So I just picked up the PC version recently and installed a bunch of mods. One of them was a mod that adds tons of 'interiors' to the wasteland.

Unfortunately it's sort of glitchy and I entered a bus and now I can't exit it...the door just doesn't do anything. Is there any console command I can use to warp back outside? I stupidly only made one save.

coc megatonplayerhouse will take you back to your house in megaton. You can replace that with the neame of any cell to teleport there.

Quick question with hopefully a quick answer. I hadn't played Fallout 3 in quite awhile, got back into it yesterday. My current objective for the main storyline is to "Find the G.E.C.K.", so,

1. What's the G.E.C.K.?
2. Where's the G.E.C.K.?
3. Gimme the G.E.C.K.

Can anyone give me their thoughts on which is the best version of the GOTY edition? I'm looking at the 360 and PC versions (seen a lot about the PS3 being buggy). I'm leaning toward the 360 because of the big screen/couch factor but if the PC version is clearly superior I'll go that route. I've just read a lot of issues with bugs and I'm not sure what to make of it.
I have the PC version and it is super buggy. Right now it's pretty much unplayable as I get crashes every 5 minutes. I'm playing on Windows 7 64 bit so I don't know if that's the problem or what. It's really frustrating.

Ok, I think I might have figured it out. Is it in Vault 87? The last visible spot that I can't seem to access? You need some sort of anti-radiation suit to get in there I'd imagine.

When I installed it it made me dl a patch but don't know it's safe to install the download content on ps3. I don't have a good game PC and my 360 broke on me so this is my only option.
IMO, when playing the PS3 version, just stick to the vanilla game.

I've only bought Broken Steel, because I felt like I had to (hit level 20 before finishing the game) and it made things considerably more choppy. I loved being able to level up again, but I hated that I lost some framerate. But as an above poster points out, luckily the really bad framerates are kept to the BoS missions.

Yeah on PS3 just stick to the vanilla game, make multiple saves, and do not use powerful energy weapons that turn guys to ash/goo/whatever.

Is Fallout 3 worth playing/getting from someone who got really bored with Oblivion. I pre-judged F3 based off of that and never gave it a chance....

Sry for this vague question but I'm sure theres some Oblivion haters in here who love Fallout 3? The setting has nothing to do with it as I love fantasy and post-apocalyptic.

Depends on what you didn't like in Oblivion.

Didn't mean to bring this thread back from the dead, just noticed it on the front page so I thought I would ask as it was bugging me.

Anyway to answer your question, in Oblivion, about the only thing I liked was wandering around the wooded areas. I loathed all of the static looking npc's, couldn't stand the generic oblivion gate and dungeon environments, and generally thought the actual gameplay was terrible.

Well I'd argue the different variety of guns is better than swords and axes ad shit. Like the Rock It launcher that can shoot anything you find, from pool balls to teddy bears to pencils. Or the MIRV, which shoots 8 mini nukes out like a shotgun. The environment is much better in FO3, its much more condensed than Oblivion's Map, so there's not a lot of dead space, and if you just walk in one direction, youre bound to find something cool you havent seen before. Aside from the from the Metro Tunnels (which there are few of) all of the dungeon areas are pretty unique.

Picked this up during the Gamestop memorial day sale and added it on my Steam account. I'm really enjoying it but its crashing all the time. Its usually with VATS but sometimes just randomly. I have the most up to date vid drivers and i've tried some .ini tweaks but nothing seems to want to work. Shame because its not that old and i figured Bethesda would have fixed this stuff by now. If anyone has had the same problems and has fixed them please let me know.

Didn't really care for Oblivion, Fallout 3 is game of the gen for me. Absolutely fantastic, and I'm not even a particular RPG/Bethesda fan. So get it, NOW!

Finally finished Broken Steel. Had put it down for a long time but had the desire to finish it up after completing New Vegas. Enjoy ending to the story overall but that
Tesla Cannon
is way overpowered. Yet at the same time I don't I could have done it without it. I really do hope Fallout 4 picks up where FO3 leaves off or at least has some of the same characters with you maybe being able to import your character as at least a NPC in the game. That would be nice.

