Has anyone here already considered the possibility that DriveClub is NOT delayed? After all... it's just a rumour.

I'd say the lack of a comment from Evolution or Sony is pretty telling. If news outlets were saying that my game was delayed, I'd be on twitter saying "The hell it is!"

I would love for it to be false though. It's pretty crazy that this is even a rumor though. Driveclub is one of Sony's few launch exclusives, you'd think they would have kept better track of it's progress.

They could potentially carve Knack into a 75% core game + 25% "DLC". The 75% core game on PS+ and if people like the game, it can be converted to the full retail game with the additional content.

That'd be nice, and maybe they could pull it off if they were expecting this delay... but sub 30 days is probably not enough time to do that. Not enough time to do much, so Sony is in kind of a jam here when considering what to add here in Driveclub's stead.

Maybe free PS+ until the game comes out? That would be kinda cool, and doable.

When PR answers go from "no" to "I can't discuss that specific information", rumor becomes closer to fact.

Says the guy who lied to a poster until it got him banned. Your attitude was beyond awful.

You should be the last gaffer pointing fingers at others.
I didn't lie to Reiko. By now almost everything I told him has been announced. I posted a pic of it a while ago.

Wow. This is actually a big deal, if true. It is one of their very few launch exclusives, and they advertised it constantly and then there is the PS+ deal as well. I personally won't mind, (as long as they give something else on PS+ instead) but a lot of other people will be upset.

I'm bothered, but, not because it's exclusive or free on PS+. I'm bothered because I wanted a racer to balance out my launch selections. Shooter, adventure, racer.

This will probably be the most attention Driveclub will ever get. Not even trolling.

I feel the same. Maybe they got ahold of some approximate pre-order numbers and figured it wasn't going to be a big seller. Decided it would be better off delaying it to polish and put a little marketing behind it and release it during a dry period.

My guess?

Driveclub is delayed. I don't think it's a stretch at all to assume there will be an announcement confirming it within the next day or two.

Now, what about PS+?

Driveclub Lite remains the free PS+ game at launch, except there isn't anything to upgrade until the full one comes out next year. There is obviously a great chunk of this game that is done, and functioning. How much of the game is cause for delay is unknown, but they've shown this game in playable form at multiple trade shows now. My gut says we're still getting Driveclub at launch. PS+ only, lite version that was originally planned, no options for upgrades.

That's just my two cents though.

Controversy does tend to gather a lot of attention from others who wouldn't otherwise be interested in the game. We'll see on release. If the game turns out to be really good, you could be proven wrong.

I don't really see them judging a game they were planning on basically releasing for free with the console by preorder numbers. I think the game was meant to drive PS4 sales rather than them thinking it would be a heavy hitter. Could be wrong though, it would be a good idea to release it sometimes after Infamous and before Watchdogs.

It is in my eyes. I won't accept anything less than that. No PSN game, no indie game, no credit for a f2p game (if that's even an option). Unless they're going to give killzone or a 3rd party title then it's Knack. I'm definitely not accepting a worse version of a currently existing PC game that I already don't want to play.

So a game got delayed. It's a console launch you know

If it's minecraft... eh. Hard to gauge if people still care after being out for so long and doing so well on PC/Mobile/360. I know I personally would see Minecraft as a huge downgrade from Driveclub. That's part of the problem for Sony here, they are breaking the news that Driveclub is late so they need to hit us with something big to make us not care. But something big costs a lot of money...

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony offers up some form compensation but nothing like a minecraft. if we remember all the way back to the PSN outage we didn't get much and that was a big deal. I think 1months of PS+, two games for PS3 and two for PSP

probably something from the new cross-buy games announced today. our choice of either Flower, flOw, Sound Shapes or Escape Plan.

So, do you think knack is the only real feasible option for them?
I personally don't think it's a great option for them. I think most people will see it as a downgrade. I, personally, would love it as I plan on getting it but going from a racing game to an old school 3d platformer that most "dudebro's" would consider a "kiddie game" just seems like following up bad news with worse news.

I think it will either be a few indies or it will be something third party that the publisher is afraid won't sell well and would rather take the guaranteed money of ps+. But what game is that? NBA live? Madden maybe (big name but operation sports guys have played it and said it's a mess).

I guess knack does make the most sense but I don't expect the reaction to that news to be positive.

I don't get why everyone feels entitled to get something big on PS+ in return. The IGC is a gift Sony gives its consumers, now more then ever with PS+ being mandatory just to play games online. They don't need the IGC to sell PS+ memberships since it's like XBL now.

I think to be fair, it'll balance out the dudebro audience with the family audience.

Not sure the logistics involved but Sony could also put a PS+ 1-month subscription in there and call Knack as an "included" game on the PS4 box. That'd catch some eyeballs.

NBA Live is even worse...

how about the full game but limit the difficulty to very easy and disable the trophies.

It's more that Sony stepped up to the plate by offering Driveclub as a PS+ incentive in order to entice system buyers, and if the game is delayed, some people may feel like there needs to be something to take it's place.

That and the main reason PS+ has been so successful over the past year or two is because of the free games. It's expected with the service. I'm hoping that even though it is now required for online play that it doesn't diminish what made the service so great to begin with.

