So from this thread I have gathered:

-Zombies/not Zombies.
-Trips to Walmart for Tampons.
-#dontchangeEllie

Sounds about right for GAF.

Naughty Dog, eh? Color me surprised.

And the Uncharted 2 director is behind this? Sign me up!

The thread title is incorrect. The lead designer of Uncharted 2 (Neil Druckmann) is the creative director of this game. Amy Hennig was the creative director of all three Uncharted games. Seems I misunderstood the use of the term "director".

Not unbelievable.

But I'll buy it :) Could definitely see similarities in the graphics between this and Uncharted 3. Hopefully they don't stretch their arms towards all the walls and have issues with sound cutting out.

Damn, it was a really nice trailer. The big surprise and wildcard was really Naughty Dog, and now I'm fascinated and want to know a lot more. If it's release date is another two years from now (which it usually inevitably is) then I'm going to be disappointed.

There's been similar mentor + student / parent + son, in post-apoc world templates in movies.

The Road
Stakeland (awesome movie that only made $20,000 in the US)

I don't think it's been done in games before, where the dynamic is more male + dame in distress (RE escort missions). Looking forward to this shit!

yes. reference to the road seems obvious. Even the character kinda looks like Viggo Mortensen...

I loved the book, loved the movie... and with ND , i know the game will be on par to these standards.

Hopefully they bring GAF members in to do the controls before the game releases rather than after.

The thread title is not incorrect. Yes, Amy Hennig was the creative director of Uncharted 2 but Bruce Straley was the game director of Uncharted 2 and is the game director of The Last of Us.

So... absolutely NO ONE on GAF saw Naughty Dog as a developer coming right?

Also, yay! Ellen Page!

Pre-rendered in-game footage, like U3 cutscenes.

Meaning, game will look incredible, but exactly like that.

Actually, not pre-rendered. Rendered by the PS3, as it said in the intro. Unless you think they'd spend precious words saying 'we're playing a video on a PS3 >_<'

Oh, right. When somebody says "director" within the context of video games I assume they're referring to the creative director since it's their vision the team is bringing to life.

eh, i'm interested as long as it's more valve-y and less naughty dog-y

If you don't like Naughty Dog, why are you coming into a thread about their next game and intentionally shitting in it? Why not just play a Valve game? I'm not a fan of Valve games, but I'm not gonna go into the HL3 reveal thread and be all "I'm interested as long as it's more naughty dog-y and less valve-y"

You highlighted "character-driven story" and replied to it, did you just highlight that for no reason?

well i find the premise interesting. i think there are ways to tell a story through gameplay and design, and it'd be cool to see them step outside of their comfort zone and not rely on cutscenes and guided experiences (although valve is guilty of this too, sometimes). i'm kinda surprised they're working on a brand new ip for the ps3 this late in the game, so i'm hoping that it will be really different.

I was thinking that ND would wait until the next generation before they went the 'realistic' look. They've been the one developer not to shoot above their weight each console generation, deliberately making Uncharted stylised, with stylised characters (which admittedly have become more realistic as the games go on).

However, they must think their engine is finally up to it. Good on them.

Was going to say Naughty Dog was the developer as soon as the hint in Uncharted 3 was spotted....

These are the words of that kid in class who always exclaimed "That's what I was going to say!" whenever somebody else was chosen to answer a question and did so correctly. :p

You're talking about story mechanics. And I would argue that 75% of Uncharted's story telling is done through means of gameplay, the remaining 25% is used to engage the subtleties of the character interactions (like facial animations) that could only be achieved through cutscenes or switching to a first person view

Ingame story telling is very limited in a third person game, but I'd say they have achieved a fine balance

It's not that I have any issues with Ellie's character... but I also don't understand what people are drooling over.

Elaboration please? :-/

Now you got me curious.

This trailer gets better and better the more I watch it and focus. They can pull off some amazing things, but the moment the camera went outside, I was more impressed than I expected to be. It reminded me of the scenery in I Am Legend which was probably the best part about that movie...lol. The feeling of Earth taking back its land in abandoned cities and an urban wilderness of sorts to explore.

I hope this comes out tomorrow as a surprise release. Dream big, right?

8/8/2010 Blackace was here
I think the guy responsible for uncharted 1 and 2 heat reaction and enemy's animations is working on this because I m sure he wasn't involved in U3

Just wow. :O

First, Naughty Dog, wth, so awesome. Them graphics as well, and omg this looks like an amazing game! I'm just... yeah... omg awesome! :D

Eh, I don't know the trailer seemed to show that they behave exactly like that, running around simply looking for a victim to latch onto. But it looks like there will be different types of threats to deal with in the game, the mindless fungal people grabbing on to you like traditional zombies, and the survivor scavengers that are basically human like you, so it should break up the monotony.

Any number of creatures, monsters, demons and/or animals could act the same in a world with a lack of food(perhaps even humans if food is scarce enough and in the right setting).

They seemed to act more like a pact of animals than zombies, the way two of them feed on the corpse while the third one scouted the area.

How was ND able to develop two games at the same time ?

I thought they were all working on U3. Does it mean that they now have two teams ?

totally glad you've figured out our entire narrative and gameplay mechanics from a two and a half minute cinematic trailer. i was worried it wouldnt be evident. groan.

Respond to one post in the thread and that's the one you chose?

one tiny piece of info please
