TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

Hmm, Yes?

I never thought the GT6 sales cannibalization argument ever had any merit personally

Just mentioned what the general thought on it was

I'm actually hoping that this is false somehow but severly doubt it

The delay if as big as it is puts it out to spring next year means something larger than even a jump from 30 to 60 fps

Edit: What happens if its the other way around?

Sony misjudged it and doesn't want DriveClub underperforming and being forgotten due to GT6 coming out right after it?

Then move it to spring to further help infamous compete with titanfall?

What about #TeamNextGenLastYear?

That's what I'm thinking.
If the delay turns out to be true I expect them to really, really polish the game. 60 fps and not even a hint of a jaggy are a must.

Any updates?? I was busy. I cant edit op anymore, an admin can do that if any news breaks.

I've already posted about this yesterday but my source at SCEE has confirmed the delay.

I'm sorting out proof with Bish when I get back into the office tomoz. I'll see if I can do a remote login today to sort it out earlier.

That would be awesome! :D

Do you think they can rewrite the engine for soft body physics in that time? Because that's what I'd expect from them. Nicer visuals don't cut it for me.

I'm also indifferent to DC being delayed. Sony has a long history of delaying games for better polish. I've never had a problem with that kind of policy. Seeing how many games are released half-baked and full of glitches, I'm glad some publishers still value quality.

Isn't DC featured on the back of the PS4 box? That would suck for Sony.

There is precedent...

Didn't Kaz specifically mention that the engine (physics included, I assume) is next gen ready? May be the engine has been designed with a very loose coupling to the underlying platform, which would make porting easy?

Driveclub and Killzone were the reasons to get a ps4 at launch for me.

If true about Driveclub then that's a major blow, I was needing a Driveclub v Forza fanboy war!

I'm so confused now! Which way is "the other way around" again? :D

Assuming this is what you meant by "the other way around", no. Such a thought would not have gone unnoticed for so long. That would be a gross underestimation of Sony head honchos' IQ. They've been so meticulous so far. I agreed with your original comment. If the delay were true, it's neither 60 fps nor GT. :)

sorry haha

Yeah I think it means something more than optimazation or GT6-related but the thought of moving DC to spring so it has more of a chance is better than the thought DC would ever cannibalize any GT sales

Anyways I wonder if we'll hear what the delay was for

And what happens if it's only a month or so?

Still not good but would be better news for sure

You don't seem to wonder that there might be no delay at all. Are you that sure? I'm still hoping this was internal frustration amongst devs during crunch time that was misinterpreted by mortimer's sources. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, but it seems plausible to me, given the timing. And it also doesn't challenge mortimer's credibility.

It would be pretty bad not to have a big racing game at launch.

I would have thought Evolution had plenty of heads up that theirs was a launch title, so any possible delay is frusrating

I don't think you need to eat crow for hoping that this is just a big misunderstanding.

The more I think about it... while it clearly sucks for launch, giving Drive Club more time to get polished and moving it out of the window of time that gt6,Forza and a NFS game come out is smart. It was going to get buried. Now, at the very least, it may be able to pick up some graphics whores and fill in a slow period for next gen releases.

All of this being "good" hinges on it and watch dog's delay not stopping the ps4 from selling out. Because if it still sells out without them and then they come in spring with infamous... that could keep the momentum going.

It could very well be a non-issue

I.E. no delay, DC at launch etc.

I didn't mean to be absolutely certain but it seems fairly likely at this point

I would much much prefer the delay not to be true

ah well this sucks for racing fans, though good news for me if we get something else on ps+ now!

hope this dosent hurt ps4 too much though as they have been doing deservedly well so far

If it wasn't being delayed, sony would have just came out and said it to be honest. The fact that there is no confirmation either way is very telling.

i was def looking forward to the ps plus version and was considering upgrading if it was good ... was hoping for a ps plus beta even after evidence of the delay mounted .... e
eh well if they polish and make the ingame graphics fully on par with the reveal (i know it looked similar in parts but it did look worse in others) .... i think the delay willl be worth it ....

maybe early jan release before infamous or else say mid april to tide ppl over between infamous and the order? def need me some naughty dogs / ssm reveals now ....

sony reveal one of those games and make me happy lol ... and if ppl are cancelling preorders over this ill be happy cause i can preorder and get one day one .... something i was stupid not to do in time earlier ....