Deathclaws are significantly easier to kill in FO3. Didn't encounter them until I started finishing up Broken Steel as I didn't do much exploring before. Still will do huge amounts of damage but they are way to powerful in New Vegas to the point that taking them on simply isn't fun in the slightest. They took things way past challenging I think.

Really late to the party here, but I need some explanation of some things if people are up for it. First time playing the game after finally getting it modded up, with mostly comestic stuff, except for Martigan's Monster Mod, everything ON and scales every 6 levels.

Playing GOTY edition.

I started with stats and tagged skills from a few posts up:

Strength 4
Perception 7
Endurance 5
Charisma 1
Intelligence 9
Agility 9
Luck 5

I tagged Small Guns, Sneak, and Repair

Then I read about the Intelligence bobble-head in Rivet City, so I booked it over there before doing any quests. So now I have 10 Int, 20 skills per level up. There is a high chance I'm only playing through the game once with my back log, and I'm trying to get SPECIAL to 10 by ignoring Bobble-heads till you get the perk raising to 9. I also would you to try to get skills to 100.

Doing some reading, it says to skip skill up perks, but it seems at least a couple of levels you can't skip them, unless you want to get the SPECIAL perk for 1, but that's kinda useless with the lvl 30 perk already right, so what's the point?

Skills and Skill books: This where I'm trying to wrap my brain around and coming up blank. It reminds me of Oblivion, which is annoying because I don't like the stat system in that game. If I was going to use Skill UP BOOKS/Skill Bobblehead should I just stop putting points into any skill at 40/50? It just seems to counterproductive put skill points into skills, I'll rarely use but I would like them to be 100.

The question is though, will going through the game on normal with the MMM mod, and trying to get 100 in all skills/10 special, make the game frustrating the first time through the game?

If I'm gonna go this route, I should take the Comprehension perk at 4 right? What about the Educated perk? I've read some say to just skip that one because of the skill books/head?

I just like playing rpgs, mainly for npc interaction/story, these wierd skill systems always confuse me. I wanted to like Oblivion but the level up system is just plain odd to me.

Also, about Moira. Is the Dream Crusher perk better than the Survival Guru?

To be quite frank, I think that following FAQs and focusing on Min/Maxing on your first playthrough seems like a terribly un-fun way of playing the game, but then again, I'm not so OCD as some RPG players.

There are easily enough skill points available through level-ups and skill books that you'll find without using a FAQ to max out Sneak, Lockpick, Science, Repair, Speech, and at least 2-3 weapon types, which really ought to be plenty. Many of the SPECIAL stats can be raised to 10 without the bobbleheads due to bonuses you get from equipment.

Actually, I found the game to be less enjoyable when they raised the level cap and gave the level 30 perks. Playing a specialized character is more interesting than playing a jack-of-all-trades.

I was just about to finally start playing this game all the way through, but I noticed there is an issue with SLI in this game. I googled the hell out of it, and could not find a solution. Has anyone figured out a way to get rid of the sky flickering with SLI enabled? I could disable SLI since I am running dual GTX 580's, but a single GTX 580 starts to slow down a bit since I have the higher texture mod installed.

The DLC is a good chunk of content, but you'll be able to take a save from vanilla F3 no problem if you end up upgrading later.

I finished the game 2 years ago, bought it on Steam with all the DLC. I have a couple of questions:

1. What is the order I should play Vanilla + DLC? Do they have level requirements? Can I go back to some DLC areas?

2. Any ideas for a character build? Any special things to get you started quickly e.g. New Vegas Clinic Run at Lvl. 1 + Casino Slots bust?

I plan to roll the same way I did in F:NV - go with Speech/Lockpick/Repair/Science+Guns, then on high level switch to Melee Weapons. Is Melee build viable from the very beginning?

Sorry for lot of questions, I played it long time ago, but New Vegas made me start this all over again :)

1. You can return to Point Lookout and The Pitt, and parts of Mothership Zeta. All DLCs are fairly hard, I'd recommend waitng until at least level 10.

