possible DLC chars :lol

When SF3 came out one of the reasons it was considered a bomb to many was because the entire cast was pretty much dropped, eventually with the future versions they put out it grew in reputation and Chun Li's return was a big thing.

I'm hoping for Yamazaki!

On this weeks Listen Up! KOFXII was discussed a while, but it doesn't feel right without Shane there. They didn't seem to understand why the roster was so small in comparison to say '98 and didn't talk very much about the gameplay itself.
