I'm on the second planet now.
I like the layouts of the maps. They are not overly big but fairly dense. I did prefer the first planet from a visual point of view.
The flaws seem kinda harsh in their penalties. I only picked up two (less healing but also less toxicity when using the inhaler, as well as the one where dialogue options are on a timer but you net more EXP), The timer is fairly long, so no biggie.
They could be fun for a second playthrough though.
One thing I don't like is the factions. They are fairly boring and don't offer that much depth.

Remember infamous MAU numbers MS was screaming from the rooftops when service was growing subs fast? Not anymore, coz it stagnated badly, hell maybe its already in its regression phase by now since OW2 only had official 3m players announcement.
Thats pretty terrible considering there has to be way more than 3m gamepass ultimate subscribers at that time, no? It means even ppl who got the game on gamepass for free, some of them didnt bother to instal/play it just for few minutes/to check it out...
We had official data from indy(that got 8k ccu peak on steam) about 4m players in jan 2025(from sit ur nuttella himself durning earnings call), now 10 months later even if we assume under 500k total copies sold by OW2, that still means around 3m players from gamepass played it day1- so 2 possible choices here, either those several milions of gamepass subscribers find the game so unappealing they dont wanna even instal/check it out "for free" or more plausible option, there is not many more highest tier gamepass subs than those 3m players who played OW2...

from what i have seen so far, it's not the triple A upgrade i was expecting over the 1st game when MS bought Obsidian, the humour isn't as good, the companions are not a likeable as before with the likes of Felix or Parvati, it just seems mostly the same game mechanics and look, but in bigger areas, and they want more money for it, no wonder it isn't selling well.

OW2 is a good game. Just look at what ppl are complaining about in this thread. Haircuts and a black npc. That's all they got. You change the name of the game to Fallout and all these people would eat it up.

I think they wanted to make a universe that act as a metaphor for RPG and that explains why you're the only one willing to make choices and have an impact in the whole world. It could be pretty interesting but first the game commits less to this than the first game (to me the setting of the first game was less expansive but more coherent and well written), and second because of this all factions are absurd archetypes that don't really challenge the player's views at any moment.
Which makes for a pretty generic postmodern subtext of how all institutions are corrupted, and collective beliefs are evil, without any nuance.
I think what saves the game on this front is like in the first narrative design is still above average with a lot of freedom and solid branching dialogues, fun options.

It's Fallout in Space. While they complain I am having a good time. And the Gadgets that use a Energy gauge are varied in use not only for roleplaying and puzzle solving but combat applications too. Lots of interaction with traits, perks and skills too.
Another classic case of people hating the company more then they love the games they so cherish instead of judging on a case by case basis.

And their armours are basically temu radec from kz2 (i know, he wasn't original aswell) but they are the best looking armours nevertheless, the other 2 factions fashion choice is bizarre to say the least

I am sorry but mid tier games like Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 are selling poorly because they are mid and no one wants to play mid games from B and C tier developers who have been making the same game for decades. I thought MS would allow them to take that next leap forward but nope. they are still stuck making 2010 era games when Expedition 33 has completely changed the game.

I'm pretty shit with history so i believe you, it doesn't change much the substance, they are extremely monothematic and boring and their humor doesn't land most of the times because it is always the same fucking thing, people being scared to breath 59 times in a minute instead of the regular 60 times to not get sent to mental rehab, and then you have the positive ones that are just brain-washed morons that don't know the meaning of the word flexibility, i know that having real life factions with their traits exagerated to 400% is a common way to make factions in every rpg, but they don't always land nor they are sooo tongue in cheek.

Yeah, to get NV quality back, they would have to get original writers and designers (Ziets, Fenstermaker, Avellone..).
Gonzales is there again, but after he wrote the two Horizon games I am not sure he still has it.
