The Official Wii Games of 2008 Thread

Uh...what hype? I mean, NMH certainly has a lot of neoGaf hype, but that doesn't mean much. Little to no advertising, little to zero exposure, and middling to average reviews means you should check your hype gage. I hope it is good too and will definitely give it a swing, but I think by "living up to the hype," you mean "living up to my own unrealistic expectations." I did the same thing to myself for SPM and got burned. Just tryin to watch out for you.

And yeah. Brawl will be that singular title that dominates this platform for a long time to come.

/snarky response x3

Glad to see someone on Gaf cares about me, but yea the hype is due to Gaf, I'm really hoping its worth buying.

Nooow I get it. All this praise for this thread, while I tought it was pretty shitty. It doesn't have content in the OP!? And since when is "The House of the Dead 3" the biggest and only Wii release to date? :lol
Turns out this is not how it is supposed to look like.

I don't see the reason why Firefox would block all the images, and not Internet explorer. Maybe I've manually blocked images with a word that every image source has with ad-block. Is anyone else having this problem.

Now I can say: impressive OP Panther, too bad I have to switch to IE to see it ><

Are we expecting Monster Hunter 3 to be a was-in-development for PS2 but switched-over-to-Wii-based-on-sales-numbers kind of game, or will it truly be ground-up-loveproject-2nd-gen-a-la-Mario-type development? Will it be impressive or a quick cashin, untill the next million selling portable version comes out?

It has the potential to be exciting, at any rate.

From the video shown, it doesnt seems to be from ground up, more like using the old engine and improve on it. One good example are the character and the Wyren model, they are more or less the same model. Whereas the town looks much better this time round and the final portion of the video where they shown a monster in the sea, the water effect is kind of new which is not present in the old one.

Anw this is only my conclusion from that short video, they might change more stuff but I dont think they will, instead they will just improve on the existing model. One thing that I really wanted they to implement this time round is more interaction with the environment eg. Climb trees etc.

Found the problem. Every pic has the word "banner" in it, so it's automatically blocked here. :lol

:lol

Yeah, that would suck. And sorry about the naming convention -- I have to be careful of saving over already-used .jpg names.

Kirby was officially denied to be in development, as in, not your usual "we aren't making this game but WINK and we can't say anything about it WINK," but more like, "that shit ain't happenin bitches."

NCL says otherwise. It was just the ONM UK who said this crap: NCL lists it as a 2008 game for Japan and - to be honest - I think they know better than ONM UK.

On a side note, should I know who Kuju London is?
You probably should know the developer of Battalion Wars, yes.

It was actually in development for PS3, as far as I understand...

It should be a pack-in with Wii Play or a WiiWare title.

I suspect it will be a semi-budget title unless Nintendo is nuts, and from a content point of view it's going to be fairly full.

Blimey, my wallet may cry this year.

Including games that are out in the US now but not the UK, I'm looking forward to:

NiGHTS Journey of Dreams
Ghost Squad
House of the Dead II & III Return
No More Heroes
Sega Superstars Tennis
Wii Fit
Wii Music
Spore
Castle of Shikigami III
Dragon Quest Swords (UK will get this, yes?)
Oboro Muramasa

The following are DAY ONE:
Zack & Wiki
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Samba De Amigo

I'll be happy to uncross this off my list when we get a minimum of ONE screen for the game. Deal?

And yes, I should know the dev of BW. My mistake.

Expect an update soon, btw. :)

similar to Wii Chess?

Wii Chess is a piece of shit, both in terms of features and design. It's truly telling that it appears to be an NOE flagship title and has not been announced for North America ever.

Wii Music is an internal NCL project. I'd put it on level with Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit in terms of how the menus, packaging, and advertising will be done.

I don't think there's any comparison to look to for price just yet, but I do expect it to be $39.99 US or lower.

Disappointing about Wii Chess -- that could be a PERFECT game with the right packaging (DLC sets? I would love a Zelda set, a Mario set, etc)

Wii Music is most definitely intriguing. I'm wondering if they're seeing the GHIII/RB style of play and are implementing something similar. Could be huge.

I think everyone can agree that SSBB is the most anticipated, but I love sports games and I want to see if MLB 2k8 is going to be any good. I have a feeling it is going to bomb, but I will be crossing my fingers

I think as long as 2K doesn't mess up the Wii version like how EA mess up Madden 08 and actually advertise the game so the casual gamers actually knows that there's MLB 2k8 for Wii, then it will do pretty good.

Wii owners are the most forgiving in terms of graphics anyways.

You have Boom Blox in both March as well as Q3/Q4/TBA - which one is the correct one? And I am saddened at the lack of a banner of it - ignoring Spielburg's involvement, it may not be a major title, but it seems to fulfill the same niche as Elebits and the like - a quirky sandbox title with a "build-your-levels" mode.

Oops. I saw that it had moved up to March but forgot to take it out of the TBA slot. Good eyes! And yeah, that is a game I would be making a banner for...except the only media I have been able to find are bare-bone tech demos. I need some official artwork, a box art, an official site...anything. It will get the attention it deserves. (also the reason Rygar doesn't have a banner yet)

And to guy above, I completely agree about MLB2k8. I just hope they have a decent game, but what I'm looking for is a completely well thought-out general manager/owner mode. I love drafting and developing and picking salaries, probably more than actually playing the game part of the game.

thanks so much panther for such an awesome thread. i'll definitely find myself making a few of those official threads in the future :D

Thats crappy game apparently.

Have there already been impressions of playable version of the Wii port? It's one I've yet to see anything about, but I've been jazzed for it, considering how awesome the game was back in the arcades and on Dreamcast.

See above,

I had the same problem as you did since the same developer developed the original SEGA Bass Fishing.

This is all that I know about that. Link takes you to the official site -- banner is currently under February. Interesting, because it makes a 3-game trifecta for SEGA in just a few weeks:

SEGA BASS FISHING
SEGA SUPERSTARS TENNIS
HotD 2&3

Not that any of them will be THE BEST GAMES EVER MADE, but there is little doubt that SEGA is really, really supporting the Wii. Cool stuff. Too bad SEGA has been trying to duplicate what NINTENDOES, but this is a good start. KEEP IT UP SEGA!!

[De Blob] - TBA 2008

(banner coming soon)

More early (and awesome!) impressions HERE.

This game sounds really freakin fun. I think this is the one that started out as a college project over in Netherlands. A publisher picked it up and WHAMMO, original fun experience to be had. Maybe at a slightly budget price?

Updates:

okami-wii-banner.jpg

1. Okami got moved up to March (25th). Anybody have a Wii version trailer?

2. Harvest Moon pushed back to May.

3. MiniCopter (I was calling it Lil' Copter) moved up to March (3rd). Requesting a tag be made for this by somebody that cares.

4. April/May/June looks fucking barren. Wouldn't be surprised to see some smaller titles shuffled into play then to get them better exposure. Mario Kart would be shocking (if it isn't in February like Smash, don't they usually push them all the way to October/November?

Mario Kart and Wiifit should be Q2 titles. I think Wiifit already has a date if I remember correctly. It was May 20th, leaked by 1UP by accident (or not).

Edit: WiiWare should launch in March or April as well.

I am confused. Is the fishing game a port of the DC game or is it "Real Motion Fishing"?
