The Odyssey (2026) Trailer

Terrence Ross Wow GIF

Ohh dear.

Looks ok.
I just find the more grounded art direction and muted colors kind of boring, and seemingly every character being played by some well known actor is distracting.

"My dad is coming home"

Lmao

"You're pining for a daddy you didn't even know, like some sniveling bastard"
― Homer, The Odyssey (Probably, dunno, didn't read it, Chris Nolan)

I'm shocked that Nolan wrote the script for this film. The dialogue from the trailer is shite.

I watched the trailer again and I'm just not into it. The dialogue, the odd accent choices (looking at Tom Holland and Robert Patterson) the bizarre costume design (was that late medieval plate armour??), the random casting......

Nah.

Looks like a poorly edited trailer, but I can see a good film in there. I need to get around to reading the book before this releases, I recently finished The Iliad.

I read the story at different stages in my life, had colored pictures and what stuck with me was colorful, golden tones, bright yellow sand, etc. Why the hell is everything in this movie black? I mean they even took out saturation from the trees, even they are black. The beach is like Normandy D-Day...this doesn't look anything like a fantasy, its like a WW2 documentary instead about a made up story lol.

I agree that the cinematography is strongly suggesting this film is gonna be a dour, grim, depressing slog. There are a lot of themes you can pull out of The Odyssey, it doesn't INHERENTLY have to be like this. It kinda feels like the last grasp of the past decade, hold weakening, trying to stem a tide sweeping past it, leading us into (or back to?) a brighter future.

I'm not sure Nolan has ever been to Greece. He does know Greece is a real place you can visit and not some mythical land of legend, right?

Wait. So we're 1.5 months from release and they still haven't disclosed who plays Helen?
It's Lupita and they are just afraid of admitting it, right?...

So the rumours are;

Lupita Nyong'o as Helen
Elliot Page as Achilles
James Corden as Polyphemus

I hope all of them are true

As a Greek, this film is straight up offensive.

The casting is an absolute fucking disaster. The writing is painfully bad, and the performances somehow make it even worse.

The delivery feels forced, awkward, and borderline parody. It's actually embarrassing to watch.

There is nothing authentically Greek about this. No soul, no cultural weight, no respect for the mythology it's trying to represent. If they had any intention of doing this properly, they should have cast Greek actors and built something that actually reflects the depth and identity of Greek mythology.

And casting Elliot Page as Achilles? Please tell me you guys are trolling. Please. 🤮🤮🤮🤮

I feel you. It's very sad seeing Nolan going down to this level. Die a hero or else.

Maybe?

The 2004 version of Troy didn't have historically accurate armour, but it was more realistic than whatever Nolan is going for in this film?

Who is Odysseus kneeling to in this trailer? Is that supposed to be Achilles or Mycenaean Batman?

I think I'm just jaded with Hollywood attempts at films like this. Yes, I know the works of Homer are in the realms of fantasy, but this poem was written thousands of years ago about real bronze age civilizations. It could also be based on a real historical event.

I guess what I would like to see is a film that is historically accurate for the time period, cast with Greek actors and the dialogue spoken only in Mycenaean Greek language.
Agamemnon. I've known this since that first trailer because I went out and sought who he was. Underwhelming, but I am still curious to see the whole movie.

Which then gives the Elliot Page playing Achilles rumour a little more creditability. Depending on how far they go with the flashbacks, we might even see Cynthia Erivo playing the character of Hector. Anything is possible now.

Yeah-yeah. I know. Hollywood is on its last legs...
I ran what you said through AI, and sure enough... what type of stunning and brave energies will she bring to the table?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if these casting choices turned out to be real.

The problem for me is the random casting choices, modern dialogue, bizarre costumes and strangely making Tom Holland and Robert Patterson perform with an American accent (why?!) breaks the immersion. I feel like I'm watching a student play or AI generated content.

Pretty sure the Lupita one is legit. Just ask Dr. Google.

I agree with everyone's opinions on here about how off it looks and how the cast is horrendous. 100% agree. But between that, the practical effects and the fact that this is the first Nolan film I've been interested in since TDK, that is what's driving my fascination. It's like being really excited for a mid or below looking game that you're pretty sure will indeed be mid or below. Hello MindsEye.

Doesn't the Academy have that new rule where if you want your film to even be considered for nominations you NEED to cast gays, non whites, non white gays or any race of tranny for supporting roles?

It would certainly help explain those casting choices being as fucked up as they are.

Nolan movies normally are day one for me, but after Tenet, prob more wait and see. All the buzz around casting isn't helping sell this movie for me.

Im starting to wonder if this is a troll job from Nolan, like Dustborn was in vidya.