Although I agree with you, I think MS is alot better at knowing how to appeal to the dudebros. So if Sony goes with Knack, I wouldn't be surprised

I'd take a free Knack over a demo version of a game.

Screw that, I don't want the precedent set already on day 1 that they can go ahead and cancel the free games program of PS+ on PS4.

or port this

I would take this.

Hell, it needs to happen no matter what.

It was hard to convince people to pay yearly fees when you could already play online for free. Sony slowly started to expand what PS+ offered because it was a failure, and they saw the massive profits Microsoft was raking in with XBL. The same is not true for the PS4, now we have to pay fees just to play COD and BF online. Sony knows almost every PS owner is going to have PS+ just for that, and they don't need to implement a IGC for PS+ to be successful on PS4.

It sucks for us to have a delay, but it doesn't mean that we deserve to get a free full retail game to replace a glorified demo of another game.

I don't think they need to overcompensate. To spot a full $60 game would be expensive and it still wouldn't be the racing game that lots of people were looking for. I'm thinking the easiest thing to do would be work something out with the F2P game devs for care packages. Give people "free stuff" and then when that free stuff runs out they'll be incentivezed to spend more. They could specifically work something out faster with PlanetSide2 even if SOE is... Difficult to deal with? I have no idea where I got that from but I always got the impressions from somewhere that they were not WWS or something.

Also, a faction of people wouldn't take an indie game for compensation. They might want something equally graphics heavy to get running. And once Gaijin feels like their confident in pushing the fact that they have tanks in War Thunder it'll be something big they can push.

And what happened to Sony's NBA : The Show franchise?

I can't see Knack coming out with partial PS+ edition. Not enough time, game will have to be sent to the printer soon. I do wonder if a price reduction at retail would work, and / or bundle some free months of PS+. I agree, something kinda big needs to happen, they've lost two launch games in only a few days. Losing DC has added weight as it was kinda supposed to be this bridge for Sony to showcase PS+, as others have stated. What other options do they have which can facilitate that?

I feel the most "logical" thing would have something to do with Knack. Hell, japan is already getting that love bundled up. I don't like seeing developers get screwed out of sales, but eh. I'm a sucker for the idea of old school mascots and bundled games, though so my perspective maybe hugely out of whack.

People championing this news or getting bent out of shape are equally pathetic. It's fucking video games! Do you not have something better in your life???

The Knack Disc can ship just the same, but with the PS+ vouchers from Driveclub. The PS+ version would not need to be finalized before the game presses, it could easily be made after certification date.

But they will keep the IGC because on the PS3 nobody needs to pay to play online but a ton of people still do because of the IGC. So I don't know why Sony would take it away. A lot of people don't play online, but will still buy PS+ on the PS4. To me its a much better model than what MS is doing which is putting everything behind a paywall and leaving you no choice but to buy it.

I'd prefer to have a free Knack to save myself $60. I had no interest in Driveclub, probably never would've even downloaded it since I'm not into racers.

I'm neither championing the news nor getting bent out of shape. Yay! I'm not pathetic!

But I seem to have nothing better to do in life. :( Can I still be saved dear Lord?

I'd be thrilled if Knack took DC's place in the IGC. I also think offering either just the single player or multiplayer of Killzone could be an option. Or yeah some third party game.

My money's on Knack, though.

Of course they'll keep it. As I edited in that last post, the IGC is a strike against Microsoft. Just don't expect the PS4 IGC to be anything like what the PS3 has.

And I think you overrate the number of people who play offline only. The best-selling games are almost all multiplayer-capable, are they not? Sure there are a few high-selling SP only titles like Skyrim, but you would figure most people who own that game also have CoD or BF or ME3.

I agree with the majority, however i think more can be said about knack being a financial burden to them for being on ps+ as well.

Knack is already being offered as a free title in japan with their edition of the ps4 , would this not affect their decision on including it in the ps+ launch package aswell?

Thats alot of free , depending on how much the title cost to make it could hurt them in the long run quite badly, with infamous right around the corner , and japan getting their consoles in the same month, wouldnt knack become essentially obsolete after some while as many people will just write it off as a free at launch title when the big name , launch window titles start coming in?( im speaking of those who are ignorant to games of course, i can see how a casual user could just write it off)

Disappointed if this is true and may hold off on getting a ps4 until next spring/ summer as the current gen has more than enough to keep me occupied until then and it seems i will be getting the machine soley for killzone sf!

A launch exclusive racer was essential imo and need for speed is in no way enough.

Ok. I appreciate the responses but I also feel embarrasssed by them. It wasn't really my point. Not fishing for stuff. Let's get back to the topic.

Honeslty, I'm thinking what's most likely is that they just move up the schedule so Don't Starve is the initial freebie and brace for the disappointment. It's probably too short notice to do any special editions of retail games, and while the sports games might have that kind of impact those are tied up in licenses and likely held back by Microsoft deals anyway. Not anything barring this, mind, just that EA probably has a good thing going with Microsoft and doesn't want to endanger that relationship.

I was actually fairly excited to play this because it was free. I don't know what I will do for launch now besides Resogun. I'm holding out hope that NBA 2k14 is awesome. Hopefully there's some sort of sale on buying the launch titles since there's a few I'd buy because of launch fever at a lower price (Need for Speed, maybe Killzone, maybe Knack, probably Injustice).