2. I've never tried a melee build so I don't know. As far as skills and SPECIAL goes remember that you get perks and skill points on every level up (not every 2 like in NV), so your skills will go up fast.

I noticed I have a different set of saves when connected to LIVE and not. So I dug up my 4-year old gamertag and linked it. Does it act as some sort of cloud storage for saved games?

I'm about to install the PC GOTY edition to play this for the first time. I've heard about the Chinese Stealth Suit which can be acquired through Operation: Anchorage, and I'd like to get it so I can play the game stealthily. So I'm wondering what happens when you install the DLC (which I'm assuming is all on the second disc)? I'm curious how it's handled/presented to you as I don't want anything to spoil the experience in any way if you're not supposed to have the DLC right from the beginning? Could I install it all from the start and just ignore it (aside from O:A) until I choose to play it (like maybe it's just a note on the map that I have to go to to start the DLC)? Just wondering how it's handled. Thanks.

Yes what happens is you get an alert the DLC has been installed and it will give you a quest plus put a location on the map but you don't have to do them until you want to.

Alright, that's good, thanks for the reply. I've installed the game now as well as the DLC and have noticed that you have to check each DLC under data files in the Fallout Launcher. I'm wondering if I could maybe just check O:A for now and leave the others until later and then when I want to play them just check them, would that all work the way it should? I know common sense says that it would but my neurosis just likes to get confirmation of this before doing so.

I'm near the end of the main quest (62 hours total playtime so far, most of that not doing the main quest of course) and wondering what effect installing
Broken Steel will have on the ending. I'm aware that originally you were unable to play post-game, but I don't know any more than that. I'm hoping Broken Steel simply allows you to play later, without significantly changing the ending. I'd like to get the original ending but with the ability to play post-game (and to get XP for what I'm doing now, since I just hit level 20). I recall reading somewhere that it changes the ending but I'm hoping that just means the ability to continue playing? Hopefully someone can answer. (without spoilers)

The original ending to the game stays, it's just altered so you can continue playing after it. Broken Steel then adds another 'main quest' on top of that which expands the story a little further to deal with another threat. After that new main quest is finished you can continue to play the game.

It doesn't change the ending much at all. The original ending was bullshit and the worst thing about the game anyway.

In fallout.ini, (in Documents/My Games/Fallout3) make the following changes:
bUseThreadedAI=1

and add this line to [General]:
iNumHWThreads=2

Really late to the party here and apologies if it's already been mentioned, but I'm trying to get the neutral and bad karma trophies for the various levels to get my platinum trophy... but having spent 200 hours on the game already, I kind of want to move on haha.

so does anyone know if the scrap metal glitch still works on the GOTY edition (ps3) with all the latest patches?

So after a long break I decided to play Fallout 3 again (360). I had already beaten the main campaign, Mothership Zeta, and Brotherhood of Steel, figured I'd go for the others. So I made my way to do the Operation Anchorage mission. On the way I noticed the game was stuttering big time. Never did this before. I have the game installed on my HD and all the DLC put on an official 360 16gb flashdrive. Anyways, I've done a handful of the "missions" and I have to admit, this DLC is pretty weak. Not really fun at all. Just sneak up, shoot them, rinse and repeat. Do love the gausse (sp) rifle though. From what I remember most people didn't like this DLC and I can see why, but the gear and weapon(s) I assume you get are pretty sweet.

Is there a mod for perks and when you tag skills?

Also since the one DLC (forgot name think brotherhood something) increases lvl cap, should I leave it off?

Got FONV and am thoroughly enjoying the game, not even close to finished. Is it worth taking a trip back to FO3 for a similar experience or will it just be a step backwards. Thoughts?

It's a different experience and while I like New Vegas more it's certainly not a step backwards. Instead of deserts and factories it's more like streets, subways, and museums for a good portion of it... Different enemies and weapons(some actually cooler than NV's) too.

FWIW, I liked FO3 more than NV. BUt mostly only because I thought that the DC Wasteland had more polish than the New Vegas area... especially comparing the National Mall to the Strip. The Strip really ruined New Vegas for me.

Agreed. I found the setting of FO3 far more appealing than New Vegas.