I don't know about that. It was going to basically be free to everyone with PS+. That's a huge amount of exposure. If I liked it, I wouldnt have even given NFS a second look at full price.

I hope Sony clarifies this issue later today.

If it really is delayed they better use that extra time to make it 60 FPS.

30 FPS was forgivable at launch. However, if it is delayed, its GOTTA be 60.

actually i would much rather it fully matches the reveal visual fidelity .... something which graphicallly screams next gen racer ... its more arcadey and social than sim so ill be totally fine with 30fps and fully cranked up graphical overload.

Theres no way dc was a system seller, id doubt that of wd as well tbh. This does little if nothing to ps4 launch day buyers just a little bummer is all.

As its looking like DC will be delayed I'm starting to get fairly curious as to why

If the article in the OP is to be believed the delay is until spring 2014

I cannot imagine optimization taking that long

It either has to be the biggest bug ever or they feel the need to add a significant amount of content

Also curious why the delay came so close to launch. I can understand Ubisoft being tightlipped about WD up to launch but Sony being the platform holder would want to get ahead of this as quick as possible and handle people's expectations accordingly

I don't know, I just feel like we're going to be suprised if we ever figure out why it was delayed

I feel like it was delayed for optimization, but pushed all the way into Spring for strategic reasons like meeting the spring game drought with a compelling arcade racer.

Totally agree. A launch PS+ title would not have gone unnoticed when people need to shell out $60 for other games competing in the same genre. Trying it out would have been a no-brainer. The fact that it wouldn't be at launch would actually give it lesser attention if it released later on. It loses a certain... glamor that launch titles get the privilege of having (however average they might turn out to be). I can't imagine this to have anything to do with positioning it in the market. It's far too late to be making such decisions. The rollback on logistics for retail alone is a nightmare. If the delay were true, it would definitely have been an emergency decision (show stopping bug, lack of polish etc), not strategic.

No, but bish hasn't closed the thread so the rumour seems to hold some weight.

Well, the current content of the OP provides a good anchor, unfortunately.

I am not happy with this, but I agree with everyone who finds it plausible.

October 25 is apparently the date to ship majority of Gold for the factories in order to be ready for launch. It is one week from now.

It was the similar situation with GT5 back in October 2010. They've missed the Gold delivery window for 1-2 days and they had to wait for 2 weeks to start the disc production. Delay was around a month because of that IIRC

My main question is how big the actual delay is going to be. The factorues will be chocked in November and Decemeber, literally chocked and gagged.

I am not particularly fussed about this delay (if confirmed). I would of course have been pleased had this not happened, but if the developers or publishers believe that a game needs extra work, content or polish and decide to delay for the good of the experience then it's fine by me. Nobody is forcing me to chose when to purchase a console or game so hopefully this delay does the game a favour, just like with other titles that are chosen to take the same route. It's the beginning of the generation and many developers are under a lot pressure to deliver something at the start, it must be a stressful and difficult time.

As for Watch Dogs, that first reveal blew everyone away, but it quickly lost that magic every time we saw more footage and it was quite obvious just from watching that it certainly is lacking something. If somebody knows what that something is, please point it out to me because I still can't quite put my finger on it.

As for what Sony may replace Drive Club with...well I would love Knack, but I'm leaning toward some sort of super light-weight version of Drive Club/Demo of 'The Last Guardian' :p

goodmorning guys from this side of the world too..
exactly what I was thinking.. sony hasnt shot this down overnight, cant be just a foolish rumor..

well last week they said that we should expect lots of new footage...so if this delayed news isn't true and we haven't heard anything from Sony...maybe they are letting this build up a bit, and then wow us with new footage.

Watch Dogs lost me as soon as I understood it would only be a modern skin for the Assassin's Creed formula which is way overused by now. The hype bubble deflated quickly with this game. I don 't mean the game is bad either, just not as special or as interesting as initially expected.
