TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

I am not particularly fussed about this delay (if confirmed). I would of course have been pleased had this not happened, but if the developers or publishers believe that a game needs extra work, content or polish and decide to delay for the good of the experience then it's fine by me. Nobody is forcing me to chose when to purchase a console or game so hopefully this delay does the game a favour, just like with other titles that are chosen to take the same route. It's the beginning of the generation and many developers are under a lot pressure to deliver something at the start, it must be a stressful and difficult time.

As for Watch Dogs, that first reveal blew everyone away, but it quickly lost that magic every time we saw more footage and it was quite obvious just from watching that it certainly is lacking something. If somebody knows what that something is, please point it out to me because I still can't quite put my finger on it.

As for what Sony may replace Drive Club with...well I would love Knack, but I'm leaning toward some sort of super light-weight version of Drive Club/Demo of 'The Last Guardian' :p

I think, for watch dogs it just doesn't look 'fun'. It looks like the main mechanic of the game is hacking, so instead of playing a protagonist directly interacting with his environment you mostly seem to be playing someone pressing buttons for something else to happen. That seems cool, but I think the action-reward loop is off with it. It sounds as if it should be great but you have an extra layer of abstraction in there which drains variety from mission structure so, say, a police chase becomes the same as a heist, becomes the same as a hostage rescue (for example) i.e. go somewhere, hack something, shit happens. I hope I'm wrong as the game really sold me when I first saw it.

Regarding DC, have the kiosk sightings been confirmed yet. It would be a pretty big own goal to have those in the wild if the release is 2014 and not, say, just a month or so delay.

...your preorder was contingent on DriveClub?

Not only but Killzone and DC were essentials.

450€ (in Spain) for only Killzone (PS4 pack) doesn't seem to be a great deal. It's only a 20€ discount.

I can wait two or three months for Infamous or DriveClub, and buy Killzone cheaper than the release date (probably more than 20€).

We are talking about the release line-up not the console in his entire life. But obviously it has lost appeal for the release date

We still have no confirmation, right?

I wouldn't mind a delay if and only if it meant 60 fps in the final product, but I doubt that'll happen.

What a disaster.

I suppose that, if this is finally true, I will cancel the preorder and I will postpone the buying untill Q1 2014...

I wouldn't necessarily call it a disaster. I would wait until Sony releases an official statement before cancelling any pre-orders. Sony is usually slow to respond to rumors and speculation, if they even respond at all. They included DriveClub in the Day with Playstation vid they put out the the 14th.

I think this may be good news since now, we get a steady pace of games starting with KZ/Knack (Launch), Infamous(Feb), DriveClub/MLB the Show (Mar/Apr but leaning toward March), ----> the rest of Sony's improbable line up of "20 games minus the one I listed."

I still have no clue what the rest of Sony's WWS is doing, but it looks pretty grim with nothing really announced for Spring/Summer. Looks to be a big drought of games for Sony first party and if Sony falls to MS during Spring, I probably point the blame toward Yoshida with the mishap.

I feel like Sony's in a weird spot with their launch exclusives, particularly if there's no Driveclub. Killzone comes out alongside BF4 and CoD, both of which will likely outsell it. And Knack doesn't seem like the kind of game that will appeal to most early adopters.

i dont see what's your point here..?

if you are a racing guy, a racing game grabs your interest way more than a first person shooter a rpg or a platformer.

Agree with this logic. Don't understand why people question others for canceling pre-orders because of a specific game getting delayed. May be that was the only game they were looking forward to. They'll buy it when it releases or whenever other games they are interested in release. Nothing wrong in that!

What a disaster.

if PS4 sells out and is popular, wouldn't it make sense to just keep your preorder? Q1 isn't that far out - if it comes out in say February, then why not just have the console ready to go when it launches? Not like there will be a price cut or anything by then.

Probably a similar situation to watch dogs - early internal reviews weren't so hot I guess.

Everything I've seen and played of the game seemed rough.

It's probably for the better.

Luckily the delays haven't changed my plans.

Ass Flag for PS4 and DR3 & Forza for XBOX ONE at launch for me.

actually i was referring to the part where for a racing guy, the racing game is the important one.

but cancelling your plans before official word is heard, nah, imo that would just be reflexive action.
let sony speak first. then see what you wanna do.

I dind't say thay I won't ever buy it. I only have said that I will postpone the buying untill Driveclub (or Infamous) will be released en Q1 2014.

I don't understand why I have to defend my choose so much, like if I was trolling

Because probably, by that time, I will be able to buy Killzone cheaper.
Q1 is pretty close, so it's not a big deal to wait a little so, when I'll buy it there will be more games that interests me (driveclub, infamous and more games in the PSN+) and they will make packs with them.

Well, I read all about the rumour yesterday but was to sleepy to write something. The funny thing is: A friend asked me what I think about the PS4 games, and I said there are -2 interesting titles. At that point I didn't even know about the Watch Dogs delay :/

Another thing: Don't get your hopes up for 60 fps. This is a design choice you make at the beginning of development. Drive Club won't run magically at 60 fps now because it spends a few extra months it development.

Normally, I'd agree, but they've said before that they were targeting 60 fps and Evolution games often go through plenty of changes in the last few months (from trade show to final product). I'm sure it will be just 30 fps, though.

That's what I'm saying, why release the new ad with Driveclub in it only to cancel it now. It would have to be something major for the game to get delayed. Sony will set us straight later today.

Just checked on twitter and not one single denial of this rumour from the devs or Sony. It's starting to look bad for Sony fans.

I think internally they've been able to achieve 60 fps in some situations since internally they were testing the game with a VR headset which pretty much needs at a minimum 30fps per eye.

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Fucking mad right now.

