The Left 4 Dead thread of information and HOLY CRAP ZOMBIES THEY'RE EVERYWHERE

No, you can pass her.

When I was playing, I tried it.

Basically, your characters automatically speak, so all of a sudden someone's character will say "Shhh there's a witch around. Flashlights off!"

To sneak around her, you have to move silently, with your flashlight off and try not to disturb her. During my playtime, 3 times we met the witch we just moved straight through. However, one time the game decided to spawn a witch at a new position, so I'm like "Alright guys, let's try sneaking past" and everyone said okay. I was the first in line, and I turn my flashlight off and started creeping. I accidently got too close though, so she slowly got up and looked straight into my soul, at which point I wanted to get the first shot off so I blasted her in the face once before she owned me and all of my teammates.

"Whoops" was all I could say to my teammates :lol

Fuck, that's so awesome. I need this game now.

IGN UK is reporting that the demo of Left 4 Dead for both systems are being produced, but there is no information on the actual date. Also, pre-order via Steam will be available in October with speculation of a pre-launch beta in retrospect to the TF2 beta.

Demo is a brilliant move for the 360. I bet (and pray) it'll grab hold of users who don't frequent forums and buy gaming magazines. Then the fray will be wonderful, despite the twelve year olds with mics.

The playable Zombie mode is definitely in the game. On tomorrow night's GTTV we reveal it for the first time (and show footage -- yes you can vomit on someone).

Seriously I can't wait for the 360 demo. Can't fucking wait.

That is good news. :D

Sweet!

I played as a zombie back in 2007 and can't wait to see how they changed it.

Left 4 Dead, the only time when it's encouraged to vomit on your friends. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Sounds great. I want to learn more about Hunter mechanics. Hopefully they kept wall hopping in the game.

I'm curious how the story telling is going to work. I mean Gabe said it is on the emotional impact as Half Life... That's quite a high bar you set for yourself Valve, but I know you can make it :D

My most anticipated title of the year. Sign me up for co-op when the official thread hits - going to waste many hours playing this.

Edit: In the extended trailer, the grizzled Army-jacketed old man says "Jesus Mary and Joseph". Possibly an homage to Day of the Dead? They must know their zombie flicks. /loser.

I was kind of hoping they'd use both the new designs and the old designs. The new designs look like the characters on z-day, when the shit's just gone down. They could use the older design for a scenario somewhere down the line, after they're all tattered and bearded and greasy from months of fighting for their lives. That was something about Freedom Fighters I always really liked, the way the character's progression from clean cut to battle-worn guerrilla gave the overall experience more weight.

Either way November can't come soon enough.

edit: whoops, the character discussion was a page back :o

I just want to say that I thought Freedom Fighters was a fucking awesome game.

But now we must discuss zombies!

Yes, yes it was. Thinking about it now has me all antsy about putting it back on my pc. It's high on my list of games to replay before the zompocalypse.

Hmmm, looks like there is no Facial Animation... (Lip Syncing, etc...)

Oh well, it's all about the gameplay, just wish they had it,
cause the Facial Animation in TF2 was awesome.

I know they're 2 different type of games, but the survivors always seem to be talking.
Just feels that shape animation tech they used for TF2 was forgotten.

Anyways, the game will still be my personal GOTY.

There will be facial animation. That trailer was from E3.

Something in the trailer that won't be in the game: full cinematic motion blur. I think that was just a heavy post-processing effect that's still too much of a burden for the most popular PC hardware. My head would asplode if they find a way to put it in because it's so very very sweet.

Ok. Some thing is wrong with me. 3 months ago I saw this game as something mediocre being overhyped. Well scoot over cause I'm hopping aboard this hype train. Everthing I've read and seen in the last 2 months makes me cry that this isn't a September/October release... November is too far away.
Anyway I dont think Ive ever done a 180 like this on a unreleased game since the original Half Life. (I admit I thought SIN was gonna be better.)

The footage shown in there was shot fairly early on, and the characters didn't have facial rigging set up for it.

I promise you that there is facial animation in the game. It's what Valve spent a hell of a lot of time working on for HL2, and in none of their games are they wasting it.

Yeah that's what you would think...

Split screen was mentioned multiple times here, when I asked a while ago and then did some research, it looked like 2P split screen. Has that changed? I know 4P is a lot to ask for, but seriously it would make it an awesome party game.

Considering the TF2 guys went in and redesigned the characters it's a fair assumption that the character's weren't rigged and skinned for facial animation when they showed them. That stuff takes time and it's hardly outside of Valve's reach or own high standards.

Considering the dev said it in the L4D chatroom on steam, I would believe it.

And I've also played the game three times (including one time as a zombie well over a year ago before the game was even announced)... So yes, it IS what I would think because I know :lol

Man, I was set on getting the PC version, but now I'm leaning toward the 360 version... arghh... decisions decisions.

Dude, get PC.

PC gets updated like once a week, and you get the DLC first and a lot quicker.

360 TF2 for example has gotten none of the new maps and achievements add-ons, whereas the PC already has had 3 big updates, with more to come.

Valve already said that their Left 4 Dead support for the 360 Version will be much better than their Team Fortress 2 support.

pc version FTW! native 1080p everything maxxed out come on guys even on crappy hardware you will manage that, source engine ROCKS

People that say the 360 version is on par with PC,
know nothing about the mapping and modding community on SOURCE.

Seriously, it's worth it just for that reason alone.

SO GOOD!

I'm getting a new PC just for this game. :D

Yeah, but PC support will be better and all the extra content will be free.

PC for sure. 60fps, scalable resolution, you can still play on your tv with your 360 control if you want to. Also if you still want to play the game in a year or two you will still be able to get a game with the pc version, hell people are still playing quake 2 online. :lol

I wonder if Zombie Master or Zombie Panic! Source will get Left 4 Dead mods. Because those two zombie mods are so great, but I'd like to see them mod a proper zombie game instead of just Half Life 2 Deathmatch.

Left 4 Dead will be supported by the Source SDK, won't it? It's going to be fun using Hammer to make Left 4 Dead maps and scenarios.

Can't wait for this game.

As someone also said, you get all of the community maps on PC. I'm sure someone will create some wierd gameplay mode for L4D (sort of like all the wierd mods for CS and TF2 like surf maps).

*Edit* But don't get me wrong, 360 will still be a good version, but you will just get a lot of extra support from Valve and extra content on the PC with community stuff.

Just my preference though. :D

I really want to get this on PC for all the reasons stated above - Free content, great modding scene, userbase will be there for years etc - but I don't know anyone outside of GAF who'll be getting this on PC. All my friends, online and off, will be getting the 360 version. I may end up buying it twice at this rate cos I'm never gonna be able choose between the two :s

Play with me on PC GAF man. I've decided to fuck my 360-owning real life friends because they'll probably be typical xbot jerks and forget about L4D in 2 weeks, moving on to whatever new game comes out and probably selling it back to Gamestop, so I'm counting on GAF for co-op radness. Remember, Gears 2 is out around the same time, and a ton of other games are coming out for 360 this fall.
I’m so torn right now! I may buy it for 360 and get it on the cheap for PC once the updates start rolling, but by then I’m sure PCer’s will have their set crews. Fuuuuck!

Friends can fuck. It's cool.

Hhahahahha, seriously though it's true. Getting 360 version here. PC version will be better no doubt.
I was being fairly serious, too! The TF2 GAF PC crew is still going and it's been a year since the game's been released. They're cool guys (except for Twig) and hey, what's wrong with making new internet friends, right?