Theres no way dc was a system seller, id doubt that of wd as well tbh. This does little if nothing to ps4 launch day buyers just a little bummer is all.

TBH is any driving game a system seller anymore? Gran Turismo seems to be the heavy hitter these days over all the others.

Guys! I'm finding this rumor increasingly unlikely, the more I think about it. Their greatness awaits ad titled "WHO'S IN FOR MIDNIGHT?" with the launch date, has Driveclub as one of it's key segments. It was released just a little more than a day ago. Did they really start a marketing campaign for launch games (including driveclub) less than 48 hours before rumors about delaying it? Are we suggesting that they literally decided today and Sony had absolutely no clue one day before? If a decision has indeed already been made (for reasons beyond me), this video will be the first thing that get altered or taken down within the next 24 hours.

http://playstation.greatnessawaits.com

EDIT:

This single video alone invalidates all theories of delaying this for strategic reasons. If they knew even a week before, this video would not have been released to the public. It leaves us with only one possibility - Sony came to know about it in the last 24 hours. What are the odds of that happening and mortimer picking it up the very same day?

What am I missing? Please point out holes in my argument if you find any.

Just another crazy thought, but after these delays now:
What if developers all knew that they won't make it for the launch day, but were forced to say otherwise just to boost console sales? Now that everyone has their console preordered...

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Fucking mad right now.

don´t be...

I'd say framerate, lighting, animation, effects.

Sums up GAF. You don't say "racing fans" or "Evolution fans" or "game fans" but "Sony fans".

Oh no, Sony fans have lost a launch exclusive they can't use in online arguments. People who actually want to play the game it's ok they can do it in a few months, it's the people who argue on the internet they are the ones who lost something today.

Were all these guys fooling us, first Watchdogs, then DriveClub (if true), will SF also get delayed till 2014?

Come on guys, dont do this...

Agree with everything you said. But he did say that he would cancel after finding if it's true. So I think he was fully justified in making that statement.

I made the decision.

I just cancelled my PS4 pre-order with Amazon :(

I just can't justify picking one up to play one game (Resogun) when I will have the XONE and at least 5 titles that I am desperate to play (Forza5, Killer Instinct, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon) and if I am doing that I may as well pick up BF4, COD and AC4 for the XONE as well.

I will probably now get one when Infamous drops next year.

Bad times

:(

You're missing the disclaimer that says 'Not all featured titles available at launch'. We just assumed they meant ESO...

I don't think its a disaster if DC is delayed, if they need more time to get it right then so be it, Driveclub is a new IP so they can't rush it out the door & hope the brand alone will carry it. They have one opportunity to make a good first impression so it can perhaps establish itself, so I'd rather wait & get a decent game with the chance it could turn into something decent than watch it crash & burn due to trying to hit a launch date, for me bar Killzone this launch is all about the multiplats anyway.

But Sony/Evolution do need to make a statement regarding its future.

I'm almost certain it's true.

-kotaku confirmed the rumor with a second source.
-thread is still open on neoGAF....
-no word from Sony

Is the rumour even a day old yet? I don't think they will release an official statement on twitter.
It's now being reported by a lot of sites like IGN so the rumour is very visable. The devs should have responded by now.

ehh because of Driveclub..?

What am I missing?

They don't just make such a commercial overnight, it has probably been months in the making. Their marketing plan is probably set in stone, so they are showing the commercial.

I don't blame them for showing it even though they know DriveClub is getting delayed.

Is the rumour even a day old yet? I don't think they will release an official statement on twitter.

They wouldn't need to officially deconfirm something.

If I went on twitter and directed a tweet saying "Is Dead Rising 3 delayed?" to some MS higher up or "Is Knack still making launch?" to someone at Sony, they would just be like "Everything's on track". Even moreso since this has gained traction, if it was completely baseless something would have shot it down.

The lack of that is telling here.

Was getting both Watchdogs and Driveclub at launch along with Black Flag and Killzone, so half my launch games delayed. I would think about cancelling until next year but I'm a massive Killzone fan, loved it since the PS2 game so I'll be keeping my order. Maybe move my NFS Rivals order from X1 to PS4 to fill the gap.

ehh because of Driveclub..?

No, because this whole thread made me think about it. I always order new tech just because I love it and want to have it at launch. When I was reading through this thread I realised that I would be buying one to only play Resogun, Driveclub and possibly Killzone.

Add this to the XONE stuff I am getting and I would be spending £1200 in 2 weeks on 2 consoles.

I was PUMPED for Watchdogs and now that's gone I can pick up the 3rd party on XONE and save a LOT of ££ until after xmas.

I think I am better off going XONE until Infamous drops and more titles are announced that I am going to play.

If this is about 60fps I rather have the game next month in 30fps and a patch next year making the game 60fps than missing out on the game for months.

Yes, because there's no need to cogitate about how to bring it to the public, a simple "no these are just rumours" can be said by anyone who knows what's up in an instant.

But telling your fans, that yes the launch (!) game has been delayed, that needs more time and has to prepared carefully. What about the PS+ game? Why do we have to delay the game? When can we realistically expect it? ...

You're missing the disclaimer that says 'Not all featured titles available at launch'. We just assumed they meant ESO...

Fuck! That does make my argument a lot weaker. So they showed just one launch game in a video associated with launch? :/

They don't just make such a commercial overnight, it has probably been months in the making. Their marketing plan is probably set in stone, so they are showing the commercial.

This I'm less inclined to accept. I'm not suggesting they made the commercial overnight. But to release it just a day before such rumors, especially when ESO isn't a launch game either, seems like a pointless exercise in trying to get people excited. Remember that they are trying to get the hype up for launch day, not for 24 or 48 hours.

Well, at this point, multiplatform games seem like they might be a bit better on PS4 anyways so that's not a bad choice.
